The Cottage Ratings and Reviews
Made reservation for birthday 3 months in advance. Turns out owners had sold the business after 23 years and were closing 2 nights later! Place was packed with friends and long time customers, food was wonderful. Glad we finally got there before they closed for good.
Truly fine dining in a quaint building. This iconic restaurant is closing under the present owners Nancy and Frank. We count ourselves among the many who are grateful to have enjoyed some memorable meals, especially their Valentines Day spectacular presentation on Tuesday.
The Cottage Place is predictably wonderful - every time! There were six of us and every single one of us was very pleased with our food and drink. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Even our high expectations were surpassed, as is always the case at this establishment!
Great menu, dinner options, food, presentation and service! It's such a quaint restaurant. The owner/chef Frank came over to meet us and thank us for coming. He really gets to know the customers and wants to make sure everyone has a great experience at his restaurant. We would definitely go back and would highly recommend this restaurant.
I took my wife to The Cottage Place as part of a little getaway from Phoenix that she badly needed. I used the partner offering from Flower Petal and had a nice flower arrangement delivered to the table before we arrived. It was a huge hit and she was the envy of the other ladies in the restaurant. Chef Frank Branham met us at the door, signed us in, and showed us to our table. This also made my wife feel special. Our server was a very nice, polite and professional young man and he did an excellent job. The food and drink was absolutely fantastic and Chef Branham stopped by our table to make sure. I bought a copy of his cookbook for my wife and Chef Branham signed it with a nice message to her.
I would highly recommend an experience like this to anyone whose spouse has had a bad week and needs mending. The Cottage Place was the therapy my wife needed. She continued to talk about how nice this was all weekend. Use The Cottage Place as a focal point to a romantic evening. You can't go wrong. I know I hit it out of the park!
I think I learned a new concept called a "chef-based restaurant". The chef's personal touch adds more than you might think. Also, the "cottage" type atmosphere adds something to the romance.
Cottage Place never disappoints! The tasting menu with wine-pairing is well worth the investment for a special occasion. The chef has won many awards but still takes the time to come to EVERY table during the night. He and his wife truly love to serve good food to discerning diners.
Our family really enjoys Frank and his attentive staff. We have been going to the Cottage Place since I found it while attending summer school at NAU - years ago - I am now retired. They do offer choices for children, and you are able to customize your meal for dietary needs. We were there for Christmas Eve when the snow was coming down at a very steady pace. Frank and Nancy shoveled regularly to make sure the sidewalk area was safe. Nancy even cleaned off our car windshield before we left. The restaurant is pricey but well-worth it for special times or a special treat.
We had the Chef's Tasting menu with his wine pairings for two. Absolutely epicurean in all respects; we had an outstanding meal. My only complaint would be the pairing with the Reisling didn't seem right. Otherwise, both the lamb with a delicate Maple demi-glaze (almost like BBQ but far better) and the Venison in a cherry molasses sauce were just perfectly prepared. Vegetables were great, the scallops appetizer was amazing in the combination of the lemon butter sauce and the tomato cucumber relish. The salad was also very good, with candied walnuts and some spiced pairs that just went perfectly with the duck confit. Garlic soup was also good, but not my personal favorite. All in all, one of the best meals we have had in quite a while, where every single menu item we tried was great, and a few were exceptional. Usually there is a part of a meal that isn't memorable or suffers a bit, but not this time. Wow!
And Laura did a great job making the Apple Flambe table side so that finished everything off well.
Consistently good food. I have been coming to The Cottage Place for over 20 years. Never in that time have I had less than a good meal. Many were outstanding. If you are planning to impress someone at dinner in Flagstaff, make your reservation here. For this particular meal, I ordered the December Tasting Menu. Deep Sea Scallop, Herbal Mushroom Velouté, Cranberry Sorbet, medium rare Cocoa Encrusted Venison, Pear Flambé for desert. This was an outstanding meal.
