The Clubhouse - Oak Brook Ratings and Reviews
This location is a favorite for all sorts of occasions, yet today not so much. We were disappointed that we were restricted to the less appealing first floor - unless we wanted to use the first floor restroom, which was closed for repairs. My guest was not impressed as a first-time visitor :-(
This is the best place for Sunday brunch. Various hot and cold breakfast and lunch entrees really fill you up. Nice addition is the prime rib or ham at the carving station. My favorites are the stone crab claws, vodka pasta and orange salmon while my husband likes the raw oysters and prime rib. The selection is extensive so impossible to not like. Desserts are small so try more than one kind.
Our server was friendly and he checked on us throughout our meal. Thank you. Restaurant is clean and tidy and the food stations are kept that way as well.
It had been quite some time since my last visit and, unfortunately, I found that The Clubhouse now believes that they are in the same league as Gibson's and Ruth's Chris. They are out of that league when you begin to compare menus (Clubhouse VERY limited), ambiance (poor restaurant design) and the food (good, but not in the ballpark with the others in the area). The only thing that resembled those others is the price tag at the end of the meal. Overall, the service was great (ask for Jody if you go), the food wasn't spectacular (which you get at higher end spots) and either lacked flavor or was too flavorful (Jambalaya was so spicy you couldn't taste anything in the dish after your first bite). I gave it a 3 overall, but if given the choice in the future to go here or another high end restaurant, I'd choose the latter because the food would be more representative of the sticker price.
The Clubhouse always offers a varied seasonal menu with good, fresh ingredients. The lobster bisque is outstanding. Having seating on various levels and separated areas keeps noise levels low. With regard to seating, I recommend that you do not opt for a booth if you have more than two people. Leg room is insufficient for tall folks in the booths. Becoming a member is a good value and points mount up quickly for free and tasty rewards!
We usually come to The Clubhouse a couple of times a year and on New Year's Day to celebrate with our friends. Initially, on this visit, the server seemed disappointed that we didn't want the buffet, and almost had an attitude about it, but eventually she came around and we left her a nice tip. The food was delicious, as always, and we will return.
We were disappointed with our brunch. Our server was wonderfully attentive, but the experience wasn't as great as we'd hoped. The food was mediocre: heavy with cold salads and cold seafood, creamed pasta, and chicken. Desserts looked better than they tasted. Our table was cramped, and one of our chairs was used to keep a door propped open.
It's been a few years since we visited The Clubhouse: it's still pricey, but its standards have fallen. I'm unlikely to return.
New Year's Day brunch here was the perfect start to the new 2018 year. From the cheery holiday décor to the sweet & savory gourmet recipes. We just about tried every dish on the buffets .... had we had more time, we would, for sure, had it all. So many favorites. Love that this restaurant has white table cloths- something you don't get much anymore- makes us feel special, also the occasion feels special. Our waiter/server, Andrew, could not have been more friendly, attentive and helpful ... a true gentleman.
Only hitch was, online reservation with OPEN TABLE, we requested a table for 2 seniors, close to the buffet for lesser steps. The Clubhouse hostess desks did NOT get that message. The hostess ushered us to the farthest room possible from the buffet. We told the host of our OPEN TABLE request for close seating and she quickly asked the hostess desk if there was a table available near the buffet. There was & so she turned us around & we paraded back to a table for 2 in the little balcony above the buffet area. That's great service, for sure & we thank the staff, so much.
Maybe The Clubhouse could look into the line of communications between what is typed online in OPEN TABLE and how it gets transferred onto the Hostess Desk reservation book? I feel certain this disconnect can be connected. It would surely help with people with special needs.
Will definitely return often. We highly recommend this Clubhouse and their brunch to all.
This restaurant consistently serves excellent food. The service is extremely efficient and the staff that delivers the food (busboys, not the waiters and waitresses), are very friendly. The hostesses and wait staff are efficient and courteous, but generally are not friendly. If you are looking for good food and efficient service, and you really don't care that there are few smiles, this is a great restaurant.
We loved the brunch. From the crab claws to the orange, basil salmon, to the pasta primavera, and the ham and omelet bar to the chocolate mousse cake & pecan pie bars it was a veritable feast! Our server, Jeannette was so very considerate and tended to our every need.
Poor service. Steaks were small(supposed to be 16 oz ribeye) but were barely 8-9 oz. poor value for HIGH price. Bread was smashed and COLD. like from another table. Plenty of empty seats and we were shoved next to a serving station. Brüssel sprouts had THYME on them and were hard. Blech. I asked for horseradish cream and got horseradish. Then second request had to wait and got sour cream with almost NO horseradish. Waitress brought a cookie with tiny 1 oz scoop of ice cream for birthday then charged us for it. She removed the charge but NOT the tax. Husband had wedge which came with NO bacon and they upcharged him $1.25 for a couple small chips of bacon. They USED to be good. Last two times we have been the food was not good and the prices have skyrocketed with much smaller portions. Sad. Very sad. We will NOT be back and I have gone there for over twenty years
I was delighted to see the Chicken Pot Pie back on the Menu. Unfortunately it was only making a guest appearance as a special. We had a delightful lunch with a great wait staff, delicious food and beautiful Christmas Decorations. The 15 month old with us had a wonderful time trying some new foods from his "Big Plate" The banana appetizer for him was a nice treat and it's definitely his new favor place to eat. The Shrimp Risotto and Raspberry Cheesecake were also a cut above. Parking can be a challenge, but Valet is also available. Treat yourself!
Restaurant was freezing on 12/26. Our young children and their grandmother had to keep their coats on. We asked to move to
a table away from the front door and was told no. Nobody was in restaurant. Greeter could not have been more unsympathetic or less accommodating.
Table server was great. Too bad our special night was memorable for the wrong reasons.
We were there for Christmas Brunch.
Overall the food was good. The desserts possibly had sat out too long or were under a
heat lamp as the top of most of the items were hard.
Also twice notified the restaurant that we had a birthday which our server maybe did not
know because nothing was done. Very disappointing. We of course could have reminded them but chose not too.
We enjoyed the buffet for Christmas Eve at The Clubhouse. They never disappoint. The food is always fabulous as is the service. The pasta station and carving station-with turkey, ham and prime rib were out of this world. The salads, cheeses, and fruits are always fresh. The desserts never disappoint. The chocolate fountain was a favorite of our 10 year old son. It was definitely worth the money.
