The Compound Restaurant
Chef Kiffin's menus focus on the exclusive changes in seasons such as hearty braised dishes in the fall and winter using apples, pears and cider from local harvests, osso bucco and porcini risotto while in spring and summer feature fresh local vegetables and naturally raised organic lamb and delectable strawberries.

Just an outstanding evening of fun, food and service.
Food was good. Very disappointing that there weren’t any children’s options. The service was attentive
It was my family’s effort to treat me, on my birthday, to dinner. My family’s history goes way back- like to the 70s when Victor owned the restaurant - I made this reservation 2 months in advance. We arrived on time, dressed to celebrate and pay homage to the fact The Compound used to be the finest dining you could find in Santa Fe. Mark Kiffin is a remarkable chef and this review doesn’t cast shade on his culinary gifts. I think the nut of my feedback is a training issue.
Our waiter never introduced himself, seemed pleasant at first but when I asked for a steak knife to cut a piece off to share with my daughter, he said that I didn’t need one. When I insisted, he begrudgingly brought one out. Who is the customer at that point? From that point on, he never checked back with us. We had ordered a bottle of wine, split by the four of us. Our glasses were empty by the time the last entree was served though he never asked if we’d like anything else. We were planning on another bottle of wine... and a celebratory dessert for my birthday and then a Port with coffee,. Instead, the waiter finally came by and took two of our wine glasses away(?) and asked if we wanted a glass of wine. we called for the check and left with presents unopened and everyone disappointed. Gosh a lovely night rendered in our lodging on my birthday, writing a review about how mad and disappointed we are.
Their pear turnip soup is amazing. Hands down one of the best items I've ordered in New Mexico. I will come back just to get that again. Everything else was pretty good, but nothing quite out did the soup!
Highly recommended. Food and service are outstanding.
Interesting apps and entrees, good portion size (not too big or small), surprisingly good wine list compared to when I was last there, plus an enthusiastic and knowledgeable sommelier -- a great addition.
Another exquisite meal at the Compound. I love that they always make any meal special with the attention to details in food & service. Each dish was off the charts. Always a must when in Santa Fe. A perennial class act.
I have known the Compound for years if not decades as an absolutely first class and reliable place for a special occasion. This time my wife and I took our nine year old grandson so that he could wear his brand new suit for the first time. The kindness and attention that he was paid, by everyone from the hostess to the Maitre'D to the wait staff and even the Sommellier was above and beyond any expectation and will long be remembered by all of us.
Outstanding Valentine's Day dinner. Superb service, delicious menu, and inviting atmosphere. Will include The Compound definitely when we next visit Sante Fe.
First course too salty. Main course sauce was terrible on the steak. Sent two meals back
A little loud (it was Valentines Day)but overall enjoyable.
Valentine's Day Dinner at The Compound was excellent! From the greeting & coat check when we entered, to the seating, to the presentation and flavorful food choices, everything and everyone was on top of their game! We sat upstairs which was quieter than the downstairs, we noticed as we left. We would highly recommend The Compound to anyone looking for fine dining in Santa Fe!
Main course was excellent. Appetizers were mediocre. Dessert (blueberry buckle) was dry, tasteless, and inedible. Service was excellent.
Valentine's day was a hit! Loved the food
Our experience was amazing.
Always an excellent choice for special occasions. This was a business lunch (thank you) - and all we had was the entre, so it was a bit different from a normal dining occasion.
This is our go to restaurant in Santa Fe for celebrating that "special occasion". The staff and people at the Compound work very hard to make your dining experience memorable. That is we like going there. Thank you.
Offensive, from the raw garlic and sandy clams in the appetizer to the server, simply rude and offensive. I got threw the sand and even gave the benefit of the doubt, but when I ordered the porkchop, it was so tough and dry, I had to say something. The waiter didn't even come to check on us after we received our main dish for about 18 minutes (I really wanted to switch my dish, kept checking my phone, cause it felt like forever). When i finally told him, he looked at me like I was crazy, so I became embarrassed, his goal, I am sure. When he said he would get me something else, it was already almost 1hour and 45 mins since we got there, we would have been there all night! He was also visibly relieved to hear that I couldn't wait another hour to get a different dish, offered no manager or assurance that they could make it right. It's like, the nicer you are to him, the more snobby and dismissive he became. All in all, this place may have been special in 80's, but now it is as stiff and dry as the food they make and the staff they employ. I wanted a memorable 40th bday dinner and it will be one for all the wrong reasons.
A little cold when we got there at noon, but otherwise great.
We went for a mid-week evening birthday celebration. This is a very special "place apart" at the end of a lane off busy Canyon Road. I can recommend the specialty Margaritas and roasted duck breast. Staff was attentive and sincerely interested in pleasing us, not patronizing as can be the case at upscale restaurants.
I had two wonderful starters and a glass of delicious white wine in the sunken bar. I appreciated being in the less formal bar area, and had good service. Some music would have been welcome, as the loud man from the dining room could be heard throughout the restaurant, but that is my only mild critique. I had the most delicious cream soup with pear and a brow flan - very special. Hope to return.
Food was good if not the best ever at Compounds. Oasis Bucco was nicely served, a little fatty but taste was good. Salmon was dry and the flavor was nothing special. The service was generally good although the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at some times. So a good evening if not great overall.
Next time I will eat in the bar for a more casual meal. Same chef so same great food.
The decor is understated Santa Fe elegance . . . the food is freshly prepared and impeccably served . . . And the attentive wait staff allows you to linger over coffee . . . My favorite Santa Fe restaurant . . .
Everything was perfect!!
Great food, decor and service. Food is delicious, but worth the money
Wonderful staff, top notch service and environment. Wonderful last dinner in Santa Fe. Diverse menu with perfect portion sizes and flavorings.
Food was excellent, good wine list at reasonable prices, tables spaced nicely - plenty of room between, and everything comfortable and great for a nice business dinner,
We have been to the compound many times and enjoyed it. We arrived and it was not busy but our server basicly ignored us half the time toward the end of our meal it got busy. The food was good but there were no specials so it was just the same old same old. Would love to see better service and new options.
The Compound serves the best food we’ve eaten in New Mexico.
Food was delicious, as perfect as many times before. Service was close to awful, server totally disinterested .
Probably the highlight of visiting Santa Fe other than OKeeffe and St Francis.
The Compound never fails to impress, with its beautiful and calming ambiance, its incredible cuisine and its superb service. It is my "go-to" place for friends and family who come to visit Santa Fe. All the staff, especially Kristina, treat us like royalty and yet, there is camaraderie and a sense of fun when we get a chance to talk. All in all, it is quintessential Santa Fe and shows the best of what this city has to offer!
Service was good but nothing special. Chicken schnitzel was very good and we brought home half of it to enjoy the next day. Salmon was also very well executed and they were generous with the lentil mixture, which costs nothing but bulked up the plate and made it seem a better value and that is appreciated.
We had a great time dining at the Compound for a special occasion. The food was impeccable. Overall a very special meal.
We liked the restaurant very much. I received the wrong dish from what I ordered but chose not to say anything. The staff is very friendly, the restaurant is lovely and the food was good.
The service, the food and the atmosphere were all top-notch. I cannot wait to get back for dinner or lunch again.
The Compound Restaurant far exceeded our expectations with the most outstanding service ever, and wonderful ambiance. The meal was excellent and the portions large. Highly recommended for any special occasion - or no occasion at all!
Steaks over cooked twice! Suggested wine was ok, but very expensive and we were not told the cost.
Everything was perfect and some of us were dieting and the chef met our needs...dinner was AWESOME!!!!!
The Compound has been a favorite of mine for many years but it really needs a facelift. The inside looks tired and old and frankly a little weird with the rainbow and the strange ceiling tile, etc. The walls are marred and need repainting. The ambience is lacking I'm afraid. I think I will wait to revisit until they do some remodeling as I dine for the whole experience not just the food and service, which are wonderful.
