The Civic at the Broadview Hotel
Great food-could have a few more options. Outstanding service. Great vibe. Definitely a great brunch. Highest possible recommendation.
Food was excellent, we had the short ribs and you did not need a knife it was so tender and tasty.
Service was excellent, servers were attentive and polite. Would definitely go back
We had a celebration lunch for my brother’s 60th birthday. Went for the Winterlicious lunch and it was GREAT! An array of butternut squash soup, kale salad, pan fried salmon, melt in your mouth gnocchi and ...sticky toffee pudding!!
The service was attentive and the Civic Room is so well done, Eclectic, cozy and a respect for the past. They even added a candle to his dessert! Well done Kelly, our server.
Thanks for the great Winterlicious lunch! Service was very good, not rushed; food was hot & tasty. will definitely do a return visit in the summer!
We came for warly dinner and the ambience of the bistro was pleasant. The winterlicious menu is enticing, and the portion was great. The baguette that comes with the beef tartare was more of croutons consistency, which i wish it wasn’t. Other than that it was delicious. For the slow cooked beef short ribs, i could not really taste the red wine reduction. The short rib itself was very tender, it just lack taste a bit. The buttermilk panna cotta was refreshing and delicious. Overall, i am pleased with what i had.
Came to this place for winterlicious (dinner) and it was a total disappoint. I would really do not recommend this place to anybody.
It was almost $200 dinner (considering 53$ pp + beverages + gratuity + taxes) and the food was simply terrible: cold, salty, over cooked, Terrible!! I would say the soup was microwave re-heated.
Don't waste your money here please. We had a really bad experience and now reading the reviews I can see I am not the only one. Most of the people had similar experience.
It is a shame and I really hope they take this in consideration and try to make it better.
The service was the only good thing and the ambiance as well.
The food was bland. I've never spent so much on such boring meal.
Was there for Winterlicious and all the items were ate were delicious and the portions were great. My wife and I had a great time and highly recommend it.
We absolutely loved EVERYTHING that came out of that magical kitchen!!!!!! Winterlicious is a perfect opportunity to try places new to us. The mussels and fish were cooked to perfection ( aka not overcooked) and the short rib melted in my mouth .... awesomeness.....
6 of us enjoyed the prix fix. The food was sooooo good. The service was outstanding. They were amazing about accommodating two pregnant women’s dietary restrictions. They made beautiful mock tails!!! We had a great celebration.
Fantastic food, the service was amazing. Would absolutely dine here again and would also recommend to friends. The restaurant is very modern but has a nice cozy feel to it at the same time. Really enjoyed our experience!
We were disappointed that we could only order from the winterlicious menu and not the regular menu. We would have liked to order more apps for the table
A very satisfying experience - service was excellent, as was the food, though the portions could have been slightly larger. I hope to return there soon.
Beautiful place. It was Winterlicious so the food choices were limited. We couldn’t order off the regular menu
The Service was slow and did not like the bathrooms ever in the basement
Our server, Alex was amazing! Food was fantastic, and so was the wine. We didn’t feel rushed and enjoyed everything!
The food was not bad but nothing special. The presentation of the food far exceeded the taste. The potatoes were undercooked and all of the food was under seasoned. The service was good and although the space was nicely decorated, it is loud and lacks ambience.
It's a great place for drinks and apps. I would not recommend going for a main dish. Their mains are not worth the money, we were very disappointed in our mains.
The experience in dinning at Broadview Hotel was exceptional. The food was great. The service was great. Five Star all the way.Would highly recommend this hotel to friends We will be back on August 29th as my son has booked his wedding at this hotel. I hope the great experience continues. Thanks F&M
Great place. Nice venue, warm feel to the restaurant. Waiter was professional. Food tasted great however little on cold side. Good value all around.
Great winterlicious menu and service didn’t suffer because of it. Portions were smaller then the standard menu would be my only comment, but everything tasted delicious.
Our Winterlicious dinner was great 👍
Delicious beef tartare , short ribs , kale salad , gnocchi etc . Your chef is very talented!
Very nice service ! After dinner we went to Rooftop bar for drinks , I like your selection of beers and liqueurs . Nice place with a great view of the city . Very lively !
I also love your decor , somebody has a great taste . I will be back soon , maybe for Saturday brunch . Had a great time ! Thank you . See you soon 😃.
Thank you for the lovely feedback! Saturday brunch resumes following winterlicious on February 15th -- We hope to see you then. Kind regards, Sarah Ritchie Food & Beverage Manager
Place was way to Smokey. Something was wrong with their air circulation. It felt like you were standing right in front of a Smokey BBQ.
We ate in the bright room because we love how full of light this room is. Bottomless Mimosa was a hit and my fried chicken sandwich was delicious. Eve memorised all of our names and was a so attentive.
We had a great time, all 6 of us and did not have to worry about our food after we ordered. Perfect Sunday at 1pm. Good coffee, good food, good service, good friends.
Finally made it to the Broadview Hotel for brunch and will neither go back or recommend.
Had egg white and my child can make a better brunch.
The dining room was beautiful and the service was good. However, the food was less than average for brunch. The kale and chicken salad came with a processed type of chicken on top but the rest of the salad was acceptable. My friend's scrambled eggs were a florescent color and we didn't know why but she said they didn't taste right. The coffee was really good.
Thank you for the feedback! I'll pass your comments to the Chef. Worth noting: our chicken breast is sous vide. This method requires less oil, fat, or salt. The end result is more uniform in texture. We're sorry if it came across as processed. The eggs have no additional ingredients, other than salt & pepper. The color and taste can only be attributed to individual yolks. That said, we're glad you enjoyed the coffee and we hope you come back soon!
Fantastic food and exceptional customer service. Can’t wait to go back.
Everything was perfext. Only complaint was our waitress never ever smiled. It was so strange. She was attentive but she looked sooo miserable the whole time and literally never smiled once. Very strange. Everything else was spectacular.
Wonderful brunch. Great food and service! We will return!
Open table didn’t get the directions I left in the special occasion box?
They made us happy anyway
Very good food, wine and service. Ambiance is lovely - with tables far enough apart to make it comfortable - great place to meet and talk.
Brunch was good. Decor is fabulous. Some good drinks and great views in the upstairs bar.
The booking we made was in the Civic section of the hotel, but the staff called and said they were not opening that section of the hotel, so instead it was in the Bistro. But then it was too late to find an alternative bas most christmas dinner restaurants were now booked out.
It was very nice, but not what we thought when we booked.
The staff and food were excellent. We would have preferred the Civic section as it looked like a beautiful restaurant with beautiful ambiance. The Bistro was nice, but more casual that we wanted.
The service and server were great. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and comfortable. However, the portions are small and the food a little overpriced.
Very slow service. I had to constantly ask the server to top up my coffee and mimosas. If you didn’t ask, he wasn’t going to offer or bring it. Multiple times in his haste, he would bring the drinks over flowing and leaving you a mess to clean. Also, twice, I saw him be rude to his fellow female servers. It was awkward to say the least. He lacked tact - at 12:59pm, while we ordered more drinks, he mentions “did anyone tell you, you have to leave for 1pm?”. It left us completely confused and it was quite rude to be honest. He was our server, who else would have given us such warning? Not to mention the timing of his comment. As we continued our convo, we could HEAR ONLY a show going on, as a huge glad armour was blocking our section from seeing the show - from there our host mentioned if we wanted to stay, we would need to pay. Pay for what?!? We couldn’t see anything and we were still enjoying our drinks. What a way to tell your patrons to leave.
My higher ratings are for the food and the beautiful space.
We enjoyed our brunch. My (poached) eggs were overcooked, but other than that, a really lovely experience and would recommend.
Very nice, great service, good food. A little pricey.
The menu is varied and there were lots of dishes that I could choose from. Often when I go to brunch I'm not always thrilled with the menu options, but not here. I wanted to try a few dishes. I opted for the traditional eggs benny with salmon and a salad. They were cooked to perfection (not hard) and the bechamel sauce was not overwhelming or too much - just right and the salad dressing was not overpowering. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich with fries and that looked good too.
I thought the prices were reasonable considering the location and it's downtown Toronto. The ambience is ok - it was a bit loud for me (but not impossible to hear people talk).
The experience was completely horrendous. From the waiters physically touching my food to arguing with me about what proper etiquette is... this was a 1 star experience... at best! On top of everything it took 45 minutes just to get a drink. I’d recommend this restaurant as a comparison to McDonald’s or Burger King’s service. Enjoy if you want to eat at a restaurant that is constantly performing various health violations on their customers food and the waitress flipping you off as you walk out the door.
Furthermore, Ryan Campbell the manager, is completely incompetent and any disagreement with him will lead you to being escorted out of the restaurant. He has no experience in customer service and should be at a Fast food at best... zero communication skills, zero customer service and definitely do not comply with the food safety code of practice.
