I NEVER write reviews but this experience was off the charts. So enjoyable, such a surprise. The service was impeccable and the food was simply amazing. The restaurant was beautiful and we are so excited about staying at Inn soon. Thank you Goodstone for making our evening spectacular.
Fantastic restaurant!! A little off the beaten path of Middleburg restaurants but being in a beautiful location really helps... On arriving the we were immediately seated and our server introduced the menu to us. My wife and I both did the Prix Fix menu and loved the selection. Each course was better than the last which included extra courses the chef was trying out. The wine list is extensive and the sommelier, Stephen, helped us choose a perfect wine to pair with our dinner and our own personal tastes.
The restaurant itself was open and a delightful way to spend a night with good conversation happening all around us. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they personalized it with a bit of chocolate to pair with our dessert. Highly recommend this restaurant and we'll be back. Much thanks, Goodstone!!
Nice Weekend outing
Every thing was great. I would love to return. The food and service was amazing.
Excellent service; great ambience; magnificent food and friendly, professional staff!
Every detail is thought through, definitely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We did the chef’s tasting. Each course was better than the one before. The service is beyond superb. The wine pairings were well thought out and really brought out the flavors of the food.
The chef’s menu and pairings were perfect in taste and presentation. Thank you!
Fine dining at it’s best without being pretentious. Chef has some serious skills. Our table sampled the vegetarian prix fixe and were blown away by the quality and presentation of every single dish. The conservatory is a gorgeous room but could use the eye of a good interior designer to refresh the carpet, curate some art and up the flowers game. But any staging plays second fiddle to the gorgeous food. Worth every penny and then some. You cannot eat like this at many places outside the city. This is a true gem.
The atmosphere in the Conservatory is so special, by itself it almost ensures an enjoyable experience. The dark clouds and torrential rains during our most recent dinner added a special jolt of excitement which, together with the always outstanding service, tasty food and wonderful wines, made for a memorable evening.
Fantastic Wine List and very good food. The Conservatory space is beautiful.
Tasting menu was perfect—not too heavy, with an interesting mix of dishes and preparations. The scallop/yuzu dish and chilled pea soup made for a flavorful and light start, followed by quail and lamb dishes that were just the right size and seasoned perfectly, small cheese course and dessert to finish. The wine list was outstanding, with some interesting Burgundy selections that pair perfectly with the cuisine.
Our second visit, first since the Conservatory opened. Wonderful atmosphere, super friendly service, and incredible food, just a truly lovely evening out. Can't wait to go back!
The food was absolutely amazing!! The do tasting menus, which are on the expensive side, but completely worth it! The service was wonderful and they can cater to people with food allergies. It’s definitely a bit pricey for an everyday meal, but well worth it for a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself!
The atmosphere, service and wine selection were excellent, however the food was lacking.
An amuse bouche of a small fingerling potato topped with a light cream (creme fraiche?) and caviar could have used more flavor, maybe a few crystals of sea salt on the potato or lemon zest, as even with the small amount of caviar the potato was dull
The base for the asparagus soup was very bland and lacking any flavor. The few slices of white asparagus and fresh peas were the highlight of the soup with their true flavors coming through.
The main course of beef tenderloin with morels and a butternut squash puree was very good however as the beef was extremely tender and the puree gave a wonderful counter to sauce for the the beef.
I am still confused by the what the kitchen was trying to accomplish with the chocolate choice for dessert. The mousse and accompanying 'cake' it went on were very good however that was also accompanied by a quenelle of very sour mango? ice cream and several accenting drops of a orange reduction sauce that was really too bitter to eat. All in all the dessert didn't fit together well at all.
Based upon the prices I think eating at the bar would be the better choice here.
We LOVE Stephen and are always glad to see him. The meals are always wonderful, the atmosphere lovely, and the prices quite reasonable for the quality of service and food.
Wow, what a place, food was exact and perfectly tasteful, service was impeccable...will never forget my birthday there!
This was our second time at the restaurant celebrating our anniversary. We were very disappointed with the entree portion of the menu. The medallions of beef were unacceptably small for the price. The presentations were very nice but I expected more. The chocolate moose dessert was a complete disappointment. We had no such criticisms regarding our first dinner 5 years ago and have recommended the restaurant to many of our friends. Last note- our server was exceptional.
A very limited menu coupled with an extremely expensive wine selection. However the beef tenderloin did not disappoint us and made it worth the trip
This was the fourth time we have visited the Goodstone and in the past we have been very happy. This year the service was very slow even with a half full dining room. The menu has been changed to a limited number items. I hope that they fix the issues.
We love this place. Every noteworthy day we like to celebrate at The Goodstone
The beautiful setting enhanced the already delicious food. The beef tenderloin melted in your mouth. Wait staff was attentive without hovering. Overall it was a grand dining experience.
Food was great. Service was incredibly slow. Took 2.5 hours for 2 people with a prefixed menu.
Great evening and service.
This was our second visit to the Conservatory at Goodstone. The food is absolutely spectacular and the service is top notch. We got the chef tasting menu, with a wine pairing and everything we ate and drank was wonderful. We loved the creativity of the food and the perfect pairing of wines.
Great food, service, and ambiance. The prefix menu was perfectly apportioned, the wine pairings were excellent, and the staff and dining room atmosphere made us feel right at home.
Awesome dining experience - - ambiance, service, food and wine. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu. Each course was a work of art.
Absolutely worth driving west for a meal at the Conservatory. Six of us had a lovely, long prix fixe w/ wine pairings menu. Food was creative and interesting -- 4 of us are foodies. (No foams. That's ok.) Staff/service was flawless. Chef stopped by for a moment. Somellier was knowledgeable, creative and accessible. The ONLY reason I didn't give a 5th star is that I have to place the restaurant in context to some of the hyper-science operations we have visited. ... If you are reading this, you already know that dinner is in a very large, three-story greenhouse, with a lovely view of Virginia's piedmont. They start you upstairs with a drink in the living-room-like entry. Great contrast -- old parlor v. modern glass house. This trip was to introduce our British friends to western VA. Everyone was impressed. We will be back with every set of visitors.
Beautiful property, food sub par. Bread so dense, they should not bake their own, inedible. Food very average, nothing special or to write home about.
The butter lettuce leaves were coarse and the ribs of the leaves should have been removed, the taste was bitter and the pieces of goat cheese scarce.
The cod was acceptable but the whole dish was cold and the leeks tasteless.
My husband and I were very disappointed by our dining experience and the cost of the meal too high!!
We might go back to try the Bistro but a big let down for what I wanted to be a special mother’s day dinner.
The ambiance is great, the service is impeccable, the wine pairing is delicious and flows like water, and the vegetarian and non-vegetarian Chef’s Tasting dinner is a culinary adventure of fresh flavors. The sunchoke veloute, risotto, lamb and squab were delicious (in that order). A few of the dishes left us a little wanting, but overall a magical experience.
The food is amazing especially the French Onion Soup and the Icelandic Cod but the people are what make Goodstone memorable!
We discovered this place by accident, and we were stunned by the quality of the food and the service. An absolute must if you love fine dining in a more casual atmosphere. The wine recommendations were spectacular, and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. The squab was out of this world. Can't wait to go again.
Staff is very attentive. When food is served, the server does a quick description of the dish. Loved the extras, such as the amuse bouche and dessert bites after dinner. This has become our favorite restaurant.
I had a wonderful dinner. The best filet mignon I have had. Pamela had the lamb and thought it was the best. What impressed me the most, however, was the servers. All such nice and professional women. This was my first time in the Conservatory. A beautiful setting. I look forward to going back.
This was our first visit back since they established the new expanded Conservatory room. The new room made a great experience even better by providing more space between the tables. We ordered off the Prix Fixe menu with recommended wine pairings for the starter and main courses. Between these two courses, a small plate the chef offered and the dessert we had a wonderful and diverse menu, with each component nicely complimenting the overall meal. Excellent service from the moment we stepped through the front door. The drive out from the NOVA area was about an hour but well-worth it as the final few miles is a beautiful and winding drive that sets the mood for an excellent meal.
Here for our anniversary lunch while kids were occupied and got stuck in a hot corner of a narrow balcony with very little view. Good and wine were fantastic and service excellent.
The setting for the Goodstone Inn is the charm of this elegant countryside restaurant. They then deliver on this bucolic charm with excellent and attentive service, and great food and wine. A great place to celebrate a special occassion, meet some friends, or have a relaxing cocktail.
My boyfriend brought me for my 40th birthday! Amazing restaurant! Very clean! The chef tasting with the wine pairing was awesome! They even worked around my food allergy!
The staff made the evening. Friendly, efficient, professional... intuitive. And I was surprised by all the options on the menu at an establishment like this. Generally I'm not expecting much of a choice, but there were many items to select from. The wine pairings were on point - and beyond.
Beautiful setting and delightful menu and wine list. Very special place.
