Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

This was our second visit to the Cut & Craft, York and once again we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great food and first class service from our server Plifford. We will certainly be back again. My only slight critiscism was the volume level of the ‘background’ music was too loud for me and made it difficult to converse with the family members on our table, as well as the server. Possibly due to my hearing but I would think I’m not the only one with hearing problems when there is a lot of ambient noise.

Drinks came within minutes of ordering yet food took half an hour despite restaurant being quiet when ordering. Asked for tap water and got given still and then charged just under £5 for the bottle. Service charge they added on 12% despite saying service charge was 10% on the receipt. Food portion very small and gin not brought in gin glasses

Thank you Chelsea for your feedback. We're so sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations. While tables have a set time frame, we always allow guests to stay longer when availability permits. The 12% service charge was a system error, and we’ve since corrected this, please accept our apologies. We're also sorry that still water was served and charged instead of tap, which was an oversight on our part. This is not the experience we aim to provide to our guests & we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to turn this experience around. The Cut & Craft
