Celebrated my birthday there at lunch. The food was good, nice atmosphere but the service was not very hospitable. The young woman who seated us seemed detached and less than welcoming. The bartender that took our order who has often been very friendly seemed sad. The waiter told every table the same line and was didn't make us feel like our patronage was appreciated. It's almost like the entire crew was scolded before service or something unfortunate happened the morning. There are so many good places in Santa Fe, I probably won't hurry back to The Compound.
My favorite place for lunch during Santa Fe summers.
Terrific restaurant. Check out the menu online. Great wine list and Kristin the sommelier is very knowledgeable and helpful.
The service was outstanding. The young man took very good care of the six of us. I had the stacked salad but personally it was too rich and too much on my plate. Overall all of us were happy with everything.
The Compound has everything: A great chef, professional/unobtrusive staff, interesting menu that is
ALWAYS reliable and creative, ambiance for both indoor and outdoor dining, quiet, elegant, and just
always the "go to" place for lunch or dinner. Everytime I contemplate going elswehere--I always
happily relent and return to The Compound. Off Canyon Road, it is in its longtime location surrounded
by trees, ample parking, and always wonderful staff. Great cuisine and great ambiance: What more can
one possibly want in a dining experience?
Went twice in 2 weeks. Always a gracious, delicious experience. Still one of the best in town. Will go back again on our next trip to SFe.
The server usually wasn’t available. Never checked back with us. Water glasses empty. Had to ask another server to get us what we needed.
Expensive, but delicious. Wonderful service.
This is the best restaurant I have ever need to. The entire staff are friendly, courteous, professional and the bartender and chef prepare amazing drinks and food. Amazing!
Everything has slipped, the food & the service. Possibly the last time we will eat here & we have been eating here since we moved to Santa Fe in 1975
Really we had a wonderful time. The service was great and the table was fantastic. Of course the food was the pinnacle of the evening and simply amazing. Thank u.!
Much improved from a terrible dinner a few years ago. Service was very good.
We enjoyed our lunch, but service could have been better. We had to go find salt when our meals arrived. My husband's medium hamburger came out medium rare. The beer seemed watered down, but the lemonade was wonderful. Great onion rings and fries. My burger was perfect.
Excellent food, foodie good. Overpriced wine with minimal pours. Service was slow to start.
There to celebrate our anniversary. Our server was Andrew and was outstanding. He made suggestions that were right on point with what I was looking for on both wine and food. And done so with genuine interest. The experience did not disappoint in anyway.
the service was personally excellent, but it took too long between courses. it took almost an hour between entree and mains. the kitchen seems to have lost our order. apologies all around, but it happened twice in one night. the food was good but not worth the price. the desserts were mildly disappointing.
The food was fantastic and the staff is very attentive. What more should anyone expect? We traveled from Albuquerque and the trip was worth it!
We spent ou last night in Santa Fe here for dinner. We ordered the duck and the pork tenderloin and both were delicious. The staff was very attentive and ambiance was very nice.
Lunch in the garden at The Compound is one of the best parts of summer in Santa Fe!
Never disappointed, always delicious. The sweetbread appetizer is outstanding!
Although the Compound is always a "go to" restaurant, our table for 8 was generally underwhelmed with the food this time.
Delicious and interesting food - relaxing and elegant atmosphere . Would highly recommend it
The place is beautiful. The food is good, but not very good. The appetizers were downright poor: the asparagus with the egg and the pork belly croutons was blah. The scallops were better, but I’ve had much better—and much cheaper. The dessert was not much to talk about. The service was indifferent, but warned a tad up.
The big problem is price-to-quality ratio. The prices are gourmet, the food is middle of the road. And a glass of wine for 18 Dollars?!?
excellent food, professional wait staff and excellent assistance with wine. A wonderful experience.
Hey, we like it, that's why we go there. Lunches are great, this particular dinner wonderful too. Just love the place and the service, food, ambience is just great.
Legendary Santa Fe establishment, hearkening back to a bygone enclave era, gorgeous locale. Its a shame that that was where the magic seemed to fizzle. Corn soup appetizer was tepid and overly sour with the chow-chow given the amount of bisque served. The duck entree, while served as requested at medium rare, was also tepid at best - perhaps its a Santa Fe thing, but I prefer my poultry more than tepid when brought to table, especially at $37/serving. The Gnocchi appetizer was again...tepid/luke warm. When asked of one of the servers if this was the kitchen's intended temperature for the dish, a server promptly responded "Hot food should be served hot" and quickly took it back to the kitchen. Unfortunately, the only thing the kitchen did was put the dish under a salamander broiler to warm it up, thus turning the gnocchi into tough gluey balls. While some may ask why I didn't raise all of these concerns to the service staff, I am of the opinion and dining caliber that at some point (and in a James Beard award-winning restaurant) the guests should not be coaching the staff or kitchen on generally accepted temperatures of food brought to table. My husband's tuna tartare was excellent, however. But then again, its tartare, so no heating required. His schnitzel was also full of flavor and piping hot from the fryer. Sorbets for dessert were fine, nothing exceptional.
With all this said, the restaurant has been around for over 50 years and is a local institution for food in Santa Fe. Its just a shame that after all those years and legacy that one could dine at a food truck on the Plaza and get food that was hotter, more fresh tasting than at this white tableclothed Canyon Rd hallmark.
My husband was experiencing a bad cold and we were seated in a quiet section for two .
My daughter and I had a wonderful experience dining here. The service was outstanding. Everyone we encountered was friendly, knowledgeable and kind. We can’t wait to dine here again!
Always the best !! Great birthday was had by all !!
We really enjoyed our lunch. Things started off badly, however, as the host lost my dining companion. Profuse apologies followed and all worked out well.
We have been lucky enough to dine many times at the Compound and it never disappoints! The service is impeccable, extremely professional, discreet, well timed without hovering. And the food is just delicious! While the traditional items that have appeared on the menu for some years continue to delight, the presence of new dishes always promises something fresh, scrumptious and tempting. Unlike many chefs, the chef at Compound does not throw weird items/spices/garnishes on to a plate just because he can; every addition serves a purpose, and heightens the flavor of all ingredients. I cannot recommend the Compound highly enough!
We always enjoy our visits to The Compound. Friendly wait staff and the food is dependably good. Our out of town guests enjoyed the ambiance and were please with their dinner choices.
We had a talented waiter, Sean, who was helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious! Perhaps it’s why the Compound is a favorite of ours. Only complaint was the very loud, large party next to us so noise was deafening and hard for us to talk.
Great food and service!
An enjoyable experience overall enhanced by the good server who attended us.
After three recent visits, our conclusion is that The Compound is the best and Number One restaurant in Santa Fe! The staff, the quality of food, and gorgeous setting are above of other competition. Santa Fe is a foodies mecca, and there are many options. But don't miss the opportunity to dine at this Special restaurant.
This is the perfect place to go after a busy week. The service is professional and unobtrusive. The food is outstanding, and the ambiance is quiet and calming. The Compound is always a must when we are in Santa Fe.
The food was fabulous, and the sevice impeccable. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is we'd requested courtyard seating. Our table had two chairs and a bench against the wall. The problem was ANTS! They were crawling on the wall and then the cushion and on to us. We asked to be reseated, and were moved inside. Seems someone should put a back on the benches and move them a few inches from the adobe wall.
The restaurant, is over stated and under-delivered. Waiter was pushy salesman and we were over sold.
Out door patio setting is the back of a house with exposed wires and poorly finished stucco. Very expensive. Lack luster...
WHEN IN SANTA FE ALWAYS DINE HERE ( A PLUS, VERY ADEQUATE PARKING) FOD AND SERVICE EXCELLENT VERY PEASANT ATMOSPHERE MANAGER WAS VERY RECEPTIVE TO SUGGESTION OF SOME LIGHTING ON THE DRIVE WAY HIGHTLY RECCOMEND COMPOUND
