A truly classic old world steakhouse, sporting a traditional vibe with button tuck leather booths that beg for cocktails and seared steaks. The staff is top notch. Let's start with the hostesses as twice I've called recently for reservations and have been delighted to speak with someone with real telephone etiquette. Clear, polite, understandable, with excellent grammar is a rarity these days. Next is the service. One thing I loath in a fancy restaurant is what I refer to as "Food Auction", where the waiter gets the dishes from the serving tray and starts calling out who's got what dish and then the guests have to raise their hand when they hear what they ordered. This does NOT happen at the Derby. The dishes are stacked on the tray in order and our waitress elegantly and gracefully presented each guest with their correct dinner. Again, something of a rarity these days. As far as the meals are concerned, the dishes are exactly what they should be. Perfectly cooked with great quality. I recommend going very decadent and getting the potatoes Romanoff. So do yourself a favor and dress up with a nice suit or jacket or evening dress and enjoy some real fine dining and reminisce on how classy dining used to be. And do it soon before they tear it down for a "new and improved" version of the restaurant......lets' see how that goes.

I realize it was Thanksgiving and expected to wait even though we had made a reservation. The Derby is known for it's cheese bread, which took forever to get. Once we did get the bread tray there were only 2 halves (1 piece) for 3 people. Immediately we ask for me please, he brings, 2 more halves. Again, we ask for a but more, at least 1 full piece each, was uncomfortable. High end restaurant being stingy with cheese bread??? Meal was not great at all. Chef's must have been overwhelmed. Ordered surf and turf which is $125. King crab legs were TINY and tasted super fishy. Ribeye was something similar to what you at at the Sizzler. Again, it was a holiday and they were packed. I get it. But when you spend over $300 on dinner and drinks, you expect near perfection. Was not the norm for the Derby, we've been going for over 30 years and this has to be the worst. Mentioned it to the hostess, she was way too busy to care. ALMOST left half the mean and just walked out. All of the help was overwhelmed. We would never send food back, as you take a risk with upset kitchen staff and end up getting Lord knows what added to your plate. Table next to us sent their Steak back 2 x - So, not just us. Again, it was a holiday, but I expect more from this place as well as someone who actually was concerned about the sub par experience. New management? Not sure - been 2 years since we've been there as its always a special occasion venue for us. Last time were were there it was outstanding. Again, $300 (for 2) should give us a WOW experience. Totally underwhelming. Added note, bartenders were amazing!

Very good holiday option but we came at a reasonable time and they were out of both the ham and prime rib dinners. It’s a little unreasonable that two thirds of the dinners you’re offering just for the holiday aren’t available to order.

I have seen posts people recommended this steakhouse, and finally got a chance to give it a try. Went there with my family to celebrate Thanksgiving and birthday. Crab cake is so delicious, the ribeye also is one of the best steaks I got. Thank you to the server for being so attentive, and also for assisting us in getting baked Alaska for the birthday celebration since it is not on the menu.

Disappointed… reservation at 6pm… not seated till approximately 6:30pm… main course was served at 7:30pm.. waiting lobby and bar were crowded…eating area small, crowded, and noisy…steak was fatty, shrimp cocktail was rubbery, and garlic bread was soggy…. waiter forgot last beverage… only thing that was good was the baked potato and calamari…300 meal expectations were not met. Will not return……..

The kitchen was so busy preparing for Thanksgiving, that it impacted the timeliness, temperature and quality of the food that came out. We had four orders of derby delight, and one came out with insultingly small portions of meat, and two of the others were not to the appropriate temperature (not hot as usual). The waiter comped the steak and handled it with grace, but overall, it just wasn’t our typical experience at The Derby.

My experience at the Derby was far from good and it was extremely disappointing. My girlfriend’s family have been raving about this restaurant for a long time, they have been coming to the restaurant for many years now I have only heard nothing but positive experiences. So, this year me and my girlfriend decided to have our anniversary dinner at the Derby. We were celebrating our two-year anniversary at the restaurant on the evening of (yesterday) November 19th. We arrived a little before our reservation time. Our reservations were at 7:30 and we were seated within five minutes. Everything at first seemed to be normal, the business appeared to be extremely busy on the Sunday night but our orders were taken in a relatively reasonable time frame. Our starters arrived within 15-20 minutes, but our entrees took over an hour to arrive to the dinner table. We understood that the restaurant appeared to be extremely busy but the lack of compassion from our server when we mentioned the time to her was appalling. Our server Jacqueline claimed that cooking a derby burger well done requires more time than if it was served another way. Yeah, if you cooked a burger for over an hour it’ll come out burnt not well done. The lack of understanding displayed by our server convinced me that absolutely no one valued our time and money. My side of broccoli was undercooked, and the stems came out as if they were still raw. Me and my girlfriend wanted to mention something to the host/hostess desk, but it appeared to us that the staff was ignoring us. After waiting in the front of the restaurant to speak with someone for almost 10 minutes we decided to leave. I have never felt so disrespected by a restaurant in my entire life. We were seated a little before our reservation time at 7:30 pm and we were the LAST ONES to leave the restaurant in the section that we were seated at 9:30 pm. I ask you, when was the last time you spent a full two hours at a restaurant? Would not recommend!

A great place for dinner and drinks. My husband and I had a wonderful time. We had the fillet mignon wrapped in bacon, of course. The asparagus, broccoli, shrimp cocktail, lobster tail, calamari, and the cheesecake! Such a great time and delicious food!

Love ❤️ the Derby However, I have called six times I have come into the restaurant all to speak with your catering manager. I have left messages at the front desk on your voicemail and with your manager to no response (other than a call after the manager called her last night asking her to Return my call) all I’m asking is a party of 60 to 70. Let’s just round it off and say 65 for lunch. What options do we have for the COLDWELL Banker corporate Arcadia office for our HOLIDAY PARTY 🎉???? We are open to dates times but I just need someone to call me back or email our options!! 626 354-1306 Working with numerous banquet managers They customarily give you a price per head? A buffet price? A room price? I would think these are all set At this point I’m begging 🙏 please have someone provide what’s available and know we are flexible (lunch? Early dinner? ) I would really like to have our party at the Derby!!

Absolutely fabulous looking restaurant. The old time equestrian ambience make the otherwise mediocre food worthwhile. Just a beautiful place, so few planes like this have remained untouched. I hope it remains this way forever

All of our steaks were cooked wrong and then returned yet again wrong when they tried to correct it. Management didn’t come to address the manner till we almost finished dessert. Huge disappointment after having visited this restaurant over 15x.

We had a wonderful time at the Derby. We arrived early and had some great drinks at the bar. We were seated the the food was exceptionally delicious. This is our second time at the derby and both experiences were wonderful. We definitely will return.
