The restaurant was great as ever! Been a long time since we were last there and the food and service was the best! Food was delicious and the service was terrific and we had the best service as she was attentive and very gracious to our party. Would recommend to anyone who wants a great meal, perfect ambiance and terrific service.
We celebrated my sons birthday and enjoyed Wonderful Service. We had an Amazing Waiter named Nick who was extremely engaging and on point with our orders and his timing of anticipating our needs before we asked was Fire🔥!!! The Food was absolutely delicious, ambiance was sweet and delightful. The only minor-not so perfect situation occurred with our reservation, which was at 730 pm but we were not seated until 8 pm due to “Campers,” but that was out of their control. We were offered another table and were updated every 5 minutes about the status of our table.
This is the third time we have been to the Derby, and each time it has been phenomenal. The decor was seasonal for the holidays, going well with all of the equestrian items throughout the restaurant. The addition of plexi glass from the pandemic was actually a nice help for the noise at our table. Who knew.
The meal was exemplary as usual, but the service was beyond exceptional. She made us feel that we were the most important people in the restaurant, difficult with how busy it was. She deserves the highest rating possible.
Will continue to visit this awesome venue. It is over an hour and twenty minutes from our house, but every facet of the meal makes it worth every moment.
Derby’s is always our family go-to restaurant for prime ribs. But we had bad experience with service and food. The host in the front was very rude. We waited for 30 minutes before we get seated. One seated, it took us another 15 minutes before our waiter comes to greet us. Then almost an hour for food to arrive. The whole wait is over when we experienced out ribs are chewy and undercook (medium rare as recommended by restaurant). The meat has so much vein that is almost impossible to slice in pieces. The whole meal was super disappointing and put bad taste in our mouth. We don’t think we will go back anytime soon.
I was disappointed that the restaurant was still on a “limited” menu. I have always said their sea bass was the best I ever had. But instead I had a rib eye that was fantastic.
Our waiter who was busy was a bit rude when we had to ask for hot tea water 4 times. And he just snapped at us that everyone was asking for things and basically we had to wait our turn.
After having spent close to $500 I certainly did not appreciate the attitude
My wife and I have come here for our anniversary a couple times now. It’s one of her favorite restaurants. This last time though it kind of threw a wrench in our experience. The food was great, the ambience and vibe were great. Unfortunately our server was gone, not to be seen for long periods of time. We waited a good 20 mins to get a refill on our drinks. Once we ordered, she suggested the meal where we each get an appetizer, main course and dessert. We never got our desserts by the way. The server seemed to cater to the older tables around us. In the end, we decided not to let this ruin our night so we simply ordered a dessert to go and paid the bill even though we didn’t get everything we paid for and we didn’t want to argue. We ordered a large order of bread pudding, but when we got home; it was a small order. Like I said, food was great, our service this time around was flat out noticeably absent. We felt like 2nd class citizens. Sorry guys.
We were running late die to a previous engagement and was pleased that we were excellently accommodated.
Great place for a special occasion! We loved the delicious food and the Christmas decor!
The available heaters were not turn on when requested. Being that this was outdoor dining, it got colder thru the night. Service was slow, wait for the main course was 30 to 40 minutes. Not the usual prompt service.
I specifically went for what usually is the best martini, definitely not up to the usual standard. very weak and tasteless. Disappointed!
Service was great. Food was excellent. Some of the best prime rib I've ever had. Ambience was terrific.
Another great dining experience at a neighborhood gem. So great to be back as a regular after the trials of COVID-19.
The Derby was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Reception was freindly nd efficient. Service by Chelsea was excellent. We each had a Cobb salad (and garlic bread, of course)_ We would definitely return.
Excellent experience at The Derby for any occasion or non-occasion. Traditional, high-end table set-ups, well-trained professional staff, delicious food, and convenient location in San Gabriel Valley.
Everything was perfect. We arrived a little early, so we had to wait a bit. That was the only inconvenience. I really didn’t like that length of the waiting time.
The service was Great.
The food was Terrific.
The Baked Alaska was Heavenly.
Thank You. I absolutely Loved celebrating our 30 year anniversary there.
Top quality everything. But one of my favorites is the char hamburger sliders. The meat melts in your mouth. - delicious!
The Derby is an icon. Decades of tradition and a well deserved reputation for dining excellence. We celebrated our anniversary here and although we haven't been here in a couple years, it was everything we remembered. The food, cocktails and service were outstanding. It is exactly what a fine dining steakhouse should be, with a nice but relaxed atmosphere.
You know when you go to certain steakhouses, you arent interested in the price because they are so good. This unfortunately is not that place. At half price, it would have been a steal but the prices vs food quality here will keep me from coming back. The service and ambiance were great. The food was mediocre.
Food was delicious and the service was outstanding! Definitely coming again.
Unfortunately, this dinner wasn’t the best. We will chalk it to post pandemic staffing. Drinks were fantastic.
Beginning of a festive Christmas holiday. Our server could have been more attentive and pleasant. If certainly would have added to our happy holiday celebration.
The food was delicious as it has been during prior visits.
Out steaks were cooked perfectly, exactly as ordered. The flavor was excellent.
Everything was good. The only thing was the pumpkin pie was too sweet for my taste.
We were very impressed with the friendliness, courtesy and efficacy of your wait staff, especially on such a busy holiday evening. Our server kept us informed regarding menu updates and serving times. She was engaging, funny and helped make our evening merry!
Great restaurant. Great service on a very busy night. The only slight negative was our table location. We’re at the end of a tented area that was open. Even with heaters got a bit cold and smelled cigarette smoke several times. Great Thanksgiving dinner!
Thanksgiving very busy and had a 30-45min wait to be seated with a 7PM reservation, but great service from Robert M, and as always the food was delicious!
Did not have enough staff for all the diners that night so service was extremely slow. Took 30 min to take the order and almost an hour and 20min to be served our food order.
Not great a great place for Thanksgiving and very disappointed.
The back tent seating was beyond disappointing as it was cold and had no atmosphere…Akin to eating at the kids table with odd distant cousins .
Six of us unanimously agreed that our Thanksgiving dinner at the Derby was wonderful. Not the restaurant's fault that we all ate way too much.
First time at The Derby after living nearby for almost 3 decades. Went for Thanksgiving dinner. It exceeded expectations. The ambience was perfect: Red leather booth with holiday decorations and a roaring fireplace. Our waiter was infectiously exuberant and tended to our every request. The turkey dinner was ample and reasonably priced compared to other lesser venues. They made our Thanksgiving holiday memorable. We will be back!
The entire experience was INCREDIBLE. Our server Nick was JUST AMAZING!!! Thank you!!!
The lower rate for ambience and noise was because it was Thanksgiving and they added extra tables. The restaurant was PACKED.
Party of 5 on Thanksgiving. We all enjoyed our food and drinks and had a beautiful time. Our server was attentive, warm and easy going. The Derby is always a good time!
The Derby has always been our family favorite. It never disappoints
Wonderful place! Outstanding ambiance and the prime rib was perfect!
Sahara our waitress made our experience exceptional!
Overall, nice place. Steak was cooked perfectly. Shrimp was over cooked.
I was not impressed with the Derby as a Steakhouse at their current cost point. The Food was decent. I was expecting better. Service was hit or miss. For instance. We where quickly seated and bread and water was delivered to the table. We ordered and about 5 minutes later our appetizers where served. Seemed rushed. On the other end it was hard getting the wait staff attention to fix issue with our food.
The Steaks was mediocre at best. I do not know why I expected better quality but I can get this level of quality meat from Outback or any other chain.
For the quality of food, I would rather spend less $$$ and go to Outback across the street. I do not see myself returning anytime soon.
I do hear the cocktails are really good and I guess that could be a reason to go, but for the food, I would look for other options.
Martha our server is the best! She makes our dining experience most enjoyable.
Such a go to favorite always wonderful
Staff abd service top notch. Josh was great! Above and beyond. Food perfectly wonderful. Pricey.
I have been to the Derby countless times, but last night has to be the worst meal I have ever had there. The service was bad, my lamb was fatty, & they brought my entrée 2 minutes after they served the appetizer. I asked for a refill on my drink and didn’t receive it until I asked 3 more time. For the money you are spending there this should not happen. I suggest trying the Del Rey instead.
Hi Denny, I am very sorry to hear that your last visit was subpar. I would like to apologize for any delays in your service. When a manager came by your table last night, he was told that all of the food was perfect and the issue was service so I am disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your lamb. We discounted your bill as an apology for any delay in your service and I have followed up with your server as well to ensure that level of service does not happen again.
