About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Charming
Located in historic Blagden Alley in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood, The Dabney has been honoring the farmers, watermen, and purveyors of the Mid-Atlantic since 2015. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2025, our team remains deeply committed to showcasing the best of the region through thoughtful, seasonal cooking prepared over our signature wood-burning hearth.

Guests are welcome to join us in the dining room for our 5-course prix fixe menu, or enjoy an à la carte experience with a reservation in the dining room, at the bar, or on the patio.

The Dabney has been awarded one Michelin star every year since 2017. Chef Jeremiah Langhorne received the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic award in 2018, and The Dabney was named Washingtonian’s #1 restaurant in 2023.

Please note: We are currently unable to accommodate severe allium or dairy allergies, or vegan dietary restrictions.

Dig into his seasonal, Mid-Atlantic-leaning tasting menu with bold dishes like a mini apple cake and foie gras torchon that have earned the restaurant MICHELIN Star status.

For a restaurant that has diners commit to a tasting menu when making reservations, and they only offer so many of such reservations, it was unfortunate to wait 10 minutes to get offered water (which was unfortunate because we were given a welcome drink on the way to the table, and we really needed water to wash down that bitter taste!), and then not receive our first bite until after 45 minutes of sitting at the table. Then, the service continued to be slow or inconsistent. We commented about the texture of a dish (the grilled Channa) and the server said she would discuss with the chef and let us know more about it, but she never returned with information. The food overall was average, though there were a few highlights (the turnip, the grilled shrimp, the Crab, the vegetables and the pig ears, and the strawberry-rhubarb fool), but it became average due to the big misses (the fried sugar toads and the kohlrabi should not be on the menu; the Channa was rubbery, though the fava beans helped save the dish; the lamb is a miss because one of ours was delicious and the other was not cooked the same - really odd since they came out together yet tasted different; the custard may be good for someone that likes custard, but we specified at the beginning of the meal that one of us does not want the fried egg or the custard, and Nick confirmed that for us - kept the fried egg off the pig ears, but failed to hold the custard base to the rhubarb granita). As for the wine pairing, it was a waste - we were served a number of sips of wine, but nothing special. To spend $1000 on dinner, service and food should be more consistent and on-point.

Overpriced for what it is. Food is interesting but really not worth it.

The Dabney is our favourite restaurant in the entire DMV region. Twice enjoyed, 3 years apart, in different seasons, and both truly exceptional experiences.

Everything was excellent. Service was good, everything came timely. From the starter to the dessert, very delicious. The dessert was so good, the buttermilk biscuit was so tasty accompanied by the ice cream. Will definitely go back again.
