Great food, fantastic ambience!!
Great atmosphere, food, music service. Would highly recommend.
Service was almost nonexistant, slow when available. Food was ok but we have had many wonderful meals for about the same price.
This was my 4th or 5th visit. Still love the place however: It had to be 85 degrees inside. Everyone was sweating and they should NOT have been open given that. They're going to be closed for renovations soon so hopefully they will address the A/C. The entire place needs some cosmetic touch ups and I'd love to see that. I get they're going for the NOLA vibe but t's hard to pay those prices while sweating and looking at the run down decor. Food was excellent as always, service a little unattentive at the beginning, but improved while we were there. Still one of my favorites.
The food was great! The service was great; however, it was so hot in there that the sweat was rolling off us. The A/C was on, but was not working well. For the price of the dishes, there were not a very wide selection of wine.
Birthday and college entrance
The food is beyond amazing and everyone is very friendly. By far one of my most favorite places to go! :)
We enjoyed the Tasty Tuesday’s menu very much. Both of us had the tasty and refreshing watermelon salad, totally delicious blackened catfish, and finished up with a scrumptious beignet! I forgot to mention that we also shared the Viet-Cajun seafood tostada, another beautifully presented and very flavorful dish. Our whole meal was fabulous as was the service!
Enjoyed our experience at the cookhouse. I went with my mom and for the quality we received thought the price was actually awesome. The food was extraordinary and recieved excellent service. The homemade beignets are to die for!!! Will definitely return the next time we're in San Antonio.
This is our favorite test in San Antonio, especially on Friday nights. Great food, awesome jazz music makes for a great evening with friends and family!
Our experience was perfect. Food was amazing. Service was on point. Our evening couldn’t have been better. Staff made our evening extra special with some bubbly and dessert! Thank you Cookhouse, you guys are awesome as always!
Smart, thoughtful, and well executed food. One could not ask for a better experience but if one did The Cookhouse would still deliver.
We LOVE Cookhouse! Great food and atmosphere!
The menu is spectacular!
Wonderful food, authentic New Orleans atmosphere, and outstanding service. I highly recommend a visit to The Cookhouse —and the beignets and homemade vanilla ice cream! You WON’T be disappointed!
Wonderful place to spend an evening. We heard the Jim Cullen Jazz Band and sat right up front. Food was remarkable. Waiter was there when needed but didn't bug us. A required destination on my next trip to San Antonio.
Awesome delicious shrimp and oysters!
Everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere was a mix of quaint and upscale. The Boudin Balls were very tasty and the oysters were fresh and delicious. We had shrimp and catfish Po-boys which were very good as well and garnished with their tangy Cole slaw and sweet pickles. Overall a great experience that I would highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious!!!! The BBQ shrimp and chargrilled oysters were amazing. Our server Jake was friendly and helpful.
Can’t wait for our next visit
Food was delicious. Service was lacking in that our server seemed uninterested in serving us. He had zero excitement about the food he was selling. My wine glass became empty and he never returned to ask if I would like another. He knew very little about the deserts as well. Little things such as empty candles, lots of empty dishes left on our table and smoky atmosphere made the ambiance lacking.
The service was awesome. The food recommendations were good choices. The highlight dish was the BBQ shrimp. Great flavor and shrimp cooked perfectly. The French fries were fantastic too. Our least favorite was the red beans and rice - some beans were hard. The boudin balls were different than we expected as the rice mixture was tomato sauce based. All in all, the cuisine reminded us of being in NOLA. Can’t wait to dine again.
Waiter offended my wife with his dismissive & “hurry up” attitude. Still tipped him nearly 20%.
Always great food and service 🍷
Second visit here. New menu. Food was fantastic. Service was fantastic. Life is good!
The service and Food were excellent. A little Smokey, it’s an open kitchen. Left smelling like a beignet, LOL. Yummm!
The food is excellent and the place is nice but a bit too noisy. Service was pretty good.
Jake, our waiter, was extremely attentive. There’s a jazz band on Friday’s that completely added to the ambiance. The food was delicious!!
Loved the jazz music!!
Wonderful food and great service!! I have been to the cookhouse and I always have a great dining experience! The red beans and rice is awesome and the beignets are to die for!
Amazing as always! Chargrilled oysters, Boudin Balls, BBQ Shrimp, Beignets. All were amazing and flavorful. We always enjoy our dining experience at The Cookhouse.
Birthday celebration. Cook house never disappoints! Great food. Good people. Wonderful evening!
My first time and I loved everything. Wish it was a little quieter.
As always, this last visit to Cookhouse was a great experience. You can tell the owner puts a lot of love into this place to create a comfortable and authentic experience. The green salad and melon salad were both bursting with flavor, the chargrilled oysters are as good as any you will find in New Orleans. My BBQ shrimp was awesome, but that sauce seriously needed more bread to sop up all those flavors. The pork chop, while tasty, was a bit on the small side, so may need to take that into consideration if you’re really hungry. My only complaint is that while our server was friendly, there was someone who brought bread, someone else who refilled drinks, someone else who dropped off food and apps, etc. There was often miscommunication and at times it took too long to wait for refills, we waited forever on bread bc the person our server asked to bring it to us forget. I prefer an experience where the waiter is earning the tip and responsible for the whole meal, not just an order taker and check bringer.
Had the Grulled Oysters...watermelon/tomato/feta salad....shrimp creole....all fun and interesting dishes! my lady friend had the Bycatch fish dujour blackened amberjack ....the food was fabulous! Service was excellent and we were entertained by Jim Cullum and his Dixieland combo! Amazing evening!
Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent.
Great food. Small environment great for having amazing food and drinks with friends. Will def be returning.
This was our first experience at The Cookhouse and we are happy to recommend it to our friends. We visited on the occasion of our anniversary and were treated like royalty! The food, the staff and the experience just amazingly memorable. Thank you, Chef for making our visit so special!
All of the food was great - really enjoyed the charbroiled oysters and the octopus and raviolis
Came for Jim Cullen, who was simply excellent. Food was very good, especially the duck breast. Service was just ok.
Pieter is the best, most creative chef in San Antonio, maybe the world!
Having lived in East Texas, my husband and I have missed eating authentic Cajun food since moving to San Antonio. I was thrilled to find out about the Cookhouse, and surprised my husband for his birthday. It was a bit warm inside but the ambiance was nice. The menu was enticing. We eagerly ordered zucchini hushpuppies ( I believe ). They were very dark brown (i.e. burned) and so salty we literally could not swallow them. No worries..the gumbo was actually what we were ecstatic to try anyway! As soon as the bowls were placed on the table, the smell of bbq smoke filled the air.
There was no hint of traditional gumbo flavor to be found. My heart sank into my chest. What a horrible let down. My jambalaya entree was mediocre, however my husband's BBQ shrimp was delightful! The broth was absolutely delicious! Sadly, as much as we both enjoyed his entree, we will continue our search for authentic cajun food elsewhere.
