About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Charming
Located in historic Blagden Alley in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood, The Dabney has been honoring the farmers, watermen, and purveyors of the Mid-Atlantic since 2015. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2025, our team remains deeply committed to showcasing the best of the region through thoughtful, seasonal cooking prepared over our signature wood-burning hearth.

Guests are welcome to join us in the dining room for our 5-course prix fixe menu, or enjoy an à la carte experience with a reservation in the dining room, at the bar, or on the patio.

The Dabney has been awarded one Michelin star every year since 2017. Chef Jeremiah Langhorne received the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic award in 2018, and The Dabney was named Washingtonian’s #1 restaurant in 2023.

Please note: We are currently unable to accommodate severe allium or dairy allergies, or vegan dietary restrictions.

We visited The Dabney for my husband’s birthday and wanted to do something special. The Dabney BEYOND exceeded any expectations. The service is absolutely amazing, from the time you are greeted by the hostess team up until you start on the different courses. Chef Jeremiah and his culinary team are absolutely incredible.

We sat adjacent to the kitchen which was a little noisy, but not too bad. However, there was a lot of heat coming from the open flame and warming lights, which definitely took away from the experience. Food was fine, but didn’t live up to my expectations or the price point, and some of the wine pairings were interesting, but not in a good way. Happy to have gone, but probably won’t go back

Perhaps our favorite restaurant in DC; no mean feat. We would always choose bar seating. Menu is delicious and interesting while still maintaining a constant point of view. We learn and experience something new about food each visit. The sausage was a highlight this time. Staff are pros without being precious. We arrive and become happier immediately and leave happier still.

This was our second visit to the Dabney and it was outstanding. The entire staff was welcoming, attentive, and professional. Sitting close to the kitchen and hearth felt very immersive. The food in each course was delicious and unique. Only tip I have for others is that parking is tricky so plan extra time to find parking or take metro/ride share.

We really loved our experience. We went for my husband‘s birthday, and it did not disappoint. However, I do want to point out that I called to see if we could come in earlier than our reservation, which was for 8 PM. We were told that we absolutely could do that and we could sit at the bar. When we arrived, it was challenging for them to accommodate our party of three. I do not understand why. It was much too hot to be outside. And there was room at the bar to either stand or pull up a third chair – there were two chairs empty at the bar. But it proved to be too difficult. I do want to note that I am vegan and the restaurant bent over backwards to accommodate me and I really appreciate it. But they should not tell diners to arrive early if they are completely flummoxed about how to seat them at the bar.

Really great restaurant, food, service and cocktails were fantastic. I like the locally sourced and regionally food and cocktails! A la cart areas should be more. The hot outside area should have more cooled air (maybe AC) it was awfully hot. The area around the bar is fine too but I think there should be more a la cart seating.
