The Dark Room @ The Grandel
It was my first time here and I had a wonderful time! The music with Robert Nelson and James Jackson and the Randle brothers was great! I will return again soon!
Performance at theatre
Very nice venue. Jazz great but a bit too loud. Brunch good. Biscuits should be lite And fluffy. Not so much...
A very enjoyable experience for dinner before a show at the Fox. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our waiter was courteous and knowledgable about the dishes on the menu, including the specials. Our food was excellent, with reasonable pricing. And the place has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere - lots of people having a good time. One of my best restaurant experiences in the St Louis area
I loved the live music etc. the only part I was disappointed with... the impression is that it’s a “New Years Eve” party/celebration. The place was closed at 10pm.
The atmosphere is ideal for a relaxing evening drink or a special occasion. The cocktails are very well made and the music is always exceptional.
We had been to the Dark Room before it moved to the Grandel and it was absolutely fabulous! Imagine our disappointment when our dining experience was sub par. We came in to have a few appetizers before a New Years Eve wedding. Understandably, they had a prefix menu for the holiday that we were not counting on. That part is on us for not checking. However, the food we did end up ordering/having time to eat was mediocre at best. The crab in the appetizer was very fishy and not appetizing at all.
We really enjoy The Dark Room especially on Sundays for the “Brunchin’ With...”. The food is outstanding, we’ve been here several times for brunch and dinner and have never had a bad meal. Great music too!!
great jazz vary good food beautiful photo on the wall. drinks were ok. band started late but was worth the it
Great place to take friends for a Sunday brunch. Music was wonderful, food was flavorful, and staff was friendly and inviting.
I will definitely be back!
The live music was unbelievably great. Guest singer Cheri Evans hit it out of the ballpark singing. I want to buy her music. I can’t believe there was no cover charge. Get a reservation though. I had the Sammie and it was about a 2 out of 5. I would go back and try a different food choice.
Managment may want to enforce better crowd adhearance/to respect musicians between songs(quietness) when their speaking. I've been a Executive Chef 35 years, I was disappointed in the beef bowl on the menu. Beef was shredded piece of meet, no broth or sauce and rice was totally tasteless. I had to ask for salt & pepper to acquire any form of taste. 12 dollars for rail bourbon & coke at happy hour not appealing.Great menu but my diiner item needs help .
We dined here prior to an event at the Fox theater nearby. We were seated immediately and service was excellent. We tried the evening’s fish special: Teriyaki salmon over rice and fresh Julienned vegetables. It was delicious.
We wanted dinner before the symphony and since it was right across the street from Powell Hall we decided to give it a try. We happened to arrive during happy hour and so we explored a few different mixed drinks that tasted great and the food was very good. It was also super quite and not busy for most of our visit which was a bonus for us.
My first visit and it was great. The food was awesome. The service was not so good. There was only one waitress and she was really slow. We had to wait 20 or more minutes for drink orders. Other than that it was great. Prices were great and the food was great.
Had dinner before a show. We were very close to the stage and couldn’t hear to talk.
The dinner salad needed salt and pepper, there was none on the table.
My mahi-mahi was over cooked. The couscous was very good.
I booked a reservation for my fiance and I to celebrate his birthday. This was our first time coming to The Dark Room. The appetizer, main dishes, dessert, and drinks we ordered were amazing. The prices were reasonable for such an amazing experience. The live music was phenomenal as we were dancing the entire time the band was playing. We will be coming back again.
Group of 4 really enjoyed the room. It's very special to have dinner with live music in the background. Food was j7st 9k but music...SUper!!
I loved the live music, I kept forgetting to eat the food I ordered because I was so focused on the stage. I got to sit right in front of the stage so I was in the middle of it all. The food was fantastic and even something I’ve had other places, like artichoke and chicken dip, was delicious. I bought it to share but I kept it as my own. Our waitress was super nice and always checked in with us, without distracting from the group performing. It was the most fun I’ve had in awhile, and I will definitely come back!
Went their for Sunday brunch before Nutcracker Ballet at Fox Theater.
Food and drinks were good. Biscuits were excellent.
First set of silverware was dirty with dried food debris from poor washing.
The live music was laid back jazz and good quality, but far, far too loud. It made conversation very difficult.
Great place to go celebrate a birthday! The only problem is that they started charging $10 if you bring your own cake.
Our appetizer, and salads were delicious. We had the chicken artichoke dip with the ceasar salad. We had the flat iron steak and my wife and I were both woefully unimpressed. The steak was cooked fine, but the sauce atop of the dish was not tasty. The mashed potatoes were too thin and covered in a nauseating amount of butter (and I love butter). Unfortunately there was no live music being played, and no recorded music either. The restaurant has potential, it just isn't living up to that potential.
Great location! The perfect stop before or after a show at The Grandel, The Fox, or anywhere nearby. Cocktails are excellent!
Ptah Williams Trio was phenomenal!! Great ambiance.
The food was delicious. Next time I'd like to go back and hear some jazz.
Both the food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Enjoyed Tommy Halloran Trio. French Toast Soufflé was delicious.
Live music and really good food.
Outstanding service and music the staff was wonderful loved it thanks
Dinner before Saturday night Symphony. Steak and mushroom flat bread was great and beef and rice bowl was great. We missed Friday night happy hour with the jazz trio, which is an incredible deal, great food and great music. We love great before Symphony, Fox and Sheldon productions.
The Dark Room has a ways to go to become a go to restaurant which is a real shame given the shortage of restaurants at Grand Center. Food is uneven and service leaves much to be desired. Were it not so convenient, being in the Grandel lobby, it wouldn't have the business it does. Too bad. Grand Center will never be able to live up to its potential until it has enough quality restaurants.
Enjoyed a light snack and drinks before a show in Grand Center.
We went with another couple to dine before a Powell Hall event. At six-thirty, they were already out of four dishes on the menu. The waiter was well meaning but the kitchen was in chaos apparently. Our food took 45 minutes. One of us only received soup, and one of us received nothing before we had to leave. We weren't charged for anything, which was appropriate given our expectations. I would be very hesitant to return here. It seems the restaurant is in business to serve the theater/event crowd, but they fell far short.
Have been there two times in the past month or so and was impressed with the menu and the service before a show at Powell. However this past Tuesday was not a great experience. We were told the chef had been in a car accident and several items on the menu were not available due to ordering issues while he/she was out. The server did not come to our table for quite a while and we had to flag her down several times when we needed something. We have decided that the 3rd time was the last time, and we will go somewhere else next time we go to Powell.
Came at the beginning of the evening specifically for the chimichurri beef bowl. That, along with 2 other menu entrees, wasn’t available. Disappointed.
The entertainment without standing , service was great....overall good value date night.... I will be coming back
Waiter was excellent
Restaurant is very responsive to customers. Kudos on the service.
I was extremely impressed. The food was original and tasty. Consideration was made that I would not feel awkward being a single person. How considerate.
