The Cosener’s House occupies a picturesque Thames-side position in the grounds of the medieval Abbey of Abingdon, 8 miles from Oxford. It takes its name from the Cuisinier or Kitchener (the official responsible for providing food for the Abbey). The older part of the present building is the central portion which dates from the mid-eighteenth century.

The dining room boasts stunning views across the gardens of The Cosener's House. The bar and our restaurant with it's fireplace making the Cosener's House a cosy and warm place during the winter, while the gardens are a huge draw in warmer weather where al fresco dining is a must.

After reading their web site, also we were staying at the hotel, their web site offered set 2/3 coarse menus. This was not available. The only menus offered was the day menu. Which included various choices. A “special” was also available. Booked through”OpenTable” our table was available. Large dining room, no “ambiance”. 6 of us ate out the next night.!!

I booked a table for the 7th, but three days before our arrival at the coseners, we had a phone message to say that they would have to cancel our booking as they had a function there on the 7th!! Not impressed, but after phoning the hotel direct and looking at local pubs/restaurants I was able to book 'The Nags Head' for a table (which was lovely). Everything was ok in the end, but we were not impressed at the time!! I have under- rated the experience purely because we didn't actually dine there!

My family met here as a halfway point for where we lived for a birthday meal. We were able to book a table here on Easter Sunday for 8 of us. We had a window seat that overlooked their garden grounds and the Thames. We chose from the Easter Sunday menu that offered starters, mains, desserts and tea and coffee at the end. The food was lovely. Served hot, perfect portions and tasty! Waitresses were very accomodating and polite. They even held an Easter egg hunt in their garden grounds for the children.
