Absolutely fabulous dinner!!
Although I have not been to The Compound in 4 years, a trip to Santa Fe must include a meal at The Compound! The food is always top quality with a lovely presentation each time I visit. The service is casual, yet upscale, the restaurant has managed to stay updated - and aesthetically pleasing to the eye!
My last visit was on a Sunday evening and you would have thought it was a busy Friday or Saturday, the atmosphere lively but cozy at the same time. I highly recommend to anyone planning a trip to Santa Fe and Canyon Road!
The landmark interiors have been seriously compromised by the redecorating scheme, with its NYC chairs, Wall to Wall carpeting, and yellowed walls.
I made the reservation because I wanted to visit a restaurant designed by my favorite designer, Alexander Girard, and I was delighted with the decor. For that reason, I hadn’t been as focused on the food quality when I chose the restaurant, but the meal and the service were superb! The seasonal pear and parsnip soup was distinctive and delicious, the entrees (swordfish and the stacked salad with chicken) were fantastic, and the plum cake with black pepper sorbet and the goat cheese cheesecake with pistachio crust and poached pears were amazing.
Alway the best and consistent!
Our first impression as the waiter bypassed our table to seat locals and make sure they were comfortable and had drinks first was not a good one. Most of the diners in this wait persons area were seated at the same time which made for a wait for many of us that would not have been necessary if the management of this restaurant scheduled their reservations better. We were quite surprised to find the drinks and food ordered to be excellent. We are foodies and enjoy a fine dining restaurant atmosphere, but unfortunately didn't find the service to equal the food. Maybe one of the neighboring restaurants could give some lessons on first class service to all of their patrons!
Beware of making a 2:00 lunch reservation. Apparently, the restaurant does not want 2:00 diners. The waiter told us as we were seated that the restaurant closes at 2:00 but the chef was aware we were there so we would be served. The hostess made no mention of a problem. We felt rushed. Overall not a good experience in a restaurant we have been to dozens of times. Open table offered the 2:00 reservation. There were many diners in the restaurant at the time we arrived and others were there when we left at 3:00.
This is a wonderful restaurant for fine dining. The atmosphere is lovely and the food delicious. We and our guests from Southern California all enjoyed it. One of our best meals during their stay in Santa Fe.
Great ambiance, great food, great service. Thanks Vanessa for upgrading my burger with poblano peppers.
Thank you for a wonderful lunch and attentive service.
I used to love the Compound but the quality of the food has gone down, while the prices remains high. The odor from the bathroom is very disturbing. It's been a poor quality bathroom for a very long time.
Delicious and well presented food. Service was fabulous, and lovely setting. Will be back to The Compound the next time I’m in Santa Fe.
Schnitzel overdone on one side, underdone on the other. Not up to usual standards.
We could not have had a better experience. The food was wonderful and the wait staff very responsive. Since we have recently moved to Santa Fe, The Compound will be a place we will be returning to.
Very nice restaurant. Felt it was somewhat stuffy atmosphere. Waiters were courteous but seemed rushed.
The food and ambiance at the Compound is amazing. Our server was very nice but perhaps too laid back for a restaurant from which diners have a right to expect higher standards. In a group of four, three cocktails were delivered and, after a reminder it took another 20 minutes for him to return with the fourth (well after we received our meals). The waiter barely apologized, explaining that he "got involved in a weird conversation." The table next to us had a similar experience -- waiting a long time for refills of wine and never receiving salt as requested. Trying to be kind, we asked if they were short-staffed and our waiter replied, "not really." I think we and/or he just had an off day and would be willing to give it another try.
The Compound never disappoints. Great service, food and ambiance. A+
The ambiance is very pleasant and relaxing. Our server was very busy with many tables and also tending the bar for his tables. However he was really hustling to keep up with all. The food was excellent !
The most enjoyable dining experience that we experienced while in Santa Fe in every respect.
Food was excellent
Had dinner Wednesday 10/2 at 8 PM - we had heard from so many other people that this was the place to go to. Honestly we were disappointed- the food was fine but our server was average at best and was more “matter of fact” than welcoming. Obviously the location on Canyon Road is attractive but sorry to say that this was just an average experience and given our expectations we left disappointed.
Compliments to all. The best duck I ever had. Service was professional. Just a pure dining experience
Very overpriced for the quality you get. There are many other restaurants in Santa Fe that are of much higher quality and service. Overall I would say its one of the worst culinary experiences I've had in some time.
We liked the Compound very much, but a steak was ordered medium rare and came back Med to Med well, and I had requested birthday acknowledgment but no one acknowledged.
Excellent service, ambience, and food! It was our anniversary and the staff treated us amazing and made it a truly wonderful dinner and celebration. The halibut was delicious, and the wine was perfect. We had requested a pinot noir that the restaurant unfortunately ran out of, and the sommelier brought us tastings in order to find the perfect wine for us. Thank you for a magical evening! We will be back!
Service and food was wonderful! We had a great evening.
Fabulous !!! Love The Compound !!! They always create the most special experience !!! Will was fantastic ..... superb service & knowledge and loved the sommelier ...Kristina!!! Thanks for another special evening !!!
Absolutely unforgettable anniversary dinner. We were met at the hostess station with a “happy anniversary” wish, and the evening just kept getting better. We started with an Old Fashioned and a Blood Orange Margarita—both excellent. The jumbo prawn appetizer was fabulous, as was the heirloom tomato bruschetta. We ordered the pork tenderloin and beef tenderloin—perfectly prepared with nuanced, delicious flavors. For dessert, we ordered the mint ice cream, which was great, but we were also treated to a special anniversary dessert of small bites. Service was perfect, the ambiance was incredible, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. No wonder The Compound has been an institution for over 40 years. Don’t be tempted by any other restaurant in Santa Fe for a special evening.
Setting is gorgoeous, perhaps the most romantic setting in Santa Fe. But, disappointed in the food. Loved the fresh roll which was complimentary, but the other dishes were all a disappointment given the price, especially the "peach" dessert which perhaps was not sufficiently in season to do something good with.
We love the Compound for our “ ladies’ lunch,” and having Valerie as our server made our experience even better. This is our favorite place for so many reasons.
This was our first time at this renowned restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. I had the shaved smoked salmon and it was delicious. We were there for lunch. It was a diverse lunch menu. I can’t wait to go again.
Great food and service in a delightful space! The server was particularly polite and indulgent.
Fabulous lunch in the outdoor patio. Beautiful day, excellent door and service.
Great bar. Tasty food. Attentive, intelligent waiters. What's not to love?
One of our favorites....after many years of coming to Santa Fe
It was great!
We started our evening at the bar, for a pre-dinner cocktail. The experience at the bar was very positive, chef greeted regular customers seated at the bar. We then were seated at our reserved table. Our waiter was mildly attentive, the sommelier was friendly. We ordered appetizers, dinner, wine and a desert, with many long inattentive pauses between courses. Again, chef was out greeting regular customers ensuring their dining experience was perfect. Honestly, it was just an okay meal, nothing was over the top delicious. When we dine out and spend over $300 for two, I expect a meal that leaves you savoring every bite.
Great service and food. Special lunch to break up a hot day of gallery viewing. Chopped salad and egg salad with smoked salmon were outstanding
Celebration of birthday. Food was excellent and just what I hoped it would be
Service was excellent also and knew when to stay in the background to allow us to enjoy our dinners.
