The City Square Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
For my birthday, I decided that I wanted to try a restaurant that was new to us. After checking the reviews on open table and trip advisor, we decided to make the one hour drive to Wooster. After seeing the menu, and all the steak entrees listed, my husband was very happy. I chose a salmon selection. Both of our meals were generous in portions and very good. The service was outstanding; attentive, but not bothersome. It was noisy, but fortunately we were seated at a corner table so we were able to hear each other. I will recommend this restaurant to others, but only those who are meat lovers!
Each trip to Wooster we look forward to a City Square Steakhouse meal! We have been there now at least half a dozen times and have yet to be disappointed! The food is consistently delicious, the service is always spot on, and we simply enjoy the overall experience. See you soon City Square!
My wife have made Christmas Eve dinner at City Square a regular event for the past few years. Usually we have excellent service and great steaks. I was disappointed in my steak this year, seemed excessively fatty and tough. Reminded me of some I've had at Longhorn.
We'll go back again, was just disappointed this time.
We were meeting the parents of our engaged kids. Wanted a decent place that we could both get to easily. This came up recommended. In downtown Wooster so parking could be problem. Place is very nicely decorated with multiple rooms. Nice bar at entrance. Staff very attentive. Food well prepared. My blackened fish had a little too much pepper but very good. We were able to talk after dinner without any interruptions from staff and other diners.
Fun time. Good food. A bit too noisy, but perhaps that could not be avoided in this space. The staff were attentive enough, but could use more formal training if the restaurant wants to be taken seriously. The wine list was adequate but needs to be expanded. Overall a good experience.
Blend of quality and down-to earth. Steaks were delicious, service was excellent while neither ostentatious nor overly hipster, atmosphere reminded us of an old favorite place now gone from Cleveland's Ohio City, noise level was low, and they treated my wife kindly and respectfully for her birthday. We left committed to going back. That is rare for us. We value excellence within each style of restaurant: Its value must fit its advertising whether great burgers at a local joint, excellent tacos at a truck, or solid steaks at a nice establishment. This did a nice job.
Food arrived lukewarm. A filet mignon looked dead and did not arrive sizzling like most steak houses. The inside was rare versus the pink that was requested. A baked crusted walleye dinner was also limp and lukewarm with very little flavor. While we did have a late dinner reservation, the restaurant was nearly empty so there was no reason for the warmed over look and taste of the food.
We made reservations based on a friends recommendation on a Friday evening and had a great dining experience. We were seated immediately & served promptly by a courteous & efficient waiter. The food was out of this world delicious & we will be back.
We had the lobster tails for an appetizer & I had the roast chicken with sweet potatoes, and my husband had the pepper steak with the same & side salads. Everything was fabulous! Steak done perfectly medium & chicken just fell off the bone, so juicy & delicious!!!
Excellent service, even better food!!! They get 5 stars in our book.
I took a group of college students there and they raved that it was the best steaks they had ever had. The steaks were good but I was thrilled that they had a wine from a winery I went to in Italy and at a reasonable price. I've been there 5 times and have never had anything less than an excellent experience.
We went to celebrate a family occasion. Had grandparents and teenage children. Went on a late Sunday afternoon. The server was very cold to us...limited and expensive dinner menu. We were looking for something along the lines of a late lunch or light dinner given the timing. The food was very salty. I ordered ravioli - and there was no sauce..just stiff rubbery noodles. Needless to say, we were ready to leave when the check came. Won't be back!
I travel to Wooster frequently on business and dine here often. The City Square Steakhouse is consistently excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, without being intrusive and the food is outstanding. Great steaks and other selections with generous portions and a very nice presentation.
On this occasion, I had my wife traveling with me. We were seated at a table for two, next to the fireplace, which added to the cozy feel of the restaurant. My wife tried one of the house cocktails ( the "Blue 75") and said it was unique and delicious. The salads were fresh and crisp, my wife's steak was grilled to perfection and I had the Herb Crusted Lake Erie Walleye, which was superb.
In all, an excellent dining experience. Locals know about the City Square Steakhouse and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Wooster.
The City Square has always been a special event location for us, because while great quality the food and beverages are pricey. This past weekend our daughter was home from college and we had a rare opportunity to eat out as a whole family, so City Square it was :)
The staff are always amazing; attentive, friendly and good humored.
The salads, especially the Caesar with anchovies were delicious. The seafood bisque is always a favorite too and never is a disappointment.
The Filet was top notch as always, so two guests were quite satisfied, but my husband and I strayed from our usual staples of either steak or lamb and opted for the 'crab stuffed flounder' and the 'scallops with spicy pasta'.
The scallops were good but the spicy pasta did not pair well with the scallops and my husband for once did not finish his meal. The flounder was not a whole fish stuffed with crab as I would expect at such a quality establishment, instead it was two uneven pieces of flounder on top of each other with a rough spreading of what looked like crab paste in the middle. It was dry and curled at the corners and clearly overcooked. It didn't taste bad but it just did not impress me visually or otherwise. The asparagus I had to go with it was underdone, to the point of crunchy, this was probably caused by the vast variance in thickness of the stalks that were served on my plate. With no sauce served with either the fish or the asparagus, this only added to the dryness of the dish. My husband, who had not enjoyed his meal as much as he usually does, tried my meal and chose not to finish it for me. I took the fish home and the dog did enjoy it :)
As my ratings showed, we will come again, and we would recommend you to a friend and in fact we often do. However, we will stick to steak or lamb in the future and would recommend that others do the same.
Service was outstanding, dinner was excellent but best of all they really care about their customers. I requested a particular table because it was our anniversary and we had that table on the past anniversary. That table was ours. Those things are really appreciated. Many times customers are told "we can't guarantee requests." There is no question at City Square. Thank you !
Food was cooked the way we requested. Jackie(sp), our waitress was very funny, knowledgeable, friendly. All five meals came out together and all were cooked as we requested and warm. The calamari was tender as an appetizer, no overcooking "rubberiness". Enjoyed a great evening and meal!!!!! Thanks.
I will be back!
My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary a few days early. Glad we chose here. My husband enjoyed the rack of lamb--generous portion (unlike some restaurants that consider 3 ribs a portion) and cooked to perfection. He shared with me, so I know it tasted good too.
The ambience was enhanced by the original brick walls. We enjoyed our conversation without needing to raise our voices. We noticed several large groups enjoying their dining experience as well--in the restaurant and in the bar area.
We will definitely eat there again...when we cans find the time. Actually, I think we will need to make the time.
The City Square Steakhouse is without a doubt the best place to order steak in The City of Wooster. However, one thing I did not like was the Fillet Mignon's size was very small and i felt as if i was cheated out $30.00. The quality of the meat was exceptional and the sides were fantastic. I know Filleted steaks are not supposed to be large, however I feel the next time someone orders a fillet here they should be notified of the size before ordering. That was my only grievance with City Square and I would perhaps come here again in the future for a special occasion or what not. Plus I would like to see if this feedback is implemented so I may stop in sometime soon.
First time there. It was just my wife and I without the kids, which is rare. Overall experience was really good. I had the stuffed flounder with crab meet and it was very good. I also had bacon and jalapeño macaroni and cheese which was phenomenal. My wife enjoyed the cider sangria. Our only complaint in the food was that my wife asked for her steak to be cooked medium well and it was brought out closer to medium rare. We had soup and salad, so she was pretty full by that point and I ate the middle sections which were a little too rare for her so it wasn't a big deal. Service was very good even though it was the local homecoming night and the restaurant was pretty busy. All in all I would definitely recommend giving it a try.
City Square Steakhouse never disappoints - the atmosphere is wonderful, the food absolutely delicious, the service is excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly and the wine list was quite extensive. We were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary, and it was such a treat to enjoy a big city dining experience in a quaint small town. By far the best restaurant in Wooster
It's a shame as most of the dinner was great but in the end you go to a steak house for a steak. I ordered the NY Strip and was served what looked like and tasted like a $5 steak from the grocery store. The service was excellent the cheese plate was awesome but I would not go back. There are much better steakhouses around if I'm going to spend $30 on a steak.
Again, a fantastic experience coming from Cleveland area to have dinner with college daughter in Wooster. Fortunate to have Jackie again as well, although all the service staff were attentive. First time we (celiacs) could have broccoli cheddar soup in almost a decade. The pumpkin martini to finish off a great dinner was my idea of the best dessert. We will see you again.
This restaurant is truly amazing. And while the food is incredible - it's the service that stands out! We had a wonderfully attentive waiter (just the right amount of attentiveness). The teamwork amongst the staff is impeccable. They help each other out without anyone even asking for help. I've never had a bad experience here. We are truly lucky to have such a great dining option so close to home. Thank you!
Dining Room was Very Noisy and Unpleasant. The Menu was Very Good, but Extremely OVER PRICED AND EXPENSIVE. We used the Bar Menu which had a few choices. I had a Cheeseburger and Onion Rings which neither was Very good The burger was Very Greasy and as well as the Onion Rings. I have had much better meals of the same food at other Wooster Restaurants. The Reservation worked out well. I was charged $4.00 extra for the Onion Rings without notice over the included French fries.
I will not return here, nor recommend them to a friend. A Hugh Disappointment.
Only down fall to this place is the elbow room. I have been here many times but the food just keeps getting better. You pay for what you get. Steak is phenomenal . Money is no object . You barely touch your steak with your knife and it separates . Loved it. Will be back soon . Kudos to the waitress . On point .
The menu was full of exciting options with interesting blends of flavor. Both the server, Jacki and the food prep staff were readily knowledgable on many options for our Celiac family, some meat lovers and others vegetarians. As a vegetarian, it is assumed salad is our mainstay, but in this case the simplicity of local grown produce was mastered with delicious salad dressings. Fantastic! The entree presetnation was simple but the flavor was very vibrant and pleasing. My daughter and I had vegetable soup that was perfect and, thank goodness did not overcook the vegetables like most. The caprese salad was beautiful and tasted fresh, the Grouper was buttery and perfectly cooked matched with fresh ripe avocado and tomato. My husbands Ribeye was done to order and the smashed yukon golds with sour cream and chives could stand their own, quite possibly for a vegatarian choice paired with many other offerings. We appreciate CIty Square through the 5 years we have spent in Wooster, one graduated second is Class of 2016. We live in southern Cuyahoga county and will share our experience with those willing to take the drive.
