Great ambiance and service! The downside was the fish on mahi-mahi tacos was really over cooked, but they agreed to make them again and they were acceptable.

A very nice lunch outing, as usual. One of my favorite restaurants nearby. Good place to take friends from out of town.

Went because of the photos but won't return. Went for dinner at 7:15pm on Saturday night 1/8/22. A group of 3 9parent and teenage son).
Pro's:
We were seated right away. Our server was friendly and prompt. Teenage son got the Hot Honey pizza and was kind enough to share - it was delicious.
Con's:
The tables were VERY close together. Hard to have a conversation not to mention those who may be concerned about Covid. The steak tacos were terrible. Undercooked and very chewy. We needed to cut up the strips into smaller pieces as we couldn't bite through them. The tacos were also very soggy. Not appetizing. Ordered the Chips & Guac as a starter. Very small portion of Guac.
Mid:
Ordered the Spicy Avocado Bowl - was fine.

We loved the charming photos online of the restaurant and thought we'd give it a try...unfortunately, we probably won't be back. There are so many dining options in Carytown that we will try something else...

So just to clarify not only was this NYE but we also were also celebrating a birthday.. I ended up making the reservation for 845 at that time not knowing that the Daily closed at nine so when I realized that information out the day of I called in and asked to push back my reservation to eight to accommodate their hours, plus I don’t want to run into any issues. Also at that point they had been made aware that we were celebrating a birthday in addition to NYE (even though the reservation was listed under birthday). We were seated quickly when arriving and we were also greeted by our waiter quickly too. The restaurant at the time was thinning down, and most people were either leaving or getting ready to.. we ended up ordering drinks and 3 appetizers..the drinks ended up coming out nearly right before the appetizers..so it took quite some time..which we were totally fine with at the time, because at the end of the day that’s just loss of money on your side..We then ordered our dinners which came out in a pretty nice time, however both steaks came out quite burnt on one side leaving a terrible taste in each bite, even though the inside was cooked correctly. Also another meals fries came out completely cold, which the fries were the only thing we brought up to the waiter..which he’s said he would make new ones…that never happened! When we asked later on in the night we were informed “the cook threw out the rest”… the most upsetting part of the night was when the waiter completely skipped over dessert and brought out the check..didn’t even ask if we wanted any..nothing was said to us about the birthday..it was honestly a shock..we were all ready to order desserts. At the end we spent over $200 amongst 4 people.. the number could of been much higher but the service was just not 100%

At lunch, we waited 20 minutes for service and over an hour for our food, each with unsatisfactory explanation. When it finally arrived, the tomato bisque was tepid and bland. I requested fresh ground pepper to give the soup some hint of distinction and they had none (!).
The chicken panini I ordered without arugula arrived loaded with the stuff. In addition, the chicken was overcooked, rendering the sandwich tough and dry. Moreover, the bread had clearly been grilled, not pressed, so it wasn't a true panini at all.
What's more, The Daily had no idea what they were doing when it came to wine service. I took a half-bottle of Meursault Premier Cru to share with my friend and and instead of uncorking and pouring it at table, they took the bottle away and and returned with the wine already poured.
Finally, through all of this, there appeared to be no manager on duty. And the harried, very polite hostess was clearly a novice. When I requested a set-up (30 minutes after we were seated, we were still without), she didn't know what I meant.
Honestly, The Daily deserves one star, not two. But because they recognized, at least at some level, how awful our experience had been, they comped my sandwich and provided us each with a dessert. Which was thoughtful. And those french fries, after all, were delicious...
But we won't be returning anytime soon.

Had lunch at The Daily yesterday on recommendation by friends/family. Four of us enjoyed: sitting outside, so many great options on the menu, bloody marys, fish tacos, steak tacos, crab cake, spicy avocado bowl. Our waitstaff, Mark, was very helpful and attentive despite the extremely busy lunch crowd - the line was out to the street. Very glad we made a reservation. Will definitely come back!

We begin by saying Nicole did an awesome job given the situation. We ordered 5 items that she had to return to the table bc they were Out of or unavailable. The items were a beer, panini, carrot cake, no martini or drink glasses (served in water glasses) and a salad without dressing. Burgers could not be well done bc they only serve them one way -medium. Even tho we had a reservation, the table was not ready and we had to ask for silverware. We took our friends from Florida there along with our goddaughter before going to an event. We were so embarrassed for the server and for choosing this place for our holiday celebration. We will not be back.

Over the years, The Daily in Carytown has been a staple in our Richmond restaurant outings, but I reluctantly have ti report that the service, ambiance and food quality have notably deteriorated. We were disappointed at this last visit and I’m not very inspired to come back for a long while. This is sad, as The Daily used to be a special treat for our family.

The server was genuinely helpful when we ordered our food, however, we did not get any water refills over the course of the entire meal (even though the hostess clearly noticed and even after we asked). I left the restaurant thirsty! As for our bar order of Pinot Grigio, we weren’t notified until midway through the meal that they were out. Strange!

Both bathrooms were unpleasant such that I decided to wait until I got home.

The presentation of the fish tacos was sloppy - my food was all over the plate in a pile. (what happened to the taco holders?!). The Buddha Bowl lacked flavor…the items were not seasoned and the hummus tasted store-bought.

Finally,
I certainly have compassion on hardworking servers and hosts (especially during Covid), but we felt like our presence was a burden to the overtired staff and left not feeling great about the overall experience and spending ~$150 for it.

We hadn't been to the Daily in several years and were disappointed to find that the food and service were both sub-par. My husband tried to order a burger medium-rare and was told they don't cook to order and all burgers are medium-well. A restaurant that doesn't cook burgers to order - not a good sign. Everything we received was mediocre at best (burger was tasteless, pizza wasn't great, side of brussels was fine, his Coke was watered down and gross).

My high school friends met there in Richmond from 3 different directions! It was just perfect! We weren’t rushed, we could visit. The Brussels sprouts were wonderful! My beet salad with chicken made me very happy! Our waiter was friendly and fun! I would go back there again from Va Beach!

I made reservations and our table was almost on top of the bar. Service was somewhat slow. I ordered a hamburger, no cheese, with mustard on the side. It came with cheese and no mustard. The burger was good, but rather small. I had to get up and ask the receptionist for some salt.

I love the daily and normally go to short pump location due to proximity from my home, but due to unusual circumstances, we dined at the carytown location. Appetizer portions at the carytown location were much smaller than I'm used to in short pump. Also, seems like the kitchen/bar may have been short staffed as drinks and food took a bit longer than expected.

The service was insufficient. The waiters didn’t check on us during the meal. She didn’t bring sugar for my tea and I had to wait until my tea was cold to see her around and ask her for sugar. Our table was unclean. I had to use my napkin and clean it because the waiters was not around to ask her. I requested a table change, they refused despite having empty table all the time I was there.

Server brought us water and then abandoned us for almost 25 minutes before finally taking our order even though he had returned to our area of the restaurant at least twice during that time period. meanwhile I went to the hostess stand twice to ask them to track him down and send him our way, but to no avail. After we ate when he brought the check we mentioned it to him and he asked why we hadn’t said something earlier so he could give us a discount on the meal. I told him about going to the hostess and he replied curtly that we should just keep our money. He dropped the cash we had handed him on the table and walked away. Very rude. Had a chicken panini which was very bland and uninteresting and tomato bisque which I didn’t care for, but that was just personal taste. Have been to The Daily many times before, always with much better service and food.

Great service, willing to accommodate diners. Good recommendations of good food. We had salads and carrot cake (it is a vegetable!) making for a lovely lunch. Love the decor, but the noise level can get loud, especially those metal chairs on tile floors. Been here many times and it's consistently good.
