About The Dhaba
The embodiment of food in the spirit of the nation is an integral part of its identity. Our Dhaba is the embodiment of Punjabi food and Punjab – a state that has been the envy of the nation (India). In India and Pakistan, highways are dotted with local restaurants popularly known as ‘Dhabas’, providing local cuisine and serving as stops for truck drivers. Dhabas are traditionally characterized by casual seating on cots (called chaarpai in Hindi) and food prepared in clay ovens (tandoor). Over time Dhabas have come to define a culture, centered on food. Real Punjabi has been influenced by the diverse culinary cultures of Persia, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Punjab provided a conduit to caravans from Bukhara, Kabul & Kashmir. The wonderful frontier foods intertwined with the rich stream of Hindu, Sikh, Pathan, Muslim and Kashmiri migrants enriched the Punjabi cuisine.

The Dhaba Ratings and Reviews
I’m a lover of Indian Cuisine. The owner was very kind. It was busy and I was glad we had a reservation. The food was wonderful. The portion size seemed a little small for the price but with a couple of appetizers three of us ate from two entrees. You can choose your heat level 1-10. We did a lower level due to some of the party not able to handle heat. The Mango Lassi was fabulous but I wouldn’t recommend the Masla Chai.
We have searched high and low for great Indian food in Phoenix, and finally found it at the Dhaba. The menu is extensive, featuring Punjabi-style food. We had lamb Korma, chicken tikka Masala, and a spicy eggplant dish. All were absolutely fantastic. The place was crowded early on a Saturday night, so reservations are a must. We will definitely be back!
Very attentive staff and the owners are wonderful hosts. Seated exactly when our reservation was up even though place was filled and had a few people waiting. I can why as the food was the best I’ve had with perfect spice, crisp - chewy naan, sauces that just popped. Best Indian food I’ve had other than at a 6 Star in Bangalore. The Punjabi fusion and northern flair made all the dishes extra tasty. We did our usual Palak paneer and CTM with the curry shrimp but I already want to go back to try other dishes. With proper copper serving dishes this place is worth a little extra as the quality merits it. Nice people and amazing food.
The food was delicious, and out of the ordinary Indian food.
The service is very spotty, hostess a little stressed out contributing to a less than relaxed atmosphere!
You need a great deal of time reading the menu, as it is extensive to say the least.
The restaurant is in a shabby building, but since we weren’t there for the area it was a dinner then head out of the area.
I absolutely love how authentic the food here is. I drive all the way from the West side to the East side to eat here. When I go I order everything and eat to my hearts content. The wait staff are so friendly, accommodating and and quick to suggest food options for vegan and vegetarian dishes. When you ask for 10 in terms of heat you WILL get 10! My favorite dish is the fish pakora and the okra dish. Mmmm..... best food ever! If you have to skip the Nan because it’s flower based order the Papadum. It’s a thin, crisp, disc-shaped tort made with gram flour I think or it could be made from chickpea flour. I don’t recall.
The welcome by the owner is in traditional Indian style, which always adds to experience. We had traditional curry with shrimp and chicken and compare this to 30 years of worldwide Indinan food. Dhaba definitely ranks among the best, espacially for North America where most of the time not all authetic Indian spices are used. I also have to mention the tamarind sauce with the papadum, world class!! In short: if you want authentic Indian food: go to Dhaba!!
I have never been to an Indian restaurant and it was my boyfriend's birthday and he LOVES Indian food. So I'm looking on restaurant week places and I see this place and I hesitantly book it. Man I am so happy we went here. This place is phenomenal! The ambiance was amazing. The service was so attentive! The food was amazing! There was so much flavor in everything from the sauces to the naan! Everything was fresh! I couldn't even finish half! I would love to come back here again and try more of their food but the options they provided on the restaurant week menu was amazing, I can't imagine what else they have!
By far the best Authentic Indian food in Arizona. Be prepare for fresh ingredients and amazing 5star service. The place is small so at time when they are busy it is quite loud I've experience later in the evening it quiets down. Delicious and plenty to take home for left overs too.
FANTASTIC FOOD! GOOD VALUE. AUTHENTIC! Great customer service. The chef(s) really know what they are doing in the kitchen. Entree's are served piping hot at the right temperature. Thank you so much Chris, for your help in choosing my entree again, as this was my second visit. Your friendly and professional demeanor is very much appreciated. When my friends are in the mood for authentic Indian cuisine, I will definitely suggest this venue! For all new future visitors, no worries......you can adjust the spice level to your liking!
The food here is always fantastic. The chicken tikka masala and saag are our absolute favorites. The thalis are great and a lot of food if you want to try a little of everything. The service is hit or miss. We had to ask 3 times for our drinks and twice for our garlic naan. We just know that when we go there it's definitely for the food and don't stress about the rest.
Always fantastic and truly authentic food! I live in Uptown Phoenix and rarely drive to the East Valley. This is worth the drive. I took someone here for the first time, and they loved it. They had chicken curry and I order the Lamb Vindaloo on most visits, I love a good 8 or 9 level of spice. Rice pudding is a must for dessert.
We went for Restaurant Week. This is an quiet gem in Tempe. The food was amazing! The service was quick. An upscale Indian atmosphere made it perfect for a quiet and intimate date. I would recommend this to those who enjoy Indian food or those who are looking for a nice date spot!!
Had a casual dinner here with a friend. Food was excellent, service very good. We ordered 2 dishes and a biryani rice and had plenty of leftovers. Spice level 4/10 was perfect! It had been many years since we'd been here and we forgot how amazing the food is....hopefully we will be able to return again without such a long time between visits.
Delicious and authentic, this is a great place to go when you're craving Indian food. There may be some variability from night to night in terms of the spiciness scale (that is a "4" on a ten point scale may be mildly spicy one night and a bit more spicy the next time), but the food is delicious every time! Enjoy!!
the price was high for the value. the advertisement in Arizona Magazine gave the impression that the restaurant was more formal and high end, which it was not.
the numerous dining stickers on the front door were not appealing, nor helpful.
the dishes we had seemed to have too much ginger.
the wait staff was good and eager to please.
A must try! This is our favorite Indian restaurant in Arizona! The BEST food...especially the saag and chicken tikka masala! The service is good and friendly. They have an extensive menu that includes many vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. They get busy during evenings so reservations are recommended.
