The Civic at the Broadview Hotel
The service was impeccable. Attentive yet not in the least intrusive. Warm, friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious and the portions generous.
The menu at this time was most limited so the restaurant was most kind to allow us to order from another menu as well. I believe for the future this will be corrected. I would not take children as there is not a friendly children’s menu nor someone with dairy or fish allergy.
The food was mediocre at best and the service was terrible
Was just ok for price paid. Selection limited. Service was great.
Overall good experience. Food was good but a bit
The room is beautiful and the service was good but the food was just horrible.
A bit noisy but the food and service were excellent! Love the renovations!
Wonderful brunch. I had French toast. Husband had Broadview Breakfast. Only issue is that French toast wasn’t filling enough. Next time I’ll order some amazing potatoes on the side!
We attended the Civic with friends and our 1.5 year old son.
The new menu is a lot better then the previous one. The men really enjoyed the classic breakfast with steak added.
The avocado toast was okay, could be a bit more flavorful, however, it is a big improvement from the last time I got it. -- Great that it now includes eggs and a side salad. Much better value.
Our server was also great, she was very interactive with our toddler and even made sure to bring him a muffin to enjoy while the rest of us were eating out breakfast.
Out of town guests
Everything was just what we had hoped for. The food was exceptional. Beautifully presented, fresh, delicious. The special little touches were wonderful. Offer of fresh truffles over the pasta? How often do you see that? And our server must have overheard mention of a birthday bc he brought out a lovely slice of cake with candle and six forks! So thoughtful. All the staff were well informed and made all a perfect evening.. We will definitely come again. A real pleasure!
Overall it was a good brunch. The menu is pretty small; and somewhat unique. This isn’t a breakfast for someone that is super hungry: you don’t get an over abundance of food.
I would return but only for a special occasion.
Brunch for 4 people came to $100.00 and we don’t consume and alcohol.
It was amazing, food serving are huge, server was nice and respectful!
We visited for Valentine's Day, we found the dining room setting of The Civic at the Broadview Hotel to be very beautiful. The wait staff was courteous although not overly attentive. We felt it a bit odd that no one offered to take our heavy winter jackets upon entering the dining room, we were left to wrestle with our large winter jackets on the banquette seat, though it appeared some fellow diners seemed to be sans jackets so perhaps they were offered assistance in that regard.
The food was well done, however the Valentine's Day prix fixe was of extremely poor value. A 3 course set menu comprised of starter/main/dessert that were of moderately sized dishes with smaller portioned and not extravagant proteins should not carry a $75 price tag. The value was closer to $35-40. I left hungry and in search of a post-meal meal. It would have been helpful to have been able to preview the Valentine's Day prix fixe online to pre-determine if it was worth taking on. Perhaps we wouldn't have decided to come in on that day. Not a terrible experience but also not the best of experiences either. We will try somewhere else next time.
Valentine’s Day - $75/head...I was just as hungry when I finished as when I walked in. Total rip off.
We booked The Civic for Valentin'es Day Breakfast. On the Open Table web-site, there was that option; however, when we arrived we were informed The Civic is only open for Brunch on weekends and for evening meals; thus we either had to leave or dine in the breakfast/lunch/coffee shop. It is nice but not what we were hoping for. Seems Open Table and Broadview Hotel need to ensure the dining offerings are synched. Quite disappointing
Love the feel, the service, in fact everything. Not the first time for lunch, not the last.
Nice brunch, cool vibe
The pasta dish we had was good. But the menu is very limited and way over priced.
Also, not sure where the mix up was; I had a booking with open table and a confirmation number. Once we got to the hotel we were told no reservation found. Sent us to the roof and nothjbg there. Went back down and we’re told “sorry yiu don’t have a reservation”. Showed the receptionist the confirmation number and insisted for them to honour it. Once they brought us in the Civic restaurant, there were a number of empty tables. Wasn’t impressed.
Also, never been to this hotel. When booking on open table we should be given the option to book either the roof top or the Civic. We would’ve much preferred the roof top.
Would recommend for something different we had a pleasant time but overall not worth repeat visits - for Sunday brunch:
- 20 minute wait for coffee (the reason - we’re making a new pot!)
- restricted menu
- had to keep searching for wait staff
- ‘borrowed’ salt and pepper from neighbouring table,
When I look this list over - it says ‘service needs improvements’
I was disappointed overall with brunch. The espresso was distinctly acidic and sour. Not pleasant at all. The French toast was overdone on the outsides, and the flavours were not great. I enjoyed the peanut flavours, but the grape compote was bitter and didn't go well with an otherwise sweet dish.
Mimosas were great, and the service was great, but the food was a huge let-down.
Food wasn’t as good as other times. The fish was dry but love the food normally. Great time.
Great place for brunch! Lots of bachelorette / bridal showers but still nice ambience
The food was not very hot, our waitress was a bit clumsy (stressed or new, don’t know..).
The location/ambiance was great. While none of the food was bad, there was nothing that I’d recommend to anyone or order again if I returned. Some great cocktails. Amazing desserts.
Design and decor is awesome. Service was amazing - very friendly, unpretentious staff and knowledgeable. Also, when you're finished dinner, you must go up to the 7th floor rooftop bar (indoors) for a cocktail. Great view and fun atmosphere (DJ after 10pm on Sat)
Lovely interior; great EastEnd vibe. Friendly staff.
I was expecting a new menu every month but was the exact same as in December. Good. Halibut was a bit dry but tasty.
We had a wonderful 50th birthday dinner for a family member here the other night, and everything was terrific! It was the first time many in out party had been to The Broadview Hotel, and they were thrilled with everything. Bree was a terrific server!
Great brunch all around in what is one of Toronto’s best looking rooms. Food is great, service is friendly and efficient!
Spectacular food, great experience
Never disappointed! I find any reason to go to The Broadview...rooftop, Civic or cafe...I love it all!
Food wasn’t worth the price. Restaurant itself is beautif
We were there for brunch. Service was impeccable. Our server was attentive, courteous and she did everything with a smile.
Setting was excellent for a few friends to catch up. Our coffee, tea, water were refilled often. Menu is small (e.g. only one type of bread!), small portion, with the expected price for the Leslieville/Queen East area.
We enjoyed the time spent at the Civic. Will return because of their great service, comfy seats with lots of elbow room.
Encrusted steak, trout, halibut cheeks are terrific
Great friendly service, great location. Good food. Brought an out of town guest who LOVED it. Thanks to Sara, Emma and Christine our servers.
Food is completely ordinary , nothing to rave about , slightly above short order quality at mid-range pricing. Server was amazing , friendly and very efficient . Decor is quite nice and fresh. Would not rush back as way too many other options in the city at similar price point with better food quality.
Excellent food and excellent service. The chef there is really hitting his mark!
Made reservations at the Civic Restaurant .
When we got the at the correct time the hostess said they were closing the Civic and we were seated in the Cafe at a table where one on us sat on a stool with no back. There were seats available in the Civic but we were not allowed to sit there even though we had reservations there. That was the only problem. Food was good.
