The Coal Shed London
Open seven days a week, the restaurant uses the highest quality ingredients, sourced as locally as possible. Try the 35-day aged sharing steaks or the South Coast sharing fish for a dining experience to remember.
The Coal Shed London, occupies two floors and a bar for pre and post dinner drinks and cocktails expertly crafted. If you want to host your own event, there is a private dining room on the mezzanine or the restaurant can be exclusively hired for any type of occasion.
Fabulous starters, steak (Chateaubriand), sides and wine (French Malbec). And puds. And service.
The restaurant has a really nice vibe about it, relaxed and cool. The food was really nice, the wine even nicer and the staff were perfect.
I would definitely recommend to everyone, perfect place to go on a date, with friends or family.
We came for Sunday lunch sharing platter ! It was the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had - the cabbage side is a must ! We will definitely be back the staff were friendly and so attentive 10/10 x
We arrived early and were shown to a seat in the entrance, and offered a drink. The place was very busy so I would have expected to be given menus so that we could have decided what to eat before we sat down. We weren't - however, we were called to our table on time.
The place was very busy and we sat cheek by jowl with our fellow guests. It was very loud and very a little claustrophobic. Our orders were taken within about 5 minutes, but it took nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive - steak and chips. I thought they might be trying to catch the cow......
Food WAS superb, but you order a steak, you get nothing else, literally nothing else with it. A small side of chips is £4. The bill (bear in mind we only drank water, shared one side and had one dip each) was £67 (which included a 12% 'optional' service charge).
This restaurant looks good, the food is good, but service is bordering on average and the price is extortionate. There are several other restaurants close by serving similar fair, to the same standard, at a much reduced cost.
We would not recommend this restaurant and sadly, we will not visit it again.
Great food and service. fantastic evening and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal out
Food was great, service was a little slow in terms of asking you what you would like and for drinks.
The portions are small but the quality of food is great. I would definitely recommend two sides if getting the steak as 1 is not enough
Overall nice restaurant. Starters were very pricey for what you get. Ordered tiger prawns and received 2 single prawns for £9 would have expected a little more. Steak was delicious, sides were not anything special. When asked if there was anything wrong with a side that had barely been touched I advised what I did not like about it and was told that was just the way they did them. Fine, however no need to ask if there was something wrong if you are not willing to do anything about it. Service was quite slow, sitting in the corner did not help as we were not offered a second drink once during the meal after receiving the first upon ordering the food.
Came here on a Friday night. Bill came to £300 inc service for two. We had 4 glasses of champagne, a couple of oysters, an onion soup and pork belly starter; main course we shared a 1kg porterhouse with a chips and mash; a £58 bottle of red wine; two desserts and two espresso martini.
The food was excellent, particularly the beef and chips.
The service was inconsistent, two out of the three waiters (believe one was a senior waiter) were excellent. But one waiter, although friendly made a few annoying mistakes: he took away my empty wine glass, which was clean and I hadn’t yet poured a glass of wine, he didn’t even replace the glass, so it was very bizarre, I had to ask another waiter for a replacement; the senior waiter basked is to take our time to decide on dessert and there was no time issue, the not so good waiter then came to us and asked us the table needed was reserved and if we wanted dessert we’d have to eat at the bar, so we asked for the bill at this point, but then I think he was told to tell us we could stay as long as we wanted.
Food was great. Quality meat but long wait for food considering we ordered steaks!
Good enough for business lunch but nothing special. Nice location and quiet ambience.
Great food. Lovely look and feel. Staff are friendly, cheeky, chatty. - made our group dining experience more fun.
Booked the table after seeing the restaurant on Master Chef and we were not disappointed. Friendly helpful staff, lovely wine and very tasty food. Will definitely go back
Had a lovely afternoon at the restaurant. Did not feel rushed or anything. Waiter answered all our questions and gave good advice about the food.
Having seen the restaurant on Celebrity Masterchef we were looking forward to the meal. Unfortunately it did not deliver. The starter of scallops was delicious but after that it went downhill. Do not order Fish Stew unless you want pan fried fish with a small amount of saffron coloured sauce on the bottom of the bowl. The lamb loin was not pink and the side dish arrived when the meal was over so more like a desert.
The waiting staff seemed not to know their jobs apart from making sure the glasses were filled even if only a sip had been taken. When the bill came they had charged for two bottles of wine and we only had one.
It was a shame as it is in a great location but I am sure they can improve if the staff were better trained.
I was not impressed at all by the food and its presentation. I would not suggest it and would not be back
Not bad place. But sort of average and overpriced
Very poor food. Week kitchen had a refund for Two meals (stake meals) We had been in London for a week this was our last night big disappointment worst meal in London we used tripadvisor great reviews???? If it dose not improve it wont be there long the staff and manager were great the Kitchen needs to be changed your food must improve or you will be another closeer fast sorry I dont normally wright reviews but so angry. Michael
We arrived late yet they did their best to find us a table, food was excellent as usual.
Delicious meal enjoyed by all -will definitely return and recommend to friends
On the whole the food was good although one of the steaks was slightly cold. Service was good also.
Another great visit here, have never been able to fault the steak or the service! Discovered the hot cookie-style dessert this time...wow! A must try if you are here!
Only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was that the music was far too loud.
Lovely food, although not as complex as I was expecting and the chicken was quite cool. Staff great, if a bit slow
I was excited to try the Coal Shed but was disappointed in the quality of the food. Beef croquettes were tasteless potatoes balls, the steaks were dry and lacking in flavour. The service was good and the sides fine but that isn’t enough to justify the price. Much better places elsewhere in the area
Food - prawns over-cooked; oysters not available; steaks of poor quality; food cold and sides served late; very small starter and side portions; some wines not available; can’t believe you had to pay extra for the sauces.
Service - extremely slow.
At least when we raised our concerns the manager adjusted our bill in an attempt to provide some recompense for our disappointment.
The restaurant was clearly not staffed to cater for the volume of bookings
Really great meal. We had filet, and it restored our faith in properly cooked steak! Gorgeous! We also had the truffle mac and cheese, which we thought was a good concept, but in the end we though it was overpowered with the taste. Normal mac and cheese would have hit the spot. Dessert was okay, but not on par with the main. Lovely servers, service, and ambiance. Lovely night. We'd go again.
Limited menu. Food arrived cold. Nothing to write home about - very mediocre. Ordered one soft drink and was charged for three. Overpriced for what it was. Not impressed.
This restaurant was even better the second time we went. The menu has improved and it is very convenient for the Bridge theatre, round the corner. We had a delicious lunch before the matinee
I picked the restaurant for lunch as it served steak and was near London Bridge. The place wasn't too busy and we were served quickly. The meal was for my husband's birthday as he wanted a grill/steak restaurant and it was perfect for him. He really enjoyed the food and would recommend the Jacob's ladder to start.
Food was good but service was slow. 20 minute wait for a pre booked table and then delays in being served by the waiters. Wine not topped up quickly. Overall disappointing
Very good service and food. Also the wine list has a great choice of wines. Just slightly frustrating when i booked a table they said the earliest time available for lunch was 1530hrs, we turned up early at 1445hrs and were shown straight to our table. Also we counted 7 tables available?
Very disappointing Sunday roast. Food was brought out on a sharing plate and potions were very small and the roast beef was average. With wine and dessert for 2 people the bill came to £100. Definitely not value for money.
Amazing amazing amazing x thank you for making my mums birthday so special
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner. The service was very good and the food excellent.
Good quality fresh food and ingredients although slightly disappointed with the overall experience. My misses ordered the fillet steak and I got the lamb, when they came out the lamb was cold. We also had to re ask then to get us our drinks we ordered, the starters came before the drinks. Just not what you expect really for the money you pay. Tables a bit cramped together as well, don’t really like to here the couple’s conversation next to us.
I’m general, it was Very good, but ended On a negative
The food was amazing, but the waiter was very unreasonable and uncooperative over the bill payment.
That alone would deter us from eating there again when there are so many restaurants in London at a similar level.
All round fantastic meal, however, the sides were a bit lackluster with very watery and under-seasoned spinach
Go early to this restaurant as we had a 7pm start and they still ran out of many of the items on the menu that we specifically went there for. Also our sides were not delivered until we finished the main meal. Manager was very apologetic and offered to remove them from the charge which we accepted as we did not eat them. Dessert choices not available but replacement was good.
As before, food, wine and value were excellent. Our main waiter was also excellent, and helped us choose the right wine for our food. As before though another (younger and perhaps less experienced) waiter came to remove my friend's main course plate while she was still eating her final mouthful of fish. He did ask "can I take this?" and my friend struggled to respond as her mouth was full. He had his hand on her plate at this point and she nodded that he could take it.
A nice meal at the Coal Shed this week... Somehow everything was just 'right'... Very rare a restaurant achieves this... And a serious big plus for me, you didn't feel like you were sitting in the lap of the people on the next table like you do in so many other restaurants these days! Great Job!
Nicely done roast beef and good veggie options. A nice touch that kids eat for free.
