   We visited Saturday 23rd December. We were very unfortunate on our visit. There were only 2 staff working. 3 members of staff had called in sick. The wonderful young lady and the manager were run ragged. They gave 110% they should be rewarded for how hard they worked. Not knocked . To the staff that didn't turn up . Think next time about the poor lady who is pregnant that had to run around all night.

   Slow to sit us at our table when we arrived. We had to call our waitress over to order our food . Service was slow. Our food was cold. They didn’t have the pudding & cheese board we asked for. Overall very poor

   I booked my table 24 hours before visiting the Crooked Chimney with my wife. On arriving I was told the staff had no knowledge of my booking even though I showed them the email confirmation I received from Open Table ensuring my reservation had gone through. The staff at the Crooked Chimney informed me they had no spare tables as they were fully booked. The manager said that although they had no tables in the main part of the restaurant they could sit us in a part of the pub not being used. As it was Saturday night, difficult to get in someone else and we were hungry we accepted but sitting in an empty room, with no other guests did not make for great ambience on what was suppose to be a special night. I’m not putting the Crooked Chimney down, the manager apologised for what happened and although it was a nuisance for staff to keep popping into the usually unoccupied part of the restaurant they did look after us well and the food was good. However, I do think Open Table need to work with establishments to ensure this doesn’t happen to others. Personally I would not have faith in using Open Table to book an evening out as our evening was ruined.

   For a Saturday night a day before Mother's day the Crooked Chimney was very quiet. The food was very nice but not exceptional. Service was OK but very slow especially as it was quiet, but maybe our waitress was new. BUT NEXT TIME I WILL CONTACT DIRECT FOR BOOKING - OpenTable WAS USELESS - WHEN WE ARRIVED AT RESTAURANT THERE WAS NO RECORD OF OUR BOOKING THROUGH OpenTable, lucky for us there were able to fit us in.

   Really poor - the food was below average and even then it was overpriced. Service slow. Ok as a pub though.

   I have been to the crooked chimney on many occasions but not for the last few years. I'm not sure if it has changed hands but based on the experience this time I wouldn't go again! It started by them not having our reservation, even though it was confirmed via OpenTable. However as it was quiet, this wasn't an issue and they found a table for us. The sadly it went downhill from here in terms of the food.... We chose 3 roast dinners and one child's pasta with garlic bread. The garlic bread was burnt. The 2 roast beef dinners - the beef was very tough and dry, like it had either been reheated or had been left under a warmer for a very long time. It was so dry you couldn't even cut some of it. All three roast dinners the vegetables were cold and the supposedly roast vegetables were soggy! All of this and we were one of the first diners in the restaurant given it was 1215. We had to leave by 1.30pm so didn't have the chance to reject them and them make again, given the food didn't arrive until 1pm anyway. I did tell the waitress when we left because they hadn't been over prior to this to check if everything was ok. I also heard someone else sending their food back as we were leaving for the same reasons and another couple left when they were told it would be a 90 minute wait for food. The restaurant was cold too, we ate in our coats. They had fireplaces but no fires lit and I dont think any heating on. It is a real shame because it is a lovely bar/restaurant and the food used to be lovely too.

   Food average, ambience average, service average. ...not at all memorable, don’t think I would return for food but may just for a drink at the bar

   My gammon , egg & chips. The chips were soggy and very fatty. The gammon was tough. My friend took at least half of it for her dog who was singularly unimpressed. My friend who had the prawn cocktail we all agreed had the best meal. The staff were friendly & helpful
