Saturday Global Brunch Coming soon!
We were planning to celebrate a birthday and made reservations in advance. We were seated quickly, but initially a little disappointed that the staff did not have glasses of champagne at the table as requested.
The ambiance was electric, it was very clear they paid close attention to detail with the restaurant design.
Unfortunately, the service was terrible. I’m not sure if they were short staffed, or what... but it took 45 minutes to get a glass of wine, and and an hour for the first of four small plate to come out.
We ended up leaving dinner after two plates because we had been there an hour and a half and still hadn’t received a hot food item (the first plate actually came out cold, the second was charcuterie).
Maybe it was a bad night for them, but I was not impressed. This is the first time I’ve ever felt compelled to write a review, so please don’t assume this is sour grapes.
On a positive note, their craft cocktails are excellent.
The food was over salted. The replacement dish almost as bad as the first. Off night perhaps but we spent a lot and were hugely disappointed.
We did enjoy the the vegetable dumplings and the octopus.
Extremely slow and inattentive service. New Chinese chicken dish was overcooked and flavorless. Drinks and shrimp dish were good.
We’ve been to the Consulate on many occasions. Many wines not available as well as a couple of entrees.
Amazing food. We had the shrimp dumplings, octopus, bbq pork, and duck confit. For drinks we had the casino royale and the odd jobs punch. Service was good. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.
Waiter was a little haughty. He was reluctant to make recommendations unless he planned the whole meal for us. Seat upholstery was torn and duck taped back together.
Nice location and a casual walk to and from most Midtown hotels. I like that the dining room is on the smaller side and the decor is quite eclectic. Christopher was quite energetic as our server and provided good service and a nice experience overall. I’m usually not a fan of tapas style dining but did enjoy tasting many of the menu offerings. You can order entree portions if you like but on this visit, we stuck with tapas. Def recommend giving The Consulate a try.
Great experience! Let our waiter choose the menu and he was spot on with a variety of globe trotting delicacies. Food and ambiance was amazing. Will definitely be back when the rotating menu changes. A little hard to find from the street, but worth the search.
everything was great! Amazing drinks, great food and good service! love the concept of the whole space.
Thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and the cuisine. Host made me feel very comfortable and was very informative of the menu.
Two things I noticed that are of issue to me:
-the music didn’t go with the theme of the menu. Minuscule, yes, however, necessary
-they waiter didn’t acknowledge my anniversary. Idk if it’s a opentable thing, but I would have greatly appreciated some form of acknowledgement.
The consulate has a James Bond vibe.
I'm always happy to dine in the lovely Consulate. The service is generally not the best but the space is beautiful. I think I like the space as much as the food.
The food was amazing and the service mirrored that same experience
We visited during the Indian menu. The concept is great, service & drinks were fast. Overall satisfied. The only reason this isn't a 5-star relates to the menu. The menu descriptions were slightly lacking. In an attempt to make the description nifty, key information was left out. For example, Item 1 was called "Morsels" instead of saying "Fried", and Item 2 saying "Patties" instead of saying "Also fried". As a result, we ordered two nearly identical items & far too much fried foods for us. Secondly, perhaps in the quest to be different, some basics were left out. For example, the yellow chicken curry does not come with rice. Can you imagine a chicken curry Indian dish coming with no rice? We will visit again but will ask a lot more questions about the dishes.
What a wonderful restaurant! Amazing food, atmosphere and spectacular service. Easily just moved to my favorite spot in Atlanta and will definitely be back again! Kudos and thank you!
Outstanding food, super interesting and eclectic environment. Free and easy parking. We had a wonderful dining experience and can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend.
Our second time at The Consulate was just as impressive as the first. This has to be one of my favorite places in all of metro Atlanta. I plan to come back every quarter to experience they're new worldly menus!
Attempts at Indian and Ethiopian are commendable but fall short of the standards elsewhere in the city at restaurants dedicated to these cuisines. No beer on tap and beer selection is mediocre and disappointing. Ambience is excellent and allows comfort and conversation.
Really enjoyed the experience of the international menu, this month with an Indian flavor.
Had a dinner reservation for Saturday night with a group of 4 friends. Took an hour to get our cocktails. When we asked the waiter he said “a big group came in we weren’t expecting” so I guess that group was more important than mine. Food was good but the overall vibe was super pretentious. I wouldn’t go back
Delicious food and cocktails. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and was great at making suggestions. We were there for the India menu and the prawns were to die for. The owner came around and chatted with folks which is always a welcomed gesture. When he heard we were celebrating our anniversary, he sent over complimentary cocktails which were much appreciated. Thanks for a wonderful anniversary celebration.
Very good change of pace restaurant in my opinion. Live the quarterly menu change
Our waitress (Alayliah) was very knowledgeable
My new favorite place. A little pricey on the wine but the ambiance and food make up for it.
One of my fav spots in Atlanta. Love the concept and decor. Awesome staff, food and drinks
The concept of this restaurant is great but I think it has recently taken a nose dive. It took 35 minutes to get drinks. We had to ask several times and were told that craft cocktails take time. However there were 3 bartenders and they were standing around talking. The food was Indian theme this month and everything was too spicy to eat. I love Indian food but it was just not on par with others like Tabla. The standard non-Indian fare like Cuban egg rolls and the duck were great as usual but the theme stuff was not. I will not go back until they change out in another couple of months the theme. Very disappointed all the way around.
I have been in love with the concept behind The Consulate since I first heard about it, and I still think it's very intriguing and can make for a great time, however I think it's unfortunate that I ended up trying this place during their India theme. As someone of Indian decent, I'm always very critical of Indian food regardless of who makes it. This is no exception, the food served for their India night was generally pretty bland and not anything close to authentic. I was very disappointed with this, but all things considered, I wouldn't expect much as they are just giving a taste of a country, for me however, that taste just wasn't good enough, especially since I can get way better small plates of authentic Indian food for less than half of what I paid here. That being said, the themed cocktails were AMAZING, the service while certainly slow wasn't bad by any measure, and the overall atmosphere had a great vibe to it. I will definitely be back as I still love their concept, albeit during a different theme.
We were asked to move tables shortly after being seated- an annoyance and a harbinger of things to come. Service was generally slow and disinterested. Cocktails (Deconstructed Pimm's Cup) were tasty, but took 25 minutes to arrive, long after we'd received and finished appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, both patties and samosas from Indian "visa" menu looked and tasted like they came straight from Trader Joes. Overall, a disappointing meal. The decor and location are great; need to step up the service and food.
This meal was amazing. The staff is fantastic. Check out the artwork while you’re there because the collection is also out of this world. I highly recommend the Lamb Tibs as well. Excited to try the next country. I may come back into town just for that!
The decor is fabulous. The service wasn’t the greatest but they were having some computer issues so kinda gave them a break. The food was good. No complaints other than the slowness of getting served drinks.
Just as amazing as the last time we went. The Indian food this time around was delicious, but the Indian cocktails are definitely what stole the show! We can't wait to come back and try the next country!
Great eclectic spot!
Awesome food...amazing customer service! The ambiance was amazing. Fast service! Excellent food. Waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu items!
This place was amazing and exceeded our expectations! We will be back! The service was great. Everyone we interacted with knew the menu inside out and could make great recommendations for food and drinks (which is important as the food options lean toward authentic cuisine). Great atmosphere for social gatherings including date nights, small group dinners, night on the town, and special occasions. This is one of our new faves!
The evening began well. Our waiter Chris was knowledgeable about the menu and very gracious. However, the end of the meal spiraled. There were some highlights and lowpoints to the dinner.
Great atmosphere and decor. Chris introduced himself right away once I arrived and waited for the rest of the party to arrive. He made a great drink recommendation which I loved. I'm vegan and Chris made certain to make a note of that and inform the chef who veganized my meal which I greatly appreciated. Chris was also mindful of the time as we were attending a concert that evening and made sure to allow enough time for us to be on time.
There was an incident with how the cost of the appetizers were allocated amongst our party. The appetizers were not shared by everyone. One person in our party arrived after the appetizers were eaten but were charged nonetheless. One person in the party objected and Chris' response was argumentative, unprofessional and unfortunate.
The Aloo Tikki Patties were underwhelming and I wanted to send them back for something else but was told that they don't allow it. The Brussel Sprouts were awful. They were not seasoned and I had to ask for salt and pepper to make them edible.
I live two blocks away and will return for drinks. The jury is still out on the food. Perhaps when the menu changes for the next global experience, I'll give it a try.
My 5th time here. I will continue to return. Great food, ambience, service and experience.
Great place wonderful service I’m going to make it my cheers bar
I really love The Consulate and I typically eat at the bar, but this was a business meal so we reserved a table. The duck appetizer was amazing but everything else was fair and seemed like it sat awhile before being brought to the table. I ordered the sheepshead fish and it was overcooked and served lukewarm. It was very very salty and too heavy on the garlic which overpowered a delightful warm water fish. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed at this last visit.
Was here with the Colombian menu and had to come back. I love the idea of a rotating menu because I love trying new things. Will be coming back.
The country they were serving was India. The food and drinks were unique. Cool experience, would go back to try another country.
