The Dark Room @ The Grandel
Absolutely fantastic time. We arrived unfortunately arrived 15 minutes late after our 10pm reservation. They still kindy sat us in a front row seat. I could not ask for better service an drinks.
I look forward to coming back.
Great for dinner before symphony or Fox, etc.
Service was slow - waitress asked for our drink order, we asked for a few minutes before ordering and she did not come back for 20 to 30 minutes. Food delivery was a little slow but the food was tasty. You need to allow plenty of time if you are going to a show. Enjoyed the entertainment during dinner. Convenient to the Fox, Powell Hall and the Sheldon. Would probably go again.
Great music. So-so food.
The waitstaff and the bar staff and the hosts were all great. The cocktails were great. But the food was terrible and way overpriced. Really really bad tasting food.
The menu needs changing up I.e. introduce more food options to include both breakfast and lunch. I’ve been coming to the Dark Room once a month for the past year and I’m tired of the same menu choices.
Nice meal before the symphony concert!
What a great experience. Live music by Big Mike, great food, and no cover charge. Plus, plus and bonus.
Awesome band. Great ribeye! Nice atmosphere, would definitely come back.
Great food before the show. They were out of some items and some beer so I didn’t give better scores. Service was good. Table arrangements not so good. I was eating within a foot of strangers on both sides of me.
Amazing brunch with my BFF. POV is an extremely talented group of young people that serenaded us with exceptional renditions of some jazz, R&B, and blues favorites. The musicians’ precision and delivery was as enjoyable as any professional. I cant wait to revisit The Dark Room. The Brunch was so exquisite, I am sure the dinner will be equally as amazing.
Had brunch and listened to Janet Evra. The food was quite good. The scrambled eggs and the eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly. Great music. Our favorite brunch spot
I really enjoy the show and I loved your fries cauliflower !
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and delicious food! I also loved the music talent and the way it was broadcasted live. I definitely will be back!
I introduced my friend to The Dark Room. This was my first time for brunch. The food was fantastic and so was the live jazz. I enjoy trying new menu items and the beverages are always great. The staff are ever pleasant and one young man remembered me from my frequent visits for the Late Night Groove. I highly recommend for any occasion or just because.
This was my first time at the Dark Room, and I must say, I truly enjoyed myself and I cannot wait to come back! The Heal Center student Jazz Ensemble did a lovely job and it was such a nice surprise to see them at my first brunch here. I am excited to come back and bring more friends. :-)
We made reservations at The Dark Room for 6:30 PM. We were 5 minutes late due to non-working City of St. Louis parking systems outside. They honored our reservation and we were quickly seated. Service was friendly and my glass of wine was delicious! Only downside: we had placed our dinner order by 6:50 and our dinner didn't come out until 7:30. So, it took a long time to get actual food. We had to gulp dinner, pay, and run to The Fox. Maybe we should have made the reservations for earlier.
beautiful atmosphere lot of energy
i will return and look forward to next set. Michael Harris II was fantastic. It was a beautiful finally to my birthday
We loved the Dark Room, I have told a few friends about the good time we had! I will be returning very soon!
Love coming here for dinner, drinks, brunch. The music is ALWAYS so great! Love seeing local musicians.
Always a wonderful time😎Thanks the band was really good. Please get me some Martel cognac you been out of it since my first visit
The piano was so loud we couldn’t have a conversation. It was a difficult evening. Food was okay. Service good. But the banging, pounding piano was not dinner music. Never again.
I so love this place. It's simply elegant
Food great. Drinks reasonable and the live music is so relaxing.
This place is absolutely amazing!! The ambiance is everything.
Nice environment, greeters where nice. and the Jazz was fantastic
Ptah Williams, jazz pianist extraordinaire was outstanding, better than ever. Pretzel knots were good choice for a starter. Brisket dip and sandwiches and salads were good. And Peach cobbler (crisp) and Chocolate torte were great desserts. We'll be back.
The venue is great. Unfortunately the tango music was too loud for the venue
Happy hour with Ptah Williams, pianist that sounds great, such a range and such interpretations. The music energizes the staff and customers. Food and drink and service great. a great way to start the evening. Have reservations for next week.
Always a good time at The Dark Room. Good ambience, good drink, good jazz.
Love Brunch at the Dark Room. The music is great and not over amplified. Nice selection on the menu and the staff is very attentive.
Fathers Day Jazz Brunch with my Honey and friends!
Anita Jackson was amazing!! The ambiance is always great at this venue. I was a little disappointed at how long it took to receive our food as well as I had to send the coffee back due to it not being hot. Otherwise our server was warm & welcoming and our experience was great..
We had a good time. I am a big Anita Jackson fan. The frittata we had was the best I've ever had. Our waitress and the server were both very attentive. I want to try it in the evening, now.
Awesome experience! Music was great! Customer service was magnificent! Servers went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Food was good...Definitely, will visit again!
Good food, good service.
Just turn the volume down a notch or two.
Would dine there again.
We continue to go back to The Dark room for several reasons. It's close proximity to Powell is so nice, with parking convenient and a close walk to Powell and reasonably price food you just can't beat it. The food is good, I had the vegetarian dish which was very flavorless, other guests in our party had sandwiches which they commented were flavorful and nice portions. I think our waitress was new as she seemed a little flustered, but very nice and tried to be accommodating. The music, sorry but it is just too loud. If Dark Room wants to be a showcase for music/artists you should wait and have performers go on after 8pm. Dinner music is fine, but two of our three visits the music has been deafening.
This place was great! Food was spectacular, service was impeccable and the artist was quite talented. We were seated close to the stage so it was a bit hard to talk here and there due to the sound level, but it was great music :).
I highly recommend the leek dip and shrimp and grits
Odd. The man on the piano was talented and full of energy but it did not provide for a good atmosphere for a drink and conversation. There was no way we could have stayed for food. It was early so I guess that’s why the crowd was older and sparse but not what we hoped for. The staff seemed friendly and fun but I don’t know how they could keep it together. Nothing caught our eye on the menu anyway. We decided to get the check and head back across the street.
We had dinner before a show at the Fox. The atmosphere was nice, no one was performing so noise was not a problem. The service was good, the food was good but not special. It was a nice place to go before Fox or Powell Hall but I would not come back just for the food alone.
