The Devonport Hotel
This historic venue is the fourth outlet opened in the last 10 years by the local award winning restaurateurs behind The Bay Horse at Hurworth, Muse and Cena of Yarm.
Located between Darlington and Yarm overlooking the beautiful unspoilt countryside and banks of the River Tees, with good access to Teesside and Darlington is a fantastic base to explore the area.
The Devonport has dog a friendly bar with an open fire, beautifully furnished restaurant with availability for private dining and 8 luxurious bedrooms.
Really nice gastro pub, very attentive and lovely food
Our 'local' has improved immeasurably since the new owners took over. It is great for a drink in the cosy tap bar with open fire and also great to eat in the restaurant area. In the better weather the seated area adds another room to this hotel.
Very good apart from one meal, a curry which was cold and when taken back to reheat, came back still rather cold.
It’s always amazing here and they are so welcoming to us and our fur baby dog thank you
Sunday lunch was excellent, as was the service. Will be back again very soon.
Food quite good.
Nice that you can get Sunday lunches into the evening 😊
Whilst the overall experience was ok I was disappointed to find the fish and chips did not come with any other side ,it was an extra , £1.50 for a spoonful of peas , why do some restaurants now class what used to be expected as standard fair with a meal now an opportunity to , let’s say , significantly improve margins ?
Lovely place but food wasn't anything special. I probably would go again but wouldn't rush back.
Overall a nice lunch, slightly slow service waiting for starter, but food good
Food was delicious and the service from our waitress Chloe was just perfect. Her customer service skills made our evening. Polite but a good sense of humor that made us laugh. Will definitely dine there again
Great Sunday lunch on a wet and miserable day, highly recommended never disappoints
Friendly , fast and unobtrusive service.
We have dined there several times and the food is always delicious and beautifully presented.
There is only one thing I would say and that is to increase the vegetarian range a bit and maybe cater for gluten free otherwise I would give The Devonport 5 stars all the way
I feel there is still a problem with noise. Though it wasn't full it was still difficult for my guests to hear from one side of the table to the other. (We are not hard of hearing.). Perhaps some more soft furnishings to absorb noise would make the ambience much more comfortable. However, that said, we all enjoyed ourselves as usual and will return.
We have eaten at the Devonport a number of times and have always had good food and service. The menu has plenty of choice and the bar has a good selection of beers if you are not driving.
Food and service is always excellent. Staff very friendly and gave good recommendations.
Ambience so cosy and romantic , Manager was excellent couldn’t do enough for you, even gave us a free upgrade to our room which was beautiful! Thankyou so much for making our stay special. Ps. The Thai Fish curry was fantastic , definitely have that again !
The Devenport is a wonderful pub- friendly, stylish and good value. The food is really good; my only criticism is I would prefer more on the ‘specials’ board and less chips. Nevertheless, I had a great chicken cous cous dish when we visited a few days ago. Well worth a visit. An added bonus is that in the summer it’s got a great terrace at the front with a wonderful view over the green and river. And on colder days there are roaring fires inside
Quick lunch as a treat for my work colleagues birthday. His favourite meal fish and chips on offer as a standard portion for two £15. An absolute bargain. Staff lovely and welcoming. My partner wished to book a stay now the rooms have been refurbished.
Eaten here many times and it’s udually excellent, although on this occasion two of the party had partially cold meals. These had to be sent back to the kitchen to be re-done which meant others finished their meals.
Hoping this is a one off.
Food was lovely and service was great.
We were sat at the back of the restaurant near the door to kitchen. It was propped open and there was a very chilly wind blowing in. My husband and another lady from a different table kept having to get up and close it.
Outstanding service, lovely atmosphere. Thank you for the lovely desert following my engagement.
Lovely decoration and busy atmosphere, food ok but nothing exceptional. Service could have been better but we had a new waiter, were not asked if we wanted to order a drink while we waited to order
and drinks were delayed, had to keep requesting the water we had ordered.
I’m sorry to say that the food was not as I expected. Having visited muse and Cena I thought the food was overpriced and the dessert (pana cota) was tasteless. I did mention to the waitress and she said she would tell the chef but I’m inclined to think I was ignored. For £7.50 it was the most expensive pana cota I have had and not eaten.
As always, fantastic service, atmosphere and meal. Would highly recommend.
My daughter and I had a lovely evening at The Devonport food service and atmosphere very good.
Really enjoyed it.
Excellent service, lovely atmosphere
We ate at a table outside. You order at the bar and pay when you order. Apparently the policy is payment when one orders for outside tables. Not made clear on menus or anywhere else that I could see. Have customers been departing without payment? There were wasps around..it was hot!
We were all very happy with food choices. And a choice of dessert ...not on the menu...was easily produced and priced very fairly. Thank you.
Always have a great meal when we visit the Devonport. The lamb kofta starter is incredible, best koftas I’ve tasted. Fantastic Thai fish curry, which could have just been made a little better with some fresh sliced spring onion, fresh chilli & wedge of lime to garnish but that’s splitting hairs!
There was a delay with our starters but it was very busy in the restaurant so it was understandable. The staff were all polite and cheerful which can be hard to maintain when rushing around. We had a lovely celebration for my father's birthday and will return to The Devonport in the future
Lovely hotel set facing the River Tees. Excellent food and service.
This is the second time my wife and I have dined at the Devonport and have been impressed on both occasions. Service is very prompt and attentive and the food is excellent. Sunday lunch fayre is served plated up whereas many other establishments serve by way of carvery and self service so it's perhaps more a personal choice which you prefer. Portions are well provided for and it's unlikely you'll go away hungry. Value for money reflects the ambience of the place to a certain degree, thus for 3 courses and drinks you're looking at around the £55 to £65+/- mark for two which is fair and acceptable but perhaps not fully value for money. Would happily return for a special occasion again and would recommend the place too!
Food was lovely. Lots of choice. Good Ambience. Room was great. Comfortable bed. Luxury bathroom. Would go again
I have eaten here 5 times now I keep going back to give I aNother chance as it hasn’t been open that long, but I will not eat here again as nothing has got better since the first time I ate there. Disappointed ☹️
I had the fish curry and honestly there was 5 large florets of cauliflower 3 prawns and lots of rice in it
We were overwhelmed by the care and attention we received when I had a coughing experience a nd couldnt breath I thought it was my last but you saved the day
Service was excellent.
Starters and desserts were also excellent but two of the 5 mains were OK but not great. Fish pie didn’t have enough fish in it, too much mashed potato, and Gnocchi was very stodgy.
Overall though we had a great evening and we were very satisfied.
Great evening, as per usual. The Devonport is a great pub.
Food was very good. All four of us enjoyed the meals. Service was excellent. Staff very friendly and attentive. Hotel and restaurant decor looked new and there was a good outdoor area where you could eat if preferred. Location is right opposite the river Tees, where you can walk to burn some calories off.
Beautiful and tastefully refurbished hotel - service was very good and the food was well presented. Fish curry was packed with tasty chunks of fish and prawns would definately have again. Popular place with a good ambience - will return.
Beautiful meal for my birthday good was fabulous services was excellent.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Devonport. It has been refurbished to a high standard and there was a wide range of food and drink options available. The service was friendly and efficient. Our food was fresh, tasty and delicious - we can't wait to return!
Our first visit for a while absolutely love what they’ve done with the place we’ll definitely be making it one of our local haunts, great food, great service good value for the quality.
