I regularly dine at the Clifton, it is one of the best of my favourite restaurants in London.
The food is excellent, the staff delightful and the experience always first class.
I love the Clifton as a pub which has fantastic decor and ambiance, is dog friendly but on this particular day the food was somewhat amiss.
Squid, bean entree wasn't particularly appetising. The butternut squash, spinach and feta parcel (main) just wasn't good, hardish bits of bland squash sat adjacent to plain spinach with a few bits of feta, felt like all of the ingredients sat apart from one another and were shoved into not quite cooked filo and served with a very odd curry sauce which again was unpalatable. The ingredients needed to be cooked off together in a feta/cheesy sauce, like a spinach feta pie. Crumbed haddock was a bit dry and I much prefer a thrice cooked chunky chip to a skinny fry! The mac'n cheese bites however were to die for...so not all bad.
We had a wonderful meal and experience. We noticed it was much louder than before, but I don’t know what you can do about it.
The best dining place in the Maida Vale/St Johns Wood area.
Always a good meal, excellent service and reasonably priced.
We went to The Clifton on a Thursday night for a quick birthday dinner as we have a little baby. And from the moment we arrived the staff member was so helpful and friendly. Made sure we were served quickly as with a baby you never have much time before they become restless. Brought a high chair over and even had a chat to our baby to keep him occupied. great pub!!!
As always this pub/restaurant is justifiably very busy.
The staff and food excellent.
A great venue.
Excellent service by superb and efficient staff.
The food is very good value and the experience a delight.
The Clifton's restaurant is an excellent place to dine.
The service is prompt and the staff attentive, pleasant and helpful.
The food is of a very high standard and very reasonably priced.
I highly recommend the Clifton as a first class place to meet, drink and dine.
The Clifton is a great neighbourhood pub. Extremely welcoming staff, a good selection of ales being swapped through, and really solid food.
Everything from delicious Sunday roasts through to light summer salads hit the spot.
Fantastic experience we’d recommend to anyone and will definitely go again!
The steaks we had were good. The service is a bit lacklustre and there is a problem with the sprung floor because every time anyone walks across it the floor bounces which is irritating.
Love The Clifton. Great staff, friendly vibe and generally delicious food.
Very friendly staff, warm local cibe
Service was excellent and the Sunday roasts good sizes
The Clifton is a good local pub serving food. There seems to be a small area to stand around the bar but in the main it is tables, many of which were turned over to diners early on the evening we visited (Friday evening). Our food was tasty and even without starters came promptly and definitely tasted like it had been freshly cooked. There were a couple of choices to satisfy the vegetarian community but probably a bit too much cheese for this vegetarian, although January is a tough month for us! The wine list was interesting and reasonable, the staff we dealt with helpful and efficient.
This is a great place, with a very good choice of veggie options. The food is very fresh and tasty, and healthy as well. We had a nice dinner; prices very reasonable too. This is a local place, so hardly any tourists which is reflected in the clientele and the choice. Would definitely recommend!!
The Clifton is an excellent neighbourhood place with a nice atmosphere.
Lovely place with really good food. So glad it reopened (and the food is much better than in its previous incarnation)
Good was amazing and the service was just as great!
Excellent friendly service. Food is very goodwith ample variety. Keep it going with local micro brewery options. Valuable addition to sjw
Six of us plus dog arrived at a very quiet, perhaps because empty, pub/restaurant. Service was prompt, friendly and not intrusive. The food was good - fresh and well-cooked - and imaginative enough (crab toast, oysters, chillied prawns) to lift it out of the pub meal stereotype. Oysters were fresh, risotto excellent, chips good, and all reasonably priced. The only slightly sour note was an overturned wine bucket which soaked one guest’s trousers - profuse apologies and towels were not accompanied, as they might have been, by a bill reduction which would have been reflected in a 4/5 star review
Amazing food, really good quality! The pub has a really nice atmosphere, it is quiet during the day but quite lively in the evenings. The landlords are friendly and make you feel welcomed, this pub has been a great discovery!
We went on Halloween night and it was very full but service was good . Loads of kids but left around 8 pm.
Great cheerful food !
It was our first time and my family and I enjoyed a lot. We will return!
I took a friend for lunch a couple of weeks ago and was impressed by the food so I booked a table for Saturday lunch with my wife. Unfortunately the usual menu was not on offer. A brunch menu took its place . There was no indication when booking that this brunch menu was all that was available. We left somewhat disappointed and found somewhere else. A real shame one can’t eat grown up food on a Saturday lunchtime at the Clifton. Having said that , I will return because the food is good , it will just be during the week rather than on a weekend.
Great food and wine . We live our friends get together here
Absolutely love this place. Just wish there were more vegetarian options!
Have been wanting to try this place for a while, having enjoyed places run by the same team in the past.
Very much a pub where the food is the focus, the menu is a smart mix of classics done cleverly and more inventive options that elevate the menu above pub grub. Lamb chop came with some fantastic seasonal accompaniments and ribs came with a gloriously sticky, complex sauce that is a cut above BBQ sauces elsewhere.
Also considering the quality of ingredients and cooking, the menu is good value.
The only tiny criticism would be that the layout feels very open and not particularly defined, meaning some tables feel like they’re a bit lost in space - but if you can book one of the better tables around the edge of the room, or in the conservatory, you wouldn’t have this problem.
Nice and spacious, great service, not enough vegetarian options
Catchup after a long time not seeing my friends great place to take your dog and to have a great lunch. Staff very nice and not too crowded with tables.
Neighbourhood gem - really interesting menu that will appeal to meat eaters, veggies and pescatarians. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and just overall great lunch/dinner spot with friends or family. Yes
Great food and amazing service, they accommodated all of our requests and were very nice and friendly. If I really have to find something, I'd say it's not the cheapest option (but it's worth the money) and the gravy was a bit watery for my taste, would have preferred a thicker gravy on a side. But, overall, really good, hope to be back soon!
