At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

My boyfriend and I went to brunch with my grandfather here on Sunday morning! We had a great time and the food was awesome. Our coffee cups were never empty and the service was solid. We had the avocado toast, eggs Benedict, and chicken waffle with maple glazed bacon and everything tasted great.
Appreciate the space, the great ambient music, the well constructed cocktail “program,” the space, the vibe and the food.
I understand it’s a hotel restaurant, but $16 for 2 eggs, bacon and toast ? 3 of us cost $80 before tip. Very expensive
Best Breakfast we have ever had. We travel across the country regularly and this is by far the most high quality fantastic breakfast we have ever had. Bloody Mary was also very good. Cute atmosphere! Great service! 10/10! And I am a tough critic! Highly recommend
Beautiful building and amazing food to go with it.
Very nice location, great food, great service. Went for brunch and would love to go back for dinner.
Food was so so. The appetizers and salads were very good. But, the entrees of the ribeye and cavetelli were average, at best, especially the cavetelli. It was like eating a jar of dried tomatoes. The ribeye was small. Dessert was ok. Our server was excellent but over whelmed serving large tables with little help. The servings were slow coming, starting with the drinks. More help was needed. Hopefully, our experience was a one off as we enjoyed the Commoner on prior visits. We assume the service issue was due to the labor issue the US is seeing.
Excellent service, delicious food, and a very fun industrial-chic atmosphere that was perfect for a date night. Highly recommend.
Absolutely delicious breakfast. The fingerling potatoes were spectacular. We will visit again!
Great dinner with friends before a concert.
Very limited menu with little flexibility or choices. The potato starter was so greasy that the grease was sitting in pools on the top. I realize these were fried potatoes, but it was more like potato skins dipped in oil. The salmon was good and cooked to order.
I have to eat gluten-free and would not recommend to people who need a GF menu. The server acted as if I was imposing when I asked a couple easy questions about ingredients. They really didn't want to try to help me find something I could eat. Last time we will go there.
But, the ambience was quite nice; noise level reasonable. The hostess was very pleasant.
My fiancé and I celebrated her birthday here. It’s a solid date nights restaurant. The food is decently good, highly recommend the crispy potatoes as an appetizer!! But the service is what sells this place. Our waiter was wonderful and attentive and made the night beyond enjoyable.
Great food and service. Would definitely come back
This place has great ambience--it's located inside a very hip downtown hotel and the space is open, modern, and industrial. It's the perfect date night restaurant---indeed, we saw many couples there on a latish (for dinner) Saturday night. The signature cocktails were interesting, inspired, and evidently much in demand.
We were less impressed by the food. True to its name, the menu featured largely elevated versions of familiar dishes, such as fried pork chops. There was nothing wrong with our food, but there was nothing particularly memorable about it either. Call me crazy, but if you're going to charge me $30 for a pork chop or modest bowl of pasta, I want to be talking about it afterward.
We really enjoyed the food and the coffee. The service was exceptional!
Wow. Food was amazing as was the service. I cannot wait to go back.
Arrived early and they were able to sit us at our table immediately. Great place to dine!
The food was subpar to say the least especially for the price, service and in comparison to what I’ve had there before. I have come to The Commoner for years for special events, dining and celebrations and this was by far the worst experience for an almost $300 bill. The food was terrible and could not even finish the plate. 3 of us ordered the flat iron steak and it was absolutely atrocious… I don’t know how anyone could serve that and be pleased with it. We will unfortunately not be coming back here anytime soon. Despicable.
It was for my friend and I’s birthday, and we loved it! Definitely one of my favorite restaurant!
Love it at the commoner! Please bring english muffins back during the week for breakfast.
The commoner is consistently delicious. Service is always very good as well. I can’t wait to come back and try their chicken and waffles!
I was somewhat apprehensive over the limited menu choices, but much to my surprise it surpassed all my expectations. My husband, who is trying to incorporate fish into his diet, had halibut and couldn’t believe how delicious it was. I had the scallops which were phenomenal-Although, the corn risotto was a bit flavorless. We also ordered a salad and potato appetizer. Holy crap those potatoes!!!! We will most definitely come back.
I’ve dined out a few times during the pandemic and my meal at the Commoner far exceeded all other experiences. Our waiter was extremely attentive and timed our food perfectly. The food itself was PHENOMENAL!!! I truly could not have asked for a better night out. The Commoner remains one of my favorite places!!!
I booked Commoner to get out of waiting a long time some place better. The best I can say: the food and service are ok, and they take and honor reservations. It's not a good value or interesting, in my opinion. Service quibble: if you deliver the latte spilled all over the saucer, don't just say sorry - how about a cocktail napkin or something? I'm being understanding in these weird times, but I'm pretty sure she visibly rolled her eyes at me for ordering a cappuccino (and then brought a latte that was sloshed all over the saucer).
This is our favorite place to go when we're in Pittsburgh. It's always a really great experience. It's always fun to see and try new things on the menu. Cannot recommend this place more highly.
We were in Pittsburgh for six days and staying at the Omni, so for all those days we pretty much stayed in the downtown area for dinner. Every single night we were incredibly disappointed by our food choices, that is, until the last night when we ate at the Commoner.
The service was excellent and the food was very good, certainly not the best I've ever had, but really quite good. We loved the wedge salad, which is definitely big enough for two. My husband loved his steak, which was both souvied and grilled. My scallop dish wasn't quite as good. I thought the tomatoes were great on their own, but pretty bizarre in the dish, and the risotto was super skimpy on the black truffles, which made the risotto seem mushy and bland. The truffle was in one little corner, and with it, the risotto was quite good, but without it, actually pretty gross. And, although I understand the super raw scallops are the norm now, the scallops were so underdone I really couldn't stomach them. They probably could have benefitted from a toss or two on the grill.
Overall though, we did enjoy our meal, and the savuigon blanc we ordered was exceptional. I did take note that the same rose I bought that day for 19 bucks was on their menu for 80. So, that seems a bit overpriced, although I know the mark-up on booze is out-of-control in most restaurants.
Last thing I noticed was that it was exceptionally loud. So not a great place for a romantic night out, but it was certainly lively, if that's your thing.
It was awesome!
Able to get a reservation for 8 people, great table, super server, delicious food!
Appetizer tartar could have had more toasts…3 pieces and not enough for the generous portion of tartar. We ordered two of these appetizers (among others) and feel server should be in tune to number of people at table and adjust toast amounts … just one more piece of toast per portion would have been appropriate!
Overall, we love this restaurant … from valet to the rooftop bar! Thank you for a fun night showing off Pittsburgh to our guests!
Food is amazing!!! Service was great and Ambiance of the restaurant is also terrific. Highly recommend. My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. Make sure to give the Valet parking 10-15 min to retrieve your car at the end.
Good drinks, food, and service. A little pricey for what they are serving.
It's been a while with the pandemic and all, but The Commoner hasn't missed a step in the interim. The food and cocktails still have their snap and pizzazz intact and raring to go! From the appetizer of crispy potatoes with taleggio fondue and roasted garlic butter to my entree of seared scallops with summer corn risotto, cherry tomatoes, black truffle vinaigrette, and watercress, every bite was heaven. The cocktails were expertly crafted by our very personable bartender, Ryan, which really made the evening an excellent experience. Thanks for a warm and fun evening!
I went for dinner and drinks with my two friends. It was pretty pricey but we knew that it was going to be going in. The smash burger was so moist and delicious but I could’ve done without the fries for $4. We did get the crispy potatoes with fondue and they were delicious!!! The wine was also very good and next time I’m going to get one of their signature cocktails. The atmosphere is really trendy and cute. Also you get to see them making the food which is really nice and it was so clean.
Arrived a little early but they were able to accommodate us. Cocktails are good, food is very good, service is good without being overbearing
I had a really good time and great Saturday brunch at The Commoner. Do make a reservation in advance as this place was pretty popular when I went. Overall, prices were a decent value, food was very good (I had Chicken and Waffle), the ambiance was modern and nice thought slightly dark. Waiter was friendly. I def recommend and would come back here again.
Always great. One of my favorite spots for brunch.
Had a great time seeing old friends in Pittsburgh for a wedding, but we got breakfast here to start off the day!
Fantastic! a must if you are in downtown Pittsburgh. The food is hearty and perfect for a rainy night. The staff was very sweet and personable. Unfortunately they were out of the dessert we wanted, but the manager was kind enough to give us both of the available ones on the house! it could not have been a better night.
Waygu was delicious. Ambiance great. Cocktails were to die for. Need more selections, and the food came out lukewarm.
