The Commons is a cocktail bar, espresso cafe, and bakery, and also serves great comfort food.
Did the restaurant week menu this time, because, why not, right? Portions are small but it was filling and, as I've come to expect, delicious!
Second or third time going here. I was drawn back by the Chicken and Waffle from the last time, but... I am now "trying to eat a more vegetarian diet", so on the look out for all things, vegetarian. I found the breakfast Veggie Scramble on the menu, so I went for it... Well I missed the detail on the menu about "Home Fries" as I would have skipped them as well, as am trying to decrease my intake of fat... (Deep fried potatoes, not good). Sliced tomatoes or fruit would have been a good option.
The size of the plate, IMHO, was rather small, based on my previous experiences, plus the overall ratio of veggies to scrambled egg was, way more veggies than eggs... This was not my favorite, as I really wanted much more egg. The home fries were a distraction for me, so I ate some (and I was doing so good, ordering vegetarian).
The cost for the dish was reasonable, $13. In line with local restaurants in the area.
BTW, there is now a 20% automatic "Service Charge" on the bill, regardless of the level of service received. For this time, I was not sure I would have been that generous, but I guess this is the sign of the times, and how difficult it is to find and pay restaurant servers, etc. I would really explore other options for this, as the Service Charge is ALSO taxed at 10% by the state.
Next time, I'll have to try something else on the menu...
Hey, I did come back, as the last two times were pretty dang good!
Great spot! Varied menu, great cocktails, excellent service!
They were extremely busy, and the computers were down. They continued to give our table excellent service and a great attitude. Energy was great. Every employee was extremely kind and greeted us with a smile! Love this place.
We are long-time Commons patrons. It's our go-to place for burgers. Usually we have a great meal but this time there were two major flaws. The first was after we were seated. Our server came by and poured our water and said he would be right back to take our order. 20 minutes later, we hadn't seen him...well actually we had. We could see him talking to other servers near the kitchen. We finally flagged down another server who took our order for drinks and dinner. Incredibly bad service. He not only neglected us but the couple next to us was trying to pay and get out but he left them with an empty table for 20 minutes plus until they got their checks.
My second major problem was with the bread. I know, this is such a small thing but still. On the menu is an appetizer labeled "Sourdough." There was no way this flat, no-taste bread was sourdough. I LOVE bread. Really love it. And I truly love sourdough. This wasn't sourdough. So sad.
And in looking up the sourdough bread on the menu I discovered that the menu listed on Open Table bears absolutely no resemblance to the menu in the restaurant. It's not that it's totally different but more than it's about three times the number of items on the online menu as in the restaurant. We were kind of amazed compared to previous times when had been there to see how small the menu had become.
All in all, a pretty sad state of affairs. I hope the poor service isn't the result of their adopting a no-tip but add 20% to the check policy. I love this policy but not if it means poor service.
There was a issue with the computer system and our reservation we were phoned to let know there was a slight delay in our reservation. I feel terrible for forgetting her name. When we arrived we recieved a very warm welcome and a kind explanation of the situation. Even though there was a delay we were at our table within a couple of minutes. Everyone made a connection with each of us. A true example of great service. Food was amazing as always with generous portions. The brussel sprouts were off the charts. Great flavor and textures. They would make even the biggest hater of brussel sprouts fall in love with them. Can't wait to go back
We celebrated 3 birthdays and had a great time. The food was fabulous! Some of us did the Restaurant Week menu and others of the regular menu. The Chicken Pot Pie could serve 3 and it was wonderful! Love the Bacon Bourbon Bloody Mary YUM!
Great service, good food, and very friendly atmosphere.
Great meal with great friends. We shared several items among the four of us and everything was outstanding. Will definitely be back.
This place has a modern-farmhouse feel. It is a cute place to get a cappuccino in the afternoon or a casual, rustic meal in the evening. The food quality is better than average. They try to create healthy, whole food dishes—although, the prices are a bit high for the plate sizes and the service. Upon arriving at the restaurant, the hostess greeted us but then quickly noted that we had children. She expressed her frustration at that fact, and we instantly felt ill-at-ease, as if we had done something wrong. We sat and waited for more than ten minutes for the waiter to arrive at our table—the restaurant was half-full of patrons. When she did show up, she seemed friendly enough, but too rushed be bothered by us. We waited for fifteen minutes for our cappuccinos. They were cold and the foam had settled into the cup. I asked for a fresh one, which was promptly delivered. Immediately after that, the food arrived. We didn't interact with the waiter for the rest of our meal. Overall, the food quality was good and the atmosphere was quaint. Sadly, the interactions with the rude, pretentious staff soured the experience.
Waitress was inattentive
When cane over took our drinks before empty
Just an overpriced experience that was disappointing
Great service, food was a bit expensive for what we received.
Delicious, great atmosphere and great food...... Go
Mike was an awesome server. Good It is loud in there. Also, it is $3 more for GF bread which is a little high imho.
Friend and I went in for dinner with 6pm reservations. We were disappointed with the service and amount of time it took to get anything, even a 2nd drink. Food was good though.
As always this restaurant is consistently brilliant. You can't get a mediocre dish here. It's all so delicious!
Food an service was good. You have to be ready for a fairly noisy dining experience.
Our server Forest was so fantastic! I know I’ll definitely be back! Have to try the cinnamon roll next time
The Commons never disappoints! One of my favorite spots for brunch on the Eastside.
Our food was delicious! Happy hour is only a little off regular prices. Kids menu is quite expensive. I wish the seats were padded. With that being said, I'd definitely go back!
Another excellent incomparable meal in my favorite restaurant! The food is simply outstanding. Try their tomato soup!!! OMG, the most incredible flavour. I'm their biggest fan.
Great service and great brunch menu! Love bringing friends to try this place out and have a great experience each time. Even made another brunch reservation for the following week!
We were seated quickly although we were early for our reservation. Our waiter, Mike, was awesome. He was prompt, personable and attentive. The other staff as well as Mike were quick to take our order, serve our appetizers (seared Brussels sprouts), our salads (half orders of kale Caesar and farro & goat cheese) and split our main dish for no extra charge (beef short rib). Our empty dishes were taken away quickly. We also split a red velvet cake slice with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious. A potential problem could be parking. We got lucky and found a spot right away. But I can see how it could be difficult if we had gone at peak times. It is also on the expensive side. Might be best for special occasions. We had a lovely time.
The service was FANTASTIC! Of course, the food was very good. (I had the veggie Benedict and my husband had the huevos rancheros. We shared a cinnamon Rolland it was soooo good) but we were truly impressed with the service. From the hostess to our server it was a five star experience.
Amazing! My girlfriend and I started with a cinnamon roll and split the special which was a chili Benedict. Both were perfect! Excited to go back.
My wife and I have visited this place no less than six times. I'm still shocked that it's not busier and we are grateful to be able to get right in. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is perfect. Busy, but not craziness. Will absolutely go again.
Excellent food and service! I will be back soon. Delicious food and a helpful wait staff.
Great service, friendly, fun atmosphere. Parking can be tough on the weekends.
Expensive for dinner. Breakfast is a much better experience.
Great dinner with the family
Everything was amazing!!!
Good place, but parking is pretty bad
We would highly recommend starting off with a cinnamon roll. They are made fresh every morning, and are excellent!
As always, The Commons didn't disappoint. Our waitress Allie was amazing; anticipated needs, checking in without being intrusive and friendly. I am from Seattle but living abroad now. This was the top of the list for places I wanted to visit for brunch. Highly recommend.
We come to The Commons a lot, and always have a great time. My only complaint is it's pricey. My sandwich, fries, no drink, was $25 with tip. A sandwich. It was delicious though.
We asked to be seated on a double table next to the window. She said that has been reserved. I said we have reserved too. She would not do it. Then the food arrived. The steak was the worst I have ever tasted. It was chewi like gum and could not swallow. It had some green stuff and camewith a pile of overcooked dark brown fries. I could not eat it. I told the waitor and he took off the price. We gave him a fifty dollar gift card but still had to pay sixty dollar. It was my birthday present!
Good restaurant for adults, and they are sensitive to kid’s needs/desires. Only issue is that if your child doesn’t like sourdough bread (& ours doesn’t), and they order the grilled cheese, you’ll have to order another... the second was on whole wheat- which was too “whole” for my daughter’s taste. Recommend you bring in some simpler breads for your younger/pickier customers... but the wait staff was really flexible and accommodating!
Love taking the family to The Commons! Everyone can find something the like and the kids love the intricate coloring sheets. Food was excellent, appreciated the wine selection, service was attentive but not over-bearing. Only down side - music and noise. Hard to hear and have conversation.
Great food, excellent service! Avocado toast was delicious!
Attentive, friendly service
Reservations are a good idea
Breakfast is our favorite
