The Coach and Horses on The Green has always been associated with travel and has been providing the families of Croxley Green with journeys since 1744. Whether enjoying lunch on the decking or a beer on the patio, dinner in the restaurant or a quiet pint in front of the fire, The Coach has something for everyone. The larger of the two pubs on the famous Green, it has been lovingly restored to former glories and enjoys an enormous outdoor seating play area for families where you can bask in the warmth of the friendly service. The food served is simple, tasty, hearty and nostalgic with an emphasis on sharing and there is a wonderful range of cask ales, continental beers and a fabulous wine list too.

Unfortunately we arrived on Sunday lunch and the restaurant had a table with lots of noisy children, we decided to leave, but this was no fault of the restaurant. Great pub for a drink and a noisy bite to eat, it is usually busy and noisy.

Frankly awful! I booked for a pre theatre meal for 5 people so timing was important, booked for 4:15 with the show starting at 7...plenty of time. To be clear the website stated that food was being served at this time. Arrived and stood waiting while the waiter tapped at his screen ignoring me for 5 minutes, a polite "excuse me" was met with a grunt then being shown to a table in the middle of the pub, I don't mind a pub at all, but when you have booked a table in a supposed restaurant (for your mum) you don't want to be sat in the middle of a drinking pub. However the restaurant bit appeared to be shut and grunting waiter said that was all that was available. The table was dirty, empty glasses that nobody seemed to care about and we was thrown three bits of a5 paper and told bar snacks is all we can have. At this point we left. Unfortunately the Artichoke (just down the road) was unable to accommodate us but they tried really hard and owing to their customer service approach I will definitely try them in the future. Ended up having a lovely if somewhat hasty meal in Buon Cibos (Station Rd, Rickmansworth) - I would recommend them as well. Coach and Horses? Never again.

We were hoping to to have a relaxed, celebratory meal but unfortunately it was not what was expected. We arrived on time to find our table still had glasses, etc. from the previous dinners still on it so had to wait for it to be cleared even though the entire pub was very quiet. I asked for a gluten free menu to be told they didn't have one but could do accommodate me....then the waiter walked off so I had to find the manager to go through the menu with him for options by the bar. The food service was very slow, especially given the restaurant was not busy & we then found one of the meals wasn't cooked properly. When we alerted the manager to this problem, he did provide us with another meal free-of-charge but by then we were a little unimpressed by the whole experience & didn't even bother having a pudding! Adding all these elements together, none of us would be rushing back there again, which is a shame and although it was not busy, it seems there were still not enough staff to cope.

Lovely service & friendly staff. The food overall was good, however the Hand Cut Chips tasted like cheap frozen chips & were dry . I was expecting 'proper chips' But we had a great evening & we would highly recommend to friends.

The last few times we have been, half the (already not extensive) menu has not been available. This time 5 of the 6 meals arrived, then came an apology for the mix up, but we were assured meal 6 would arrive shortly and we would not be charged for it. The other meals were finished and cleared away before we were advised that meal six was being plated up. It took a further 5 minutes to make its way to the table. As I don't eat dessert, I'd asked the others to order theirs and asked the waiter to serve the desserts with my main course as I didn't want to be eating on my own. This seemed to be too difficult to do, so I ate alone then sat and watched the others eat (again). The staff were apologetic and they did take my main course and the 2 desserts off the bill, however I have been disappointed by the coach and horses one too many times now. I very much doubt I will be returning and I certainly will not be recommending it.

1) The table was dirty resulting in my wife sleeve picking up old food stains 2) The majority of the menu wasn't available 3) The side order we asked for didn't arrive until we had already finishes our main course 4) We had to wait at least45 minutes for our food to arrive even though the pub wasn't busy. 5) We declined desert prefering to go up the road to the Artichoke where we were greeted by friendly staff who accommodated our party of 6 with desert menu even though it was nearly 10.00pm.

Very average food, waitress was pleasant, but when we complained to the manager because we believed we had been wrongly charged he was awkward, obstinate and rude. We won't be going back.

A very nice meal with friends, no pressure to order and waitress regularly checked on us. Lovely pub and food.
