Saturday Global Brunch Coming soon!
The food was outstanding! Be willing to try new things and listen to your waiter/waitress' recommendations. Make sure you make a reservation.
Did not care for the food
Our waiter was strange. Overly friendly and assuming. Didn’t answer any of our questions directly. The food was not very unique or exciting in flavor even though it was made to appear that way on the menu. Very few vegetable options so the options for my group were limited.
Never disappoints. My favorite “go to” in midtown. The servers are superb, always knowledge and friendly. Chris does an excellent job!
Delicious food and outstanding service as always! Can't wait for the next country.
Food comes in small portions, highly recommend choosing 2 entrees and a small plate to snack on. Service was outstanding and the mix of music and conversation in the background was very pleasant.
The Consulate is a really great idea with amazing food and cocktails. That being said, they didn't have our table ready during our reservation, and our appetizer didn't show up until over an hour after sat down. Overall good but definitely disappointing.
Food was outstanding, drinks were unique and delicious.
I was celebrating my 21st wedding anniversary with my wife and wanted to go to an interesting place. The restaurant asked me if we were celebrating something to which I replied that we were celebrating our anniversary. Why ask if you’re not going to do anything for the guests? The idea of a rotating menu every 90 days sounded cool but my menu said “operation Morocco” and I didn’t see any Moroccan food on the menu. No terrines with varied vegetables, no legumes, among other roasted meats.
I ordered curried shrimp which came in a tortilla chip bowl atop lettuce leaves. It tasted nice but I think there were 5-6 shrimp in the bowl and that’s all there was to eat. It cost about $22. I had to order a side of white rice for $4 just so it felt like a meal and not a snack. My wife ordered lamb chops for $27. When her dish arrived, there were 4 microscopic lamb chops with enough meat for a single bite on each one= 4 bites of grilled lamb for $27.
While I think the food we ate was tasty, the lack of alignment to the Moroccan menu was strange and disappointing because I was looking forward to that type of food.
My overall opinion of this place is that the portions and the costs per dish were terribly mismatched. I ended up paying $200 for 2 martinis, one cocktail, one soda, a charcuterie plate which consisted of 3 slices of salami, 3 slices of capocolla and 3 other slices of meat including two small chunks of cheese and some crostini for $22, 5 fried small potato balls, a VERY small hamburger for my daughter with no side, my 5 shrimp dish and my wife’s 4 microscopic lamb chops. I’ve eaten at many high quality restaurants and felt better about spending that amount of money but at Consulate, my meal should have cost around $60-75 tops.
From the reviews, I was hoping to have a better experience but felt ripped off and all during what I was hoping to be a special night which wasn’t acknowledged.
Great atmosphere, great cocktails but very expensive wine & food options. Our bill was over $200 for 4 of us & I was hungry a few hours later.
My visit was during Moroccan meal plan and we loved the experience. This was like taking a taste bud tour of Morocco and the experience was very inexpensive. The flavor of Morocco was very interesting. Our waiter was Mr. Kat and he was awesome. Our reservation was for 3 people. We all ordered a different appetizer and a different main course. So we shared everything and we were able to experience more as a team.
We had a terrible experience at The Consulate - literally everything was wrong! They could not seat us for our 9:30 pm reservation, so they asked us to stand in the bar for half an hour. It was a 15 minute wait to get the bartender to even acknowledge us, and then he served us a glass of wine with a dead fly floating in it. At 10:00 pm hostess came to the bar and said our table was ready, and one of us would have to move to the table immediately while the other waited to pay the bar bill. (Really?!) When neither bartender would run my card after another five minutes, I simply left the card with the bill at the bar and joined my date in the dining room. The harried waiter who eventually came to take our order offered to retrieve our credit card from the bar when he brought our drink order to the table - never happened, despite two requests and reminders. Appetizer came out at the same time as the main course - drink we ordered at the table never came. The requested mustard to garnish the hamburger was presented to us after the entire meal had been eaten. The manager visited our table three times to ask "is everything perfect, gentlemen?" Each time we told him very politely that everything was far from perfect, that our credit card was lost at the bar, that we were still waiting for mustard to go with a now cold hamburger, that the wine we ordered when we sat down never came, etc. With each visit to our table, the manager promised to fix the problem, and then never did. Of course the bill included the wine that was never served. Once the bill was fixed and it was time to leave, we waited more than 10 minutes for a waiter to pick up and charge our credit card, but we could not ever get his attention. Eventually we simply put some cash on the table to cover the bill and left. We will not be back - what a nightmare! It is too bad - the place is beautifully decorated, and could be an impressive venue, but the service is beyond terrible. Stay away!
Great food, but the service was terrible. It literally took our waiter 40 minutes to get a drink after requesting it. Meals came out at different times and one never came out at all, so that person ate alone. Not a great experience unfortunately...
Excellent team and service. Red carpet treatment. Food and drinks are phenomenal. Thank you for always exceeding expectations Lin, Doug, Jackson, Z, Cherry (sp) and Mr. Katz!
We love this place. So much fun taking friends for their first visits. The decor is eclectic and fun and we love sitting in the bar talking with the mixologists and trying new drinks. Oh, and the food is good, too.
Horrible.. I can't speak to the food, we never got that far. Two bright spots, the ambiance was nice, dark, cool vibe. The hostess was friendly. It ends there. Our server brought us water and we never heard from him again despite the fact that he was caring for a table 18 inches from us. After 20 minutes of being ignored we left.
Worst experience to date.
The "visa" menu drew from Morocco on our recent visit and it didn't disappoint - from the salads and appetizers to the mains and drinks, everything was authentic and well prepared. Since our prior visits, favorites from various visa menus have been retained on the more expected "resident" menu - this is a nice addition which keeps diners interested in coming back even when the current visa cuisine may not appeal.
Went for a date on a Friday night. It was great fun and the decorations and staff allowed for plenty of conversation. Definitely will be going back. Total time there was about an hour and a half.
Wonderful experience. Highly recommend!!
Well, the gross incompetence was astounding. I’ve never had a worse dining experience. That beings said the decor was stunningly beautiful, so we had high hopes. We were there for hour and a half and we were served one drink... and that came about 45 minutes into the experience. side note it was Saturday night and we would have been an easy sale we had to finally cancel the last drink order because we were finished with dinner and practically beg for the check. We made the effort to go to the bar and ask what was going on... Poor girl had no idea (the order was never rung in). The manager never apologized and both he and the water tired to pin it on her. It was horrific. The manager has no business being in the service industry, after we asked him to bill it still took over ten minutes to get to us. And just so upper management is aware. This was between 8 -9:20 on Saturday Oct 13th, 2019.
This is one of my “go to” spots when I have friends, family or colleagues visiting from out of town. You feel like James Bond is gonna Walk in at any moment ....I also really enjoy going on my own ...no occasion, just to see what’s new. The menu travel around the world ...so this month they are in Morocco. Last month was China....so the features of the menu incorporate food from where ever they are traveling. There are also some Resident features on the menu that remain even after they move on to new locales.....the Diplomat Burger is a MUST try ...love the small plates so you can try a variety of items ...we enjoyed Moroccan Kefta Kabobs, maqooda (fried potatoes balls)with this awesome sauce , grilled lamb chops, from the resident menu ...pan fried shrimp dumplings and the burger....awesomely delicious ...and for dessert.....Moroccan market cigars - think baklava like texture not as sweet and no drippy syrup...they were quite tasty - just the right amount of sweet.
Give this place a try if you haven’t been....the team there are always gracious and kind....it’s worth the visit.
Fabulous as usual. Top rate food and service!
Nice ambiance! Pretty good drinks! Even saw an actor!
Unbelievably cool hidden gem... The setting is like something out of a James Bond film, the menu is creative and delicious, and you can tell the servers are proud and happy to work there and delight their guests. I’ve eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the world but this place is unique and fun and equally my favorite to all of those...
Food and atmosphere were very good. Unfortunately, the bartenders took over 30 minutes to make our drinks and then got them wrong. Ultimately our waiter took them off the bill. Disappointed.
Terrible experience from drinks , dinner, wine choices terrible.. had to choose 4 different wines in order to get one in stock.. then the one we chose had to be chilled.. food very disappointed
Fabulous! Great service and food. The concept is innovative and I can't wait to come back as the menu changes. Vibrant bar scene, cozy seating.
Excellent service and food. The owner Doug is a great conversationalist. 5 Stars ambiance. Will be back soon.
Unique concept, fun ambiance, amazing food! Perfect for date night, or a night out with friends!
This place was absolutely perfect! The staff are all very knowledgeable and accommodating and everything we ordered to eat and drink ended up being delicious. We will definitely come back for the rising menu items and some favorites!
Worst server ever. 20 min to order a drink then tells me there is congac in a french 75. Ah no! Tells us what we ordered was "interesting" he terribly criticized every dish.. Curry dish was appalling. And yet I already read about the red head terrible waiter. Shame. The other dishes were ok.
Since this was a recommendation from a chef, I was shocked. If we ever do make again, ...I'll risk the bar only.
Ambiance was great. Very cool vibe. Great music played. And we may just wait for the Moroccan menu to try again.
I expected the food to be outstanding. It was good though.
A special place, somewhat intimate, but music was a little loud for easy conversation. Excellent service and food.
The ambiance and food was perfect. Our waiter was awful. Can't remember his name but he had red hair. The service was incredie slow, and he even told us not to order things we WANTED to order. It was not a great experience.
This was our 3rd visit to the Consulate and it was our best yet. The delicacies of China menu is amazing and we also had some usual favorites. Great ambiance and wonderful service every time
Love. Best atmosphere in Atlanta, food is great, service is great, prices reasonable, no stupid tv with sports playing and not too loud where you can’t hear above other diners. Close to perfect. (Just needs to add a starter salad to your menu! )
Our party of seven was there for three hours, an hour longer than necessary. I had to get up from the table and go had hunt down our waiter for drink orders, to bring the check, and to collect the credit cards. I saw no reason for this like short staffed or overbooked tables. The food is really good but not worth the wait at all. And for my birthday celebration they didn't even offer a cookie with a candle in it. I would go back but only to sit at the bar and have a drink.
Food was great but service was awful.
Friends had been telling me to try The Consulate, I am so glad that I finally did!! It was INCREDIBLE!! I met a friend for cocktails and dinner. The drinks were outstanding. Our server had an affable and pleasant demeanor. She was very informative about the various menus and made excellent suggestions based on our respective eating preferences. The atmosphere is, well.......sexy. There is a subtle masculinity to the decor that is softened by some distinctly feminine elements. It's not a large space which gives it an intimacy that I often seek in some of my favorite haunts around the city. The Consulate just become a new fave!!
When visiting, I would suggest selecting items from both the Resident and the Visa menus for both food and cocktails. From the Resident menu, the Duck Confit is EVERYTHING!! I strongly encourage that item as a "must do" for anyone visiting The Consulate. We also enjoyed the Octopus alla Griglia and Brussel Sprouts. Everything else we ordered came from the Visa menu. For our visit, the stop was China. I aloved the Jellyfish salad!
Next visit, I will be trying a different cocktail and dessert. You cannot go wrong with a visit to The Consulate.
I like how they have 2 parts to the menu. 1 part is “residence”, they feature items always on the menu. 1 part is “visa” where they explore a different county’s cuisine every 90 days (then the “visa” expires). The chef is OUTSTANDING!!!
