This is my first negative review on OpenTable. The Chumley House markets itself as an upscale elegant English establishment. We were expecting dark wood paneling and a formal atmosphere, but our party of three arrived on a Monday night to a very noisy restaurant. The music was so loud that other diners were screaming at each other to be heard. We asked them to turn it down, and they did. Our booth was so small it was difficult to get in and out. The wine list was poorly balanced, with a predominance, to put it mildly, of expensive wines. It's fine to have wines up to $6900 a bottle, but most restaurants have a reasonable choice of less costly alternatives. We ordered a Chablis at $100, but they were, of course, out of that, and the next Chablis on the list was $245. Other white Burgundies and west coast Chardonnays were even higher. The mostly younger crowd understandably was focused more on the cocktail menu. Our problem with the food was the poor correlation between what was described on the menu and what we actually were served. The appetizers were almost bizarre. The chef is quite imaginative, but the restaurant needs to work on more accurate descriptions of the dishes on the menu. The Beef Stroganoff had none of the promised pasta that one would expect, but had "pasta dumplings" instead. The side dishes were very limited, although there was a broccoli special that was unimpressive. The house specialty, the Beef Wellington, was magnificent. It is perfect in every way, and really is big enough for two people, unless you play on the TCU front line. Our total bill came to almost $800 with tip. We are used to paying several hundred dollars at a fine restaurant, but this was excessive for what we were served. If you try the Chumley House, I highly recommend skipping the appetizers and sides and just ordering the Beef Wellington along with wine by the glass. You will find the service to be first rate.

Grace was an awesome server. The ambience is great. And the food is outstanding. Had the lamb and surprisingly it was as good as the Greek restaurant Kokkari in SF. Which ifykyk is very high praise.

Food outstanding. Service excellent. Ambience and environment a little less so. Because of wood paneled walls and ceilings tiled with some sound-bouncing material, sound bounces around and it was VERY noisy and difficult to maintain a romantic conversation. Also, some seats are good/acceptable ... some not so much. We were initially put in a small 2-top next to the kitchen and a waitress stand, and in the path of all the server walking back and forth from the kitchen. We asked to be moved, which the restaurant politely accommodated. Also they only had 2 small single occupancy uni-sex toilets, with no indicator of occupancy. It took me three times of walking over to the toilets, each time having to push on the door to see if it was occupied, before I finally got in. For a restaurant seating roughly 150 people, this is really not acceptable. But, with those two exceptions, the experience was excellent. On a very positive note, the manager was very diligent about walking around to check on his customers ... he checked on us three times. Thus, considering everything, we are comfortable giving it an overall rating of 4.8 on a scale of 5.

Great bar with exceptional cocktails. Very comfortable yet still elegant dining room that serves a lot of classic inspired dishes that are cooked impeccably. Staff is professional, polite. And attentive. Great evening.

This was our fourth trip to Chumley House. It has become our favorite. We had a friend wth us who was not as appreciative of the restaurant as we were. He got some bones in his halibut. But, it was all still very good. We will be back.

One of the most outstanding restaurants we have experienced. The decor was beautiful, wonderful food and the staff was exceptional! We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and several people came to the table and congratulated us. You can tell that the staff is not only well trained but truly enjoy the diners they serve! We will definitely spread the word-it made our anniversary memorable!
