The Del-Bar Ratings and Reviews
It was Valentine’s Day and my boyfriend and I had 730 dinner reservations. We got there a few minutes early and they said it’d be a 15 min wait or so. No problem - we said we’d grab a drink and be in the bar. We finished that drink and nothing...ordered another thinking we’d take them to our table. We finished that drink and now it’s 8:15 - 45 min after our reservation.
I go to the host stand and they didn’t acknowledge me for at least 2 minutes when I noticed a couple without a reservation walk in and ask for a table for two and they say right this way. That’s when I interjected and asked why we hadn’t received a table yet, but we had a reservation? They had forgotten about us. They said they’d get us a table right away (I would hope so) and I said I would be in the bar closing my tab.
The hostess then comes to the bar with our menus and says “I will need you to settle up here first.” It was said in a tone as if we were the ones who had made a mistake. I had just said I was doing that and was literally signing the credit card receipt. As if we weren’t going to pay our bar bill or something?
By this point we’re starving and it was an upsetting situation. Our server was nice and in a tough spot because we were obviously not pleased. She offered to give us a free appetizer, which is nice and all, but we didn’t really want that. Also, all of the employees were walking around staring at us like we did something wrong and were the problem table and it was uncomfortable.
This was our first date night in months and it just felt totally ruined by this. It was his first time dining here and my recommendation, so when it went this way, I was really disappointed. It definitely ruined our dinner and gave us a poor start to our Valentine’s Day. Food was average, server was good, experience was poor. We will not be returning unfortunately.
It was our first time to visit this restaurant. The waitress was fantastic! She did a great job making suggestions and service was top notch. The drinks were very good. The food was in my opinion a little pricey for what you get. However the quality was fantastic on everything but the sea bass. Over all we will go back we will just skip the sea bass.
We dine in Wisconsin Dells frequently, and the Del Bar is one of our favorites. The supper club experience is classic, and if Bonnie is your server, you will have a truly delightful experience. We always start with a cocktail (Brandy Old Fashioned, Cosmo) and cheese & crackers. The drinks are very good, and bar staff is attentive and friendly.
The steaks are my favorite, done Wisconsin Style. The clam chowder, hash-browns, and warm dinner rolls round out the dinner experience. Oh, and peanut butter pie with excellent coffee :)
We dine probably 6-8 times per year at the Del Bar. We look forward to our visits, and are never disappointed.
I took my wife to the Del-Bar for her birthday, last weekend and was so impressed from the moment we stepped into the place. The staff/ bartender and our server ALLmade her feel special. They were warm, fun and each GREAT at their jobs. We will definitely make a return trip to the Del-Bar. Food was amazing, ambiance fun and service was seriously the best I’ve had in a long long time. Thank you all for making the night special for us!
My husband is interested in visiting Supper Clubs. Wisconsin supper clubs are the best and the Del Bar did not disappoint. From service at the bar by Mary and her excellent Old fashions, to the table and the fish fry.... to the owner .... signing our Supper Club book, we were delighted and it was worth the drive from the Twin Cities.
This has been a favorite restaurant of our for years and it has always been great. We stopped for dinner Thursday, 2/8. We were very disappointed with our experience. The service was extremely slow. The worst part is that the staff allowed a table full of loud, obnoxious drunks disrupt the peace and quiet for all of us trying to enjoy our meal in the dining room. Not sure if we'll ever return.
What can you say? Absolutely delicious food in a cool setting with great wait staff. We started with cocktails and appetizers (stuffed mushrooms and cheese curds)--fantastic, both. Our table split on salads--some Wedge, some spinach--all delicious. Finally, entrees--most got steaks, one salmon--we could not rave enough. Yes, it's pricey, but not obscene expensive. There was not one thing we were "meh" about, right down to the bread. Everything exceeded expectations. Treat yourself and go to the Del Bar.
We have been patrons of the Del-Bar for a few years now, always going there during a winter business conference in the Dells. We go multiple times during our stay because there is nothing else like it anywhere. The interesting mid-century look of the place, the relaxing background music, the great bar to unwind in and of course, the food, keeps us coming back for more. We aren’t the only ones who feel this way as the place is always lively even during our off-season visits. Going to the Del-Bar is definitely a highlight of our trips to the Dells!
Our server seemed quite uninterested and I don't know if she had a problem with us personally, but our service sucked! She was quite attentive to others around us, but didn't feel the need, explain specials (which we learned of after we ordered from another waiter explaining them to adjacent table), refill water, collect the check or pick up plates from our table. Luckily there was a young woman who was wandering and bussing who came and cleaned the table, went to get water, and even collected the bill, after we sat there for about 15 minutes with it, and got it taken care.
Sat in the bar area because we enjoy ourselves more in that atmosphere. Server was amazing, asked our first names as we ordered and remembered them throughout our experience. Very happy with the traditional Supper Club fare. Just the evening we were looking for.
A great experience on New Years Eve with friends and family. There were 10 of us and the service was great and the food was delicious. Our servers Jerry and Renee were outstanding. The host did a wonderful job of getting us seated quickly on a very busy night. This is a great place we dine at when we are in the area.
Spent 15 years working in the Dells until the early 2000s and Jimmy's was the place to go to celebrate a special night out. As we were heading to Minneapolis I thought it would be great to stop off for a trip down memory lane for a50th birthday dinner. Sadly I wish I had kept driving. While my daughter's steak was good, that was about it. It was one of those nights where almost everything went wrong. Our server was either new or just awkward. She made the experience disjointed and not fun. The bread basket had two open packages of crackers... When we mentioned it to her..."oh that's weird" was all she said. My wife's shrimp were small and over done. My steak was fine but had a lot of gristle. And it was expensive on top of that. For my birthday (which they knew it was.)..i got a candle on a plate. Seriously... If you aren't bringing us a desert because you are too cheap to comp one... Don't point it out by melting a candle on a plate by itself. I really wanted this to be a great meal and celebration... Instead I will just have to remember the good old days.
We were on vacation and was told Del-Bar had the best steak. The cab driver told the truth.
The hostess promptly seated us at our appointment time. The cheese curds are fresh and also are the best you will put in your mouth.
The New York Strip is seasoned 14-21 days and is so juicy and tender. My wife had boneless ribeye and was very pleased. Both were cooked to our satisfaction.
I will not be back. Over priced for what you received. This is the Wisconsin Dells highly rated restaurant? Stop charging Chicago prices for food that isn’t very good.
My steak I ordered was dry as hell and the baked potato with cheese was just that. A baked potato with a slice of American cheese thrown on top with bacon.
In the middle of dinner we had to move our table over about four feet because they were expecting two larger groups at near by tables and it would have been cramped. So we moved our table over. I’ve never had to do that during a meal!
We finished our dinner and when we left, neither of the other tables around us were filled.
Eat some other place cheaper with better food.
