Superb food beautifully presented by a highly accomplished and attentive staff---as one would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. The poached lobster was a bit undercooked, I thought--but the mélange of delicate flavors compensated. (The espresso cream reduction was deliciously unique.) The prices, I thought, were quite competitive for high-end restaurants in general. And the mark-up on the wines is not NEARLY as high as it is at other venues. HIGHLIGHT: I ordered a bottle of Tavel cote du rhone rose, which was listed on the menu as a 2017 vintage. The bottle our waiter presented was ---- a 2011. Wow. A nice surprise, and a great buy.

We shared 2 of the 3 course prefix menus with wine pairings. The food was absolutely delicious and the wines were wonderful. It was a really amazing deal for the price. Service was great as well. It is a beautiful cozy place and they even gave me a shawl to wear since it was chilly by the window. I will definitely return.

We came to Middleburg to celebrate my husbands birthday and to have a weekend away for the first time in a few years. We decided to pull out all the stops and treat ourselves to a nice meal. We had heard great reviews of Goodstone and made a reservation. We were early to our reservation, greeted very kindly and taken to our table. The location is beautiful and got there around sunset so it was very nice. Our experience started to go south when we got our water. We asked how the water attendant was and she said “I am not your server” and walked off. We decided to focus on what menu we would do as we had been saving our appetites all day. We had been to a few fine dining experiences in the past so knew to be patient and have some questions for the server as they generally introduce the restaurant and themselves. Our server came and asked us what we were going to drink and since we were waiting to hear more about the experience said we hadn’t gotten there because we were wanting to chose the food. She walked off. Shortly after the sommelier came and answered a few of our questions about the menu and determined he’d come back after our server took our order. 10-15 minutes later our server came back but took the order of the table next to us and didn’t even check in on us. Both of our water glasses were empty and at this point had been there for 20-25 minutes with very little idea of what this experience was, who to talk with, and nothing to enjoy while we wait. We decided to leave the restaurant because we didn’t want to invest more time and money in a poor experience.

A beautiful evening drive down an old country road, lined by hand stacked rock walls. A beautiful sunset for an early dinner. Quaint hotel bar with horse details. The conservatory was very open with few tables. Although seated in the corner, it was quite and private with good service; the sommelier pitched in to deliver courses. We had the Chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings, and a capacitor for dessert. Excellent food and the wine pairings were 3 oz pours (some a little generous) but were able to enjoy and the pace was good to keep up. Overall a bit over $500.

The dining room is spacious and quiet. The food was well prepared and presented. However, the service while polite was absent and inattentive. I had to go into the kitchen to find a waiter to bring the wine that I had ordered while my main course sat on the table cooling off. Another time I had to ask a bus boy to find the waiter. Since there was only one other party other than mine in the dining room, there is no excuse for this.

I visited here for dinner last Friday night as my girlfriend and I were staying at the Salamander for the weekend and it was such a perfect dining experience. The ambiance is so charming from your arrival until you are seated, where you can enjoy the fireplace while looking up under the stars. The food was exceptional and we both did the tasting menus (veg & standard) plus the wine pairing. The service was absolutely phenomenal as our server Beth took extra great care of us and the knowledge and joie de vivre from the sommelier was one of a kind. I highly recommend dining here if you are wanting a romantic evening or a five-star gastronomic experience.

My boyfriend and I had the 6 course tasting menu. We arrived just after 6:30 and one of the first tables to be seated. Goodstone takes slow eating to an extreme. We were one of the last tables to leave at 10:30 pm. Courses were 30 minutes apart, and I think this was on purpose and not because the kitchen was too busy. All the other tables seemed to gotten the fixed price meal and were in and out. After a while, I was tired and a little bored (not a statement against my boyfriend but it’s a long time just to be sitting there). The waiter even noticed and apologized. Perhaps if it was a large group of people, this would have been acceptable timing. But for 2 people, 4 hours was extreme and I wish I had known before selecting the tasting menu. Other than the timing, the meal was lovely. The wine list was extensive and I found the perfect wine for the evening. (At $110 a bottle, I tried to make it last through the evening, which was difficult at 4 hours). The beet salad was a nice start. My favorite was the sunchoke soup and slow poached lobster. The flavors were amazing. The pheasant was good, but a little dry. Loved the croquette that accompanied the meal, wish there was more than one. The P’tit Basque cheese course was delicious. The apple cake for dessert was a little difficult to cut with a fork, and they had taken the knives away. (So it wasn’t melt in your mouth moist but good). I loved the little extra chocolates they gave at the end. It was delicious! So was the oyster at the beginning. I struggled with the rating as the whole timing made the evening drag on and the food seemed underwhelming towards the end. Perhaps a warning that the tasting menu would take so long would have changed our minds.

The Goodstone Inn is in a lovely spot, but the food was merely ok for the price point. The service was good, but again not what would be expected at the level to which the restaurant aspires. I am a well travelled foodie and have no problem paying for expensive meals, the Conservatory at Goodstone Inn is simply not worth the price.

It took us 2 hours to receive our main dish. The service was slow and we were never given a reason why. Mandy guests dining at the same time as us were very frustrated with the length of time it was taking between each course. The food was good, it didn’t wow me enough for the price tag though. The ambience was great and we love the location. We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and they did add a little special “Happy Anniversary” chocolate to our dessert which was a sweet touch. Overall, I wouldn’t return and spend that kind of money for dinner. I prefer The Red Fox Inn.

We arrived early and ordered drinks at the bar, which were put in shatterproof glasses so we could walk the picturesque grounds before dinner. Our first dining experience at the Inn. It is located in a beautiful setting of manicured gardens in the horse country of Virginia. Definitely off the beaten path though not too far from Middleburg. We walked the grounds prior to dinner, which were stunning and were treated to a lovely sunset though not visible from the restaurant. Dinner service was good and at a nice pace. We did not wait long between courses. We enjoyed all courses and thought they were delicious but not overly memorable. The ambiance is great and for that reason, we will return.

I have been to the Goodstone restaurant multiple times prior to this time, it was one of our favorites but this was our first time as since it changed it venue So we chose the Chef menu with wine pairings to try. The food was good but the wine pairing was off... the server was outstanding, she was really nice, but overall, the very small menu was not what I would say is the best choice for this restaurant. The way it use to serve dinners before it became the conservatory was WAY better, the food was better and the wine choices were better. The ambiance of the sunroom was nice, but odd...the architect was spot on but the designer was definitely off... and why would you put plants out in plastic containers that are too close to the food and tables? bugs in the window sills, dead and alive, and spiderwebs...but honestly, way over priced for the value...change back to the way it was I think would be the best way to do business and keep the restaurant full. Fixed menus are nice for a change, but it was definitely overpriced when you have so many farm to fork really good restaurants in the area to choose from.
