The Cowford Chophouse
Overpriced and the steak was way too fatty. A disappointment all in all.
We had excellent service and food. Was our first date night in a year and was worth the reservations before our concert date. A bit high on the price side of it all, but then again, was one of the best meals we ever had. You get what you pay for. We would go again even with the prices for a special occasion now I know what to expect.
Birthday was memorable
We shared the seafood tower, then split the special bone in ribeye with a side of au gratin potatoes.. it was delish.
Wonderful service and delicious food for a birthday dinner. This isn’t my first trip & won’t be my last.
Full dinner service and a great server. Awesome drinks and food. Steak was so yummy and cooked perfectly. Grouper was outstanding and flavorful. Thanks for the great birthday!
This was our first visit to the Cowford Chophouse. It's an upscale, high-end, beautifully decorated 3 story restaurant with roof-top bar that is good spot for special occasions and/or dates. The service was good, but once it started to get a little crowded our server was stretched over several tables. Took 10 minutes to get some salt & pepper to the table. Food was acceptable, but I wouldn't say exceptional. The $12 "side" baked potato was nothing special. The side mushrooms were tasty. The wedge salad was a good portion and worth the $12. The $55 rib-eye steak was just OK, definitely not worth the price. Nice touch is the complimentary dessert for your birthday. I'd go back, but would be more selective with what I order.
Great food, great exceptional service
We got to the restaurant early, hoping to get a drink beforehand at the bar upstairs, unfortunately it was closed due to a special event. So, we were going to stay and get a drink at the downstairs bar, but were told that it was full, so we had to go down the street to another place to kill time, but that wasn’t a big deal. We were told they could seat us early, so we could come back before our reservation and get seated. So, we did. We were seated in the downstairs bar area, which was loud and the sun was shining through the window so my husband couldn’t see for half of our dinner. We asked if we came back later at our actual reservation time, if we could get a better table, and they said probably not. Not exactly the ambiance I was expecting for a $250 dinner. The food was good, and the waiter was courteous and attentive. I think my main take away was that I guess I expected something like a Orsay atmosphere, but it was more of a Cheesecake Factory at a Ruth Chris price.
Fish special was a little on the dry side ..
Steak was amazing
The place is beautiful and the service was good. I had the salmon burger and it was ok. I thought it was a salmon filet, but it was more like a salmon cake with a bunch of filler. I asked the waitress what was in it and she had to check with the chef and then I got a vague answer. I will probably go back but I will ask more questions prior to ordering.
We have a very good service but the only thing I did not enjoy is my steak. Too much rosemary seasoning and the meat is not tender for the price I paid for. May be I ordered the wrong thing.
Outstanding as usual!
We love Cowford Chophouse for date nights!
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!
Special of the day was a salmon burger that the waiter recommended. it was more like leftover salmon re-purposed into a dry tasteless burger
Glad to see this level of quality and service in a local establishment. Excellent environment, food, and service.
Top Notch dining experience. From drinks at the rooftop bar prior to dining, to promptly being seated at our reservation time. The hospitality was amazing, everyone from the hostess to our server to the servers assistants were unbelievable. Now let me get to the best part. The food. I ordered the wagyu spinalis at the recommendation of our server. I have been to many upscale steak houses around the country and this was hands down the best steak I have had at a restaurant to date. It was pricey however for the service, food quality, and modern ambiance I’d say it was well worth it. Will be back again... VERY SOON. A1!
This was our first time dining at Cowford. Our reservation was at 6:00pm and we were sat along the west wall. My chair faced directly into the sun, needless to say it was blinding. Since the sun sets in this direction every day, I assume management does not care. The open booth seating is not one of my favorites. No privacy since our neighbors to the left and right felt like we were eating family style. That’s the negative, the good food and service, but for $100 per person you would expect good food and service. I don’t believe I will ever go back!
Great food and even better service!1
Perfect evening. I'm already planning our next meal there
Five star service, five dollar signs. Great place for steaks. The restaurant is noisy - conversation can be challenged if you have difficulty hearing in noisy environments. There is a rooftop bar. They serve the full menu up there, but the tables looked small.
Charlotte, our server was one of the BEST we’ve ever had anywhere. Pleasant, knowledgeable, timely, and appropriate conversation. Food was delicious; cooked to perfection.
Parking is handled by valet since there is no self parking due to the location. My first visit was less than spectacular. I was seated promptly on the second floor. Being a steak lover, I know my cuts and temps very well. I ordered a bone in ribeye prepared to medium well.., a Caesar salad and an Arnold Palmer. The steak came to the table cooked Over well..... I mean burnt to a crisp as of though my uncle Pete cooked it in the grill in our family’s back yard....the Caesar salad which was not a Caesar but rather a garden salad with vinegar on top was not appetizing at all. The service is the only thing that saved this meal. My server was very interested in my satisfaction and I would only return because of that.
Excellent. Will highly recommend.
Our evening started off with a drink at the bar on the first floor. Almost immediately we noticed the noise level was so loud we couldn’t hear each other speaking. People were rudely coming up to the bar and standing uncomfortably close and making body contact while trying to enjoy your beverage. The big issue with Cowford was the food. I gave 3 stars only because the wagyu steak was delicious. I ordered a bone in filet which I wanted medium rare. However, the waiter informed me that due to the bone it’s best to order it medium so I concurred. When my steak arrived, I cut into it looking for signs of a pink steak. The outer portions were well done and over cooked. I cut into the middle and still no sign of a medium to medium rare steak. The steak lacked flavor and was extremely dry. I sent the food back and was informed they no longer had any more cuts of the bone in filet. I was disappointed and at this time my girlfriend was nearly finished with her food which made me feel awkward just watching her eat. I ordered the porkchop which was actually really good. The sides ordered were potato’s au gratin and haricot verts. The sides lacked flavor and were dry. Seems to be a pattern. Soon after the manager came by with a $25 comp card which was nice. Even though the steak was way pricier I wasn’t expecting to get anything out of sending it back. I honestly wanted better food and a much better experience. I’ll be spending my money at Capital Grille from now on. They have a bone in filet that’s cooked just right, sides that taste well and service is impeccable.
This was a great dining experience! The food was very good. The service was excellent. They remembered our anniversary. The roof top bar needs some outdoor fans for the summer and maybe a mister too. But the bar atmosphere was fine.
The food was absolutely amazing. We had the best service I’ve had in a long time thanks to our amazing waiter! The whole evening was just a blast :)
The service was superb, the steak was juicy and cooked to our liking and the ambiance was nice. Great place for dinner date or working lunch/dinner since you can hear each other.
Three of us ordered the tuna appetizer, and it was too spicy to eat. And we all like spicy food. Our salads were.kind of bland. No salt and pepper on the table, so it was disappointing too. Also we had to ask for bread because they didnt bring us any. It wasn't too crowded, so I'm not sure why all this happened.
We were celebrating a major wedding anniversary with our son. We had a wonderful dinner and attended a show at the Florida Theatre afterwards. The hostess asked if we were going to the show and what time we would like to be finished with dinner. We were done in time for a leisurely, short walk to the FT. This restaurant is a great addition to downtown.
The restaurant is great, our server was beyond wonderful and the food was very high-quality. However it took over an hour for appetizer to even arrive which our server explained was due to a very large party on the second floor. I’m quite sure that large party had reservations in advance as I did and they should have staff the kitchen accordingly. Other than that everything was great but because of the length of time We waited we missed our After dinner plans.
Another fantastic meal at Cowford. Still wins over Ruth’s Chris, Capital Grille, and Morton’s for the best steak in town.
Overpriced, undercooked food. tables too close together. Good place for a business event, that’s about it. Overrated, if u want expensive food that actually taste good go to Ruth Chris
Daughter’s 30th birthday. Acknowledged with a sweet card but nothing else. A complimentary glass of champagne or dessert has always been provided by others.
Pretty great experience. Very clean bathrooms, excellent service, VERY good drinks (the old fashioned was amazing), steak was great as expected (maybe a tad overcooked), Mac n cheese was good, Ratatouille was good, cinnamon roll was just okay.
The Food and service is 5 star! The sides are very big and can easily feed three people.
Wonderful food, service and location. Our waiter very knowledgeable of the entrées. We will return for special occasions.
Our waiter was not attentive! Our food was not hot, which was surprising. We were not made to feel comfortable, our waiter seemed very standoffish. It was our 27th wedding anniversary. This part of the day sucked!
Beautiful dining rooms. Very spacious and comfortable. Dining chairs are the best we've encountered in Jacksonville. Bar is accommodating - got here around 4pm, so less traffic obviously translates. Our bartender was especially helpful and friendly. Though the double-story room can initially seem warehouse-like, the overall effect is stylish and cozy enough. With a few inevitable exceptions, guests view this destination as a dress-up opportunity and the effect is very civilized and refreshing in this flip-flop town.
Staff was confident, friendly and focused on customer service. Third time this summer and we've been impressed each time. All the beef and lamb dishes have been typical of the high-end steak houses, which means excellent across the board. Opted for the roasted seafood tower and server easily accommodated our special request. Everything was well prepared and tasty. Nothing to complain about and much to rave about: quality of meats and sides, professionalism of staff, comfort of dining tables and chairs, valet parking. An outstanding addition to downtown and probably the top destination on the northbank.
Great service. Food is always good. Finished off the evening with a drink at the rooftop bar.
