About The Derby
The Derby is more than a restaurant. Established in 1922, it has been family owned and operated since 1951. It is a grand museum showcasing some of horse racing's greatest moments. Diners are invited to take a break from the rush of modern life and travel back to the time of George Woolf, Seabiscuit and relive the excitement of The Race of the Century. We excel in offering the best grades of meat and extremely fresh seafood prepared by our longtime executive chef that would delight even the most discriminating of taste. Some of the menu highlights include the Bacon Wrap Filet, Delmonico New York, Prime Rib and Shrimp Scampi. We offer a wide selection of wines by the bottle and by the glass. Relax and enjoy a fine cognac or single malt scotch on our patio, or take in a sporting event on one of our three new plasma screen television sets. Dining at The Derby can only be compared to the feeling of holding the winning ticket when you smile and know that you made the right bet.

The Derby Ratings and Reviews
I took my parents to lunch here. It was the first time for all of us and the atmosphere and food were over the top amazing. However, the icing on the cake was our server Bobby. He was so knowledgeable and was so much fun. He made our experience, which was already great, perfect and we will definitely make The Derby a regular spot. Thank you.
Your good “old fashion steak house.” The service staff have been there for years and they are very friendly...This place has plenty of horse racing history . We eat out a lot and this place is among the top of our list for steak, drinks and service...oh, you must try their deserts, the best bread pudding.
The Derby has gone from high-end to "catch as catch can". A few weeks ago, the service and meal for four was a 4.3. For this visit, early on a Saturday night (where you'd think they'd have their A-game on), there were many shortcomings, resulting in a mediocre meal experience. The restaurant's signature cheese bread was not offered and had to be requested. A wine list had to be requested. Wait staff did not refill wine glasses. Prime rib ordered medium was delivered well done and had to be returned to the kitchen. The representation was that it was held at the pass and kept warm because we took longer than average with soup/salad. Not buying it as the entrees were delivered before salads were finished; resulting in plateware being shuffled about on the table. A less than worthwhile experience.
We were celebrating my mother in laws 84th birthday. Everything was perfect. Our bacon wrapped filets were perfectly cooked. The cheese bread was brought out two slices at a time piping hot. The bacon wrapped dates are out of this world. And to top off the dinner is the customary baked Alaska table side. Our waiter, I think his name was Nick, was great, even pouring some of the fire into the shot glass as her birthday wish candle to blow out. She’s been many times for birthdays but that was a first for her. We had a great time.
We have been to The Derby many, many times. It seemed like it was under new management.
Something must have been going on.
Our experience was not pleasant. Service was terrible and our waiter seemed to be gone 10 minutes before checking on us during our meal. It took 15 minutes to get a refill on our wine. Questioning to ever go back and I used to love The Derby
Everything we had to eat was delicious and prepared perfectly.
My wife didn't care for her cocktail and they quickly replaced it with a glass of wine to her liking.
Too pricey for us to dine there frequently but we have been several times for special occasions and have enjoyed it each time.
A regular spot for a business lunch when I am in the area. Always terrific food. Good lunch specials. Great old school "vibe" with the leather booths. Professional service. Quiet atmosphere good for business lunches. And terrific history with the place too.
We celebrate our Anniversary here every year. We had a very friendly server . We had appetizers , cocktails and dinner and everything was great. The server brought us a special anniversary desert. We love it here, the food is always good and we enjoy the old school restaurant.
Almost perfect! Our party of 4 visited here on a Saturday in September. We dined very early due to a later commitment and our service was excellent. Nick is an exceptional waiter. Friendly, engaging and his timing is just right. He noticed right off that we brought a 10 yr. old Cab. and offered to decant it immediately. The only negative, and it is minor, is that my steak was overcooked. I ordered it medium based on his suggestion that the chefs erred on the side of underdone, but in this instance, the steak came out almost medium well. However, it was still tender and flavorful so I did not send it back. Everyone else's meat was done as ordered. Sides are delicious. We'll definitely be back.
