At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

While understaffed, they worked hard to please us. Server John is terrific. Focaccia was great, but not heated. Great cavatelli
Excellent service, food and atmosphere in downtown Pittsburgh.
It was fabulous! It is one of our favorite restaurants because of the wonderful food, staff, and ambiance!
Wonderful brunch with a friend who came in from NYC. Bloody Larry and Aperol Spritz were wonderful. Love to come here when I have friends in from out of town. Great brunch.
Wonderful breakfast! Server was terrific!
Dinner was great at the Commoner! The restaurant was crowded so it was hard to hear, but not impossible. We were promptly offered drinks, both of which were really summery and fresh. The asparagus appetizer was incredibly unique and worth ordering, and although simple, the burger was one of the best I’ve tasted. The scallop entree was great as well, but would’ve been highlighted by some fresh vegetables to offset the heavier risotto. Our server was very nice, but nothing memorable and the runners mixed up which table food went to 3-4 times throughout the night. Overall, a great experience!
Absolutely perfect!!! The steak was grilled beautifully just how I ordered it (medium rare of course). Scallops with risotto was beyond words. I also had to try the Tartar and I think I actually cried a little bit from joy. If you haven’t tried this place, you must. Much love to the chef and kitchen staff. Ps waitstaff was on point! Never had to wave one down.
Food was underwhelming. Drinks were very overpriced.
Excellent food and service. A pleasant surprise for downtown Pittsburg
The salmon was fantastic. It was the best salmon dish I've ever eaten.
Menu is limited unless you like pork, which is in nearly every dish. We were a little bit miffed by being told "no iced tea" was available. I finally convinced the waitress to bring me a cup of hot tea and a glass of ice. Management needs to read the book by restauranteur Cameron Mitchell "Yes is the answer. What is your question?" Don't bother with valet parking. They just parked the car at the end of the block, and we had to take my handicapped 88 year old mother (it was her birthday brunch) by wheelchair to car, since they did not want to bring it to her. $15 plus tip instead of $6 self park.
Otherwise, the staff were friendly, and the food quality was good.
Very tasty food. We frequently come here when we are in Pittsburgh. Never fails to please us. Great staff. Funky atmosphere. Good drinks.
I had the beef tartare and it was just incredible. It had a fantastic brightness to it. For my main course, I had the salmon. The flavor combinations were amazing. I would 100% order the same combo in the future!
We had the scallops and fried pork chop entrees. For the scallops, the risotto was not hot, for the pork chop, the brussel sprouts were not fully cooked(hard). flavor profiles were for both entrees were spot on. We'll give it another try.
The food was delicious and service excellent. I highly recommend and best steak I ever had. Our table enjoyed the whole experience from service, meal and desert.
We were staying for one night in Pittsburgh and our hotel was a short walk to The Commoner. The space is large yet cozy, modern yet timeless. Our waiter was attentive and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time (I don’t like when it’s rushed). I forget what we had for appetizers but I remember it was delicious, as was the bread that was brought to the table. My husband had the fried pork chop (yum). I was going to get scallops until the people next to us got burgers and they looked and smelled amazing. So I ordered that and it was DELICIOUS!!
Great! Easy good quality
They do a wonderful brunch. Our table had mixed, "Holy cow this is good" and "It was pretty good" to the food. Service was outstanding, and it is a lovely space.
My guest had the Chicken and Waffle, I had the Quiche Lorraine, and we had a side of bacon for the table. My guest had orange juice and I had coffee. It was a lovely breakfast. Food was delicious, though I wish the bacon had been a bit crispier--next time I will ask, I didn't specify when I ordered. Samantha was our server, and she was very attentive, but unobtrusive. Staff was in masks, we are fully vaccinated, but we wore ours whenever we weren't at our table out of respect for everyone's comfort as we're all coming out of this. Overall, a lovely morning, and I will be back.
Absolutely outstanding. The food was exceptional, the service was fantastic, and they even took time to honor a very silly special request I had made in order to make my and my wife's anniversary extra special. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Good service, great ambiance, and the food was excellent! Best salmon I’ve ever had - planning to head back with my husband soon!
Our server keirsten was great, fast friendly service & food was delicious
Great service. Waiter gave very helpful recommendations. 3/4 dishes were very good. We will be back to try out the brunch menu
A little pricey for breakfast; everything is a la carte. Food was fine, but breakfast for two ended up around $50!
Over the past two months , we have made the Commoner a routine place to eat before Penguin games . Today, the food service was exceptionally slow. Very uncommon, for an other wise great place to eat. It was disappointing to say the least, especially when we had booked our reservation for 6:15 and the game was 7:30
Arrived for a reservation 30 min prior to closing time. I understand this is extremely annoying to the workers about to be off for the night and the cook staff....but the irritation levels of the wait staff showed through while serving us. The food was decently high priced at $26 for pork tenderloin that came out cold to the touch. We both sent our plates back and requested the burger instead knowing that would be a faster cook option. The wait staff again showed over irritation at us and begrudgingly took our order back to the kitchen. The burger was hot but not much more to say beyond that. The ambiance of this restaurant was very cool and laid back and we had high hopes for it. Unfortunately it came up drastically short of the mark.
Wonderful service, lovely ambiance, and great portions for an affordable price. No complaints!
Food was amazing—we went for breakfast. Tables are spaced out, it was popular but we felt very comfortable with how the capacity was managed. Great atmosphere and would love to go back. Friendly and helpful staff.
Celebrated my birthday with brunch. It was delish! We are anxious to return for dinner!
Our friend group went to the Commoner for brunch and it was exactly what we wanted/hoped for. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic. A must try when you are in Pittsburgh!
In person dining was great. We also had room service and found that disappointing. My daughter ordered a steak that came (along with all the items) in a brown box with a plastic knife. It was impossible to eat that way. Breakfast in person was great though.
fun/ friendly staff from ladies at the front to , then bringing us to our table and awesome waiter!!! food , as always, creatively delicious!!!!! grilled fish and the super creative cavatelli was amazing!!! we came into town for weekend and it was one of our best/ memorable times in pittsburgh that weekend!!! thank you!!!! Anthony Randy Conti
Very nice atmosphere. Cocktail was outstanding. Beet salad was above average. The steak was above average but I definitely would go back here. It is a definite day to day type of place. Tried some of my Dads cavatelli and that was outstanding.
Too pricey for what you get. Paid for “amazing”, and got “pretty good”.
I love this restaurant - my only complaint was the sous-vide beef - my mother requested this $40 meal be cooked rare, but that was not possible due to it being cooked to medium-rare sous-vide and finished on a grill. This resulted in a medium - medium-well steak (it was less done on one end). That's disappointing... I wouldn't want to pay that much for a steak that can be done to my preferences. Also, the twice-baked potato that came with it looked like it sat under a heat lamp for 20 minutes.
Food, service, and ambiance are outstanding! Had brunch and the avocado toast with crab salad and a side of maple glazed bacon were absolutely delicious! Drinks were tasty as well. Will definitely return!
Thank you for a perfect Mother’s Day brunch.
Really great spot for brunch! Make a reservation, saw quite a few people get turned away. The avocado toast with spicy crab on sourdough bread was SO good. Others at the table for the chicken and waffles, classic benedict and the malted waffle and everyone said theirs were delicious. Also got a side of shoestring fries and maple bacon. YUM! Great atmosphere and our server was very good. We will definitely be back to dry dinner and brunch again. Highly Recommend!!
Enjoyable brunch-only complaint was that they were out of several items in the menu
Went for Sunday brunch. Absolutely amazing everything! The server and bartender were fantastic...can’t wait to go back.
