The Commoner in Downtown Pittsburgh is open for business!

At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

We had the duck and a burger. Both were great. Our server was knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions. The only suggestion I have is to expand the menu a bit. It was a nice experience. I’ll be back.

Was there for Thanksgiving dinner. The meal was amazing, traditional but better!! Their food is very creative and everything is excellent. Everyone goes out of their way to please their customers and to make a pleasant experience, this includes everyone from the bar staff, bussers, wait staff, cooks, etc.! Good job guys! 🙂

My friend and I went for brunch and loved it! The eggs Benedict are always the way to go and so is the chicken and waffles. The candied bacon side is also spectacular.

The food was great. However, I was very disappointed that I was allowed to make a 1:30 reservation but the restaurant stops taking orders at 1:30. We had an idea what we wanted so it was easy for us to order but I didn't enjoy being rushed

We stayed at the Kimpton, and the Commoner was easy to have a lovely breakfast.
We were happy to start our day there.

We enjoyed our meal at The Commoner. We paid for valet parking, which wasn’t anymore than a parking garage would be - and it was great being able to pull right up to the curb and go right in to restaurant. The food menu was a bit limited and somewhat overpriced but what we had was delicious! I would go back again and highly recommend it!

Booked several days at the restaurant. The last day they marked my reservation as “canceled” charged us for our breakfast at the restaurant then charged my husband’s card for a “no show fee”. No one is available to take our call to reverse the erroneous charge. Not worth going back after all this.

Brunch, in downtown Pittsburgh is hard to come by. Both my husband and I had excellent meals. Our Waitress recommended the Pork and Eggs dish and it was outstandingly delicious! Spouse had the Breakfast Sandwich which he said was excellent. Overall a great experience!

Flavor explosion! Potato Leek soup was fantastic. Steak, burger, and sea bass were a hit. Chocolate ganache was amazing. Must go if you are in the neighborhood and can tolerate a small but special menu.

Met up prior to an early football game for breakfast. Greeted and seated quickly. Server was very friendly and attentive and food was very good. Large serving of the French toast and the pierogies and the eggs Benedict was a perfect portion. Breakfast potatoes were delicious. Nice menu selection too. Would recommend for breakfast and will definitely return.

My boyfriend and I went to brunch with my grandfather here on Sunday morning! We had a great time and the food was awesome. Our coffee cups were never empty and the service was solid. We had the avocado toast, eggs Benedict, and chicken waffle with maple glazed bacon and everything tasted great.

Went for Sunday brunch and it was fantastic. The chicken and waffles, marbled waffle, and avocado toast were all amazing. Also, can’t go wrong with the Mimosas for a Bunch. A bottle of bubbly and two choices of juice. Just a wonderful atmosphere and amazing food. Will definitely go again next time in Pittsburgh.

Food was so so. The appetizers and salads were very good. But, the entrees of the ribeye and cavetelli were average, at best, especially the cavetelli. It was like eating a jar of dried tomatoes. The ribeye was small. Dessert was ok. Our server was excellent but over whelmed serving large tables with little help. The servings were slow coming, starting with the drinks. More help was needed. Hopefully, our experience was a one off as we enjoyed the Commoner on prior visits. We assume the service issue was due to the labor issue the US is seeing.

Very limited menu with little flexibility or choices. The potato starter was so greasy that the grease was sitting in pools on the top. I realize these were fried potatoes, but it was more like potato skins dipped in oil. The salmon was good and cooked to order.
I have to eat gluten-free and would not recommend to people who need a GF menu. The server acted as if I was imposing when I asked a couple easy questions about ingredients. They really didn't want to try to help me find something I could eat. Last time we will go there.
But, the ambience was quite nice; noise level reasonable. The hostess was very pleasant.

My fiancé and I celebrated her birthday here. It’s a solid date nights restaurant. The food is decently good, highly recommend the crispy potatoes as an appetizer!! But the service is what sells this place. Our waiter was wonderful and attentive and made the night beyond enjoyable.

This place has great ambience--it's located inside a very hip downtown hotel and the space is open, modern, and industrial. It's the perfect date night restaurant---indeed, we saw many couples there on a latish (for dinner) Saturday night. The signature cocktails were interesting, inspired, and evidently much in demand.

We were less impressed by the food. True to its name, the menu featured largely elevated versions of familiar dishes, such as fried pork chops. There was nothing wrong with our food, but there was nothing particularly memorable about it either. Call me crazy, but if you're going to charge me $30 for a pork chop or modest bowl of pasta, I want to be talking about it afterward.

The food was subpar to say the least especially for the price, service and in comparison to what I’ve had there before. I have come to The Commoner for years for special events, dining and celebrations and this was by far the worst experience for an almost $300 bill. The food was terrible and could not even finish the plate. 3 of us ordered the flat iron steak and it was absolutely atrocious… I don’t know how anyone could serve that and be pleased with it. We will unfortunately not be coming back here anytime soon. Despicable.

I was somewhat apprehensive over the limited menu choices, but much to my surprise it surpassed all my expectations. My husband, who is trying to incorporate fish into his diet, had halibut and couldn’t believe how delicious it was. I had the scallops which were phenomenal-Although, the corn risotto was a bit flavorless. We also ordered a salad and potato appetizer. Holy crap those potatoes!!!! We will most definitely come back.

I’ve dined out a few times during the pandemic and my meal at the Commoner far exceeded all other experiences. Our waiter was extremely attentive and timed our food perfectly. The food itself was PHENOMENAL!!! I truly could not have asked for a better night out. The Commoner remains one of my favorite places!!!
