   Fine cuisine but no wine culture, sadly. Both are essential elements in the perfect meal.

   As usual the food was delightful and the staff professional and friendly. We dine at the cross fairly regularly and would recommend the taster menu for first timers (not what we generally do) but a great way to get an overall flavour of the place.

   We had an excellent evening, from the first welcome to goodbyes. The duck egg starter was absolutely delicious with an amazing sauce. The wine that was suggested was good value and enjoyed by us all, working with duck, pork and fish. Again the sauce was fabulous with my duck. Puddings were spectacular amd tasted wonderful. The rhubarb tartlet was fabulous to look at , so delicate and tasted wonderful. That you , Team at The Cross. You never disappoint !,

   When booking we let the restaurant know we would be celebrating our wedding anniversary. Sure enough there was a welcoming card on our table when we arrived then chocolates after the meal. We had no difficulty choosing dishes we liked from the menus (one chose table d'hote and one a la carte). Food was excellent. For the table d'hote dessert the blue cheese portion seemed a little small but overall we both felt we'd enjoyed a delicious, substantial meal. Service from all the staff was prompt, friendly and efficient. We ate on a Thursday lunchtime. There was plenty of room in the car park and the noise level in the restaurant was acceptable.

   Set menu was repeated over recent months, so opted for a la cart which was excellent. Service was not very attentive and was presented with the wrong bill.

   We are seasoned campaigners when it comes to Michelin. 3 stars definitely doesn’t guarantee perfection and 1 star doesn’t mean being left feeling something is lacking. We had the 3 course lunch special and we thought the meal was nice, but there was no dish that I walked away thinking about, “nice” but not special. The service was great from both the Maitre D’ and our waitress, who was friendly and unfussy. I will say it was incredibly good value though. A 1 star lunch for £55 per head is unbeatable

    An absolutely lovely celebration lunch for our daughters 40th birthday. Food was superb, service was discreet, friendly and excellent, and the overall feeling was one of enjoyment
