The Compound Restaurant
Chef Kiffin's menus focus on the exclusive changes in seasons such as hearty braised dishes in the fall and winter using apples, pears and cider from local harvests, osso bucco and porcini risotto while in spring and summer feature fresh local vegetables and naturally raised organic lamb and delectable strawberries.

For the money and the reputation, this was no where near one of the "better" restaurants in Santa Fe. Food was fine, nothing special.
Superb. Excellence in all matters, and the food was divine! Foie gras was large and tender as butter, with sweetbreads and a mushroom sauce that complimented but did not overpower. Duck breast, medium rare, perfection! Christina Bustamonte, sommelier, was most helpful. This place is nothing but first class. It was not my first time and will not be my last.
Traveled to Santa Fe and was looking for a place with history but wanted to be spoiled. The Compound was the place and if you have the chance to have Alejandro as your waiter your in for a great night!
The food and the service was simply outstanding. The bartender got things off to a great start, the manager came by to greet us, and we were seated immediately. Everything we tasted was fabulous.
The Compound is a fine dining experience. Everything from the entrance off Canyon Road to the dessert at the end is beautiful. The wait staff is very attentive and kind. The food is delicious. We were both pleased with our meals. The dessert and hot tea was a perfect ending. We look forward to eating at the Compound whenever we are in Santa Fe!
We were stuck in the very, very back in the corner. Would have liked to be in the front room. Husband's food was good, mine not so much. The drinks were great and server was very nice.
always great but getting better. our server, I think name is Will, was fantastic and knew his wine.
Best food ever! Love the amazing staff, and the experience is always amazing!
Excellent food, fabulous service and great atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.
I’m not sure what was going on at the restaurant but we have this impression that they were very busy and we were not a priority. Several servers came to our table, so we weren’t sure who was our primary server and we had to keep repeating information about orders that were placed with the previous person. The food was wonderful .... but the service leaves a great deal to be desired!!
the compound never disappoints.
the Bundino dessert for restaurant week was exceptional as was my Cosmopolitan Cocktail. bartender made a perfect one.
beautiful evening with friends.
We went to have lunch here. Fantastic!!!! Husband had the smoked salmon and I had the clam pasta. The fresh pasta was amazing. I highly recommend it.
They food is still beautifully served when split plates are requested. Service is always exceptional
Best continental restaurant in Santa Fe! Yum! We have never had a bad meal here!
Absolutely charming and every aspect perfect!
Absolutely lovely experience! The Compound's Restaurant Week menu choices were wonderful, and both my husband and I has excellent meals, trying six different dishes between us. I started with a very light shredded brussels sprouts and hazelnut salad dressed with a whisper of lemon dressing, while my hubby loved his polenta and mushrooms much-hardier appetizer. He continued with the shrimp and grits, enjoying every bite. My choice of chicken schnitzel was a surprise -- it was so toothsome, and I believe the best version I have ever enjoyed! (May I also mention that a large portion of it went home with us and was a lovely lunch the next day.)
Dessert was also excellent, and my choice of meringue with a berry sorbet and lemon curd was a wonderful topper after a heavier entree. I don't recall what my husband chose, but it all disappeared!
The only reason I did not give The Compound the highest rating was due to the alcoholic beverages situation. There were no organic wines available, nor really good sherries. Due to certain sensitivities, I am not able to enjoy most wines, and would have liked an organic that I can enjoy with my meal. My husband ordered a gin gimlet that also did not live up to the standards found at other establishments in Santa Fe.
But the food and service are superb. And we can certainly make other alcoholic choices, or enjoy water or good coffees instead. This is one "famous chef" establishment that lives up to the laurels awarded.
The food, the remarkable service from Will and Christine.....all made a fabulous night.
In truth, always the best at The Compound!
Our first visit to The Compound was during Santa Fe Restaurant week. Despite the full house, the kitchen turned out delicious and spot on plates of food. The service was multilayered and unobtrusive. The wine list is excellent, with some vintners that can be hard-to-find in a restaurant context. All and all, it was a lovely evening. We'll definitely visit again.
As always The Compound is spectacular. Risotto and the Shrimp and grits were perfect.
We came here for Restaurant Week. My swordfish was amazing! My friend had the chicken schnitzel which was wonderful. The atmosphere, food and company made for a great night!
We were seated in an unadorned banquet room upstairs for Restaurant Week. We ordered all 3 courses when we were seated just after 7pm. We had to reorder a couple times. Delay after delay led to us getting our check at 9:30pm. We love/ loved The Compound but it’s going to take years to get over that experience. Wish we had left after the first 1/2 hr delay.
We happened to be there for restaurant week. The special menu had a great selection to choose from and the food was outstanding. The staff sure does hustle around the place!
Always one of the best in Santa Fe. Worth a trip.
As soon as we walked in the door, we were treated with respect and friendly service. The staff continued to impress throughout the meal. We enjoyed all of the food we ordered and would definitely return again!
I would like to begin by stating that The Compound Restaurant is AMAZING! The entire staff are professional, courteous, and attentive. Every time that my wife and I go to this restaurant we feel blessed to know the staff. The chef creates amazing dishes, and the onion rings should be recorded in history as being the best onion rings EVER! Thank you to the staff, the chef, the servers, the prep-cooks, the bartender, the hosts and hostess, what an amazing experience every time. Not only do I highly recommend The Compound Restaurant, I say, you must go there!
No vegan options on the dinner menu that I could see. Was told the risotto had ‘a little butter’, which I ordered. However, it was swimming in butter. Did not eat it, so I took it to-go so someone else could eat it. Everything else was lovely.
We had not been back to The Compound for a couple of years and had a simply wonderful meal on Friday and the service was so great. Will return!
Exquisite dinner on a snowy night during restaurant week. Service was gracious and attentive. Food was perfectly Seasoned and presented. The Pacific swordfish was mild, not at all fishy and perfectly cooked. The chicken schnitzel, a signature dish was wonderful, a lemon butter sauce over the chicken and capers dotting the top. Also recommended: the shade Brussel sprout salad and black muscles with chorizo and tomato sauce
Just an outstanding evening of fun, food and service.
Food was good. Very disappointing that there weren’t any children’s options. The service was attentive
It was my family’s effort to treat me, on my birthday, to dinner. My family’s history goes way back- like to the 70s when Victor owned the restaurant - I made this reservation 2 months in advance. We arrived on time, dressed to celebrate and pay homage to the fact The Compound used to be the finest dining you could find in Santa Fe. Mark Kiffin is a remarkable chef and this review doesn’t cast shade on his culinary gifts. I think the nut of my feedback is a training issue.
Our waiter never introduced himself, seemed pleasant at first but when I asked for a steak knife to cut a piece off to share with my daughter, he said that I didn’t need one. When I insisted, he begrudgingly brought one out. Who is the customer at that point? From that point on, he never checked back with us. We had ordered a bottle of wine, split by the four of us. Our glasses were empty by the time the last entree was served though he never asked if we’d like anything else. We were planning on another bottle of wine... and a celebratory dessert for my birthday and then a Port with coffee,. Instead, the waiter finally came by and took two of our wine glasses away(?) and asked if we wanted a glass of wine. we called for the check and left with presents unopened and everyone disappointed. Gosh a lovely night rendered in our lodging on my birthday, writing a review about how mad and disappointed we are.
Their pear turnip soup is amazing. Hands down one of the best items I've ordered in New Mexico. I will come back just to get that again. Everything else was pretty good, but nothing quite out did the soup!
Highly recommended. Food and service are outstanding.
Interesting apps and entrees, good portion size (not too big or small), surprisingly good wine list compared to when I was last there, plus an enthusiastic and knowledgeable sommelier -- a great addition.
Another exquisite meal at the Compound. I love that they always make any meal special with the attention to details in food & service. Each dish was off the charts. Always a must when in Santa Fe. A perennial class act.
I have known the Compound for years if not decades as an absolutely first class and reliable place for a special occasion. This time my wife and I took our nine year old grandson so that he could wear his brand new suit for the first time. The kindness and attention that he was paid, by everyone from the hostess to the Maitre'D to the wait staff and even the Sommellier was above and beyond any expectation and will long be remembered by all of us.
Outstanding Valentine's Day dinner. Superb service, delicious menu, and inviting atmosphere. Will include The Compound definitely when we next visit Sante Fe.
First course too salty. Main course sauce was terrible on the steak. Sent two meals back
A little loud (it was Valentines Day)but overall enjoyable.
Valentine's Day Dinner at The Compound was excellent! From the greeting & coat check when we entered, to the seating, to the presentation and flavorful food choices, everything and everyone was on top of their game! We sat upstairs which was quieter than the downstairs, we noticed as we left. We would highly recommend The Compound to anyone looking for fine dining in Santa Fe!
