I absolutely loved the place.. Only thing I didn't like was the unisex restrooms... I only want to use a women's restroom...
We sat inside on our visit. The noise level was excessive, so much so that it negatively affected the entire experience.
I was there for a birthday and wrote ahead to have a desert w candle. Server mentioned they don’t provide that service. Definitely think it would be a bonus to do something special for birthdays enticing peps to visit for their birthday meals.
Mac and cheese was like Kraft MAC And cheese out of box. Crab was just tossed in top. Sent it back. Crab cake and coleslaw so salty I sent back and not great tasting. Fries were good. Husbands rock fish was ok. Very surprised as other restaurants’ food and quality is much better
Outside space is not clean and food was mediocre. Would not recommend — get better food and service at another Atlas location in the area instead !
Touristy trap, still working out the kinks with service. Half of the beers on draft were unavailable which the server didn't think to advise me until I had placed two drink orders. The oysters were disappointing -- both overpriced and not that fresh. In fact, they brought out one without an oyster in it -_-
Food was underwhelming. Wings extremely overcooked. Lobster roll, cheddar bay biscuits and crab cake sandwich all disappointing. Salmon too salty.
The Choptank is a refreshing addition to the Fell's
Point restaurant scene. The outdoor area is very inviting and a great place to meet friends for drinks.
The one downside for us was the loudness of the band who played inside the restaurant dinning room. We couldn't hear each other and had to shout to be heard. So we decided to forego our reservations and moved outdoors.
It is obvious that the Atlas group rushed to get this restaurant open.... The service was terrible. They were out of several drinks on the menu. The waiter didn’t know the menu at all; when asked for a recommendation for dessert he said “vanilla ice cream”. There was paper attached to my French fries; the waiters response was “that’s weird, we don’t use paper in our fries”... obviously. The crab cake sandwich was very tasty and a good value. Sitting inside was very loud and not conducive to conversation. With a better trained staff this restaurant will be much improved.
Food and service was very good
Still some kinks to work out. One of the first tables in the restaurant with about 20 employees standing around but no one would serve us because the server assigned to our section wasn’t there yet.
Very cool place...a lot of fun to have e the outdoor space and then also go inside to have a nice dinner. Food was excellent, service was good. I think the thing the ruined it for us was the bathroom situation. five single stalls for all of those people?!?! Poorly designed. The line was at least 15 people deep. And the bathrooms were gross on top of that...too many people. Not enough bathrooms!!
Couldn’t hear a word anyone else in our party was saying. Did not like the vibe at all. Very disappointed.
Since the previous reviews were glowing we double dated to check it out. The service was under whelming to say the least. We made reservations and upon our arrival we requested to sit in a booth since many were available. We were told we had to wait for one to be cleaned so we opted to wait. Still confused on the cleaning that was done because I had to clean the food off of the seat myself. We were seated and 15-20 minutes later the hostess visited to see if we had seen a server yet we advised we had not so she had to get us water and soon after we got a server. The server whispered and never elevated her voice so we could hear her. The men ordered Blue Moons which were served without an orange slice. When an orange slice was requested we were advised well they were not cut when you ordered not sure why that was appropriate or a proper response. The service is very odd because items are delivered not together to the table but one or two at a time. The food was tasty the table had oysters (fresh), wings (super hot), soup, fries (delicious), steak salad (filling), burger (delicious) and crab cake. The service and the management team need to spruce up the service and the double checking to confirm service is being delivered and to a decent standard. The bathroom require some work as well of the 4 gender neutral bathrooms many were out of toilet paper or paper towels when it is busy as it was on Saturday checks need to occur every hour.
Service needs to work out kinks. We waited a long time for food and between drink orders. The server seemingly forgot about us when we asked for the check. We waited 10-15 min for a check to arrive and only came after I went to the host stand to inquire. Then another 10+ min for staff to come and take our Payment method, and another 5 min after that to process. The place was not full inside or out, so it’s unclear what the holdups were. Staff could be more attentive and helpful. Food was fine.
Only 4 bathrooms total for the whole place...there was a 10 minute wait at any time just to go and then there was no soap in the bathroom once you finally got there. The food itself was good and decor was great.
I understand that they are working out their kinks, having opened very recently. The wait staff didn’t know the menu, had to get out crumbled piece of paper to remember the specials and what’s currently available. We waited 1 hour before food was served. Drinks were not mixed well. Food was bland and not seasoned. Crab cake had the consistency of wet breadcrumbs mixed with crab meat. Mussels and clams were still closed (which means dead). The ambience is the best part. But food and drinks were beyond disappointing.
Initially when the restaurant called to confirm the reservation they were rude on the phone. Multiple people called to confirm and when I said that someone had already called they said to me that nothing was documented and gave me attitude for it. It took a long time for our food to arrive and when it did the fried chicken was still raw in the middle. When we told our waitress, she just took the chicken and didn’t even apologize. I would not recommend this place to anyone and surely will not be returning.
This was my second visit. The first visit was on Saturday night and everything was perfect. Tuesday, however ,was not. It took our server over 20 minutes to acknowledge our table. When we finally ordered drinks and apps the drinks took over 20 minutes to be delivered. Our server didn't check to see how everything was. We flagged him down to order dinner. If not for the managers, we would have walked out. They took great care of us and were very attentive to our needs. We got a round of drinks on the house. I think The Choptank needs a few weeks to work out the kinks before I would recommend it to anyone.
Disappointing muscles. So much so I decided to pay and go elsewhere. Very touristy.
We went to Choptank on Sunday after their opening weekend and it was clear they are still working out some kinks. Took forever to get our first drinks (lost ticket) and the food was Ok, but not exceptional. They had a band that played one song while other music blared and then the band packed up, so that was weird.
Overall, ambiance was great and definitely a good place for a drink and some seafood pub food but the full dinner wasn't exceptional. Will go back but likely with a big group during the day. Far better than the previous set-up for this market space!
The restaurant was overall pleasant but the wait time for service was extremely long. They ran out of some of the foods we wanted to tried the crab cake and pork ribs. The ribs was a bit dry and burnt. We didn’t complain, we ate some and left the remaining on the table.
Opening weekend so did not expect perfection. Food was average, service was ok. They were busy as expected and everyone was hustling. Very loud, especially when the band started, it became impossible to talk inside once the live music began. Outdoor space and bar were awesome, will go back just for that area. BIG ISSUE, restaurant only has 4 unisex bathrooms, which led to huge back ups stretching down the hall of the restaurant and crowding tables. This seems like a major blunder that is sure to cause complaints and issues, 15-20 minute wait to use a bathroom.
Oops! We went on the second day they were open. Our fault! The food was good, but the service has some kinks to work out. Luckily, the manager comped a significant portion of our check. I would definitely give them time to iron things out, but I would go back and give them another chance.
Service was all right - it seemed like they were still getting into the groove of things with the new opening. However, for the money, the food was not that great - probably worth half of what we spent. We came with the intent of sitting outside not knowing that outdoor seating had a limited menu. Overall, it was all right, but we don’t think it was worth the money and wouldn’t come back for just dinner.
Slow service, loud music, not enough bathrooms, mixed up orders, Food just ok. Took a very long time to get a drink at the tables. Mac and cheese was tasty. Historic building was lovely and outdoor space was fun. Need to improve food and service. Nice attempt that bathrooms were unisex with “occupied” signs but need twice as many for the number of people there. There was quickly a line. Was only open a few days so hopefully they improve.
This was the second day they were open, so they were still working out the kinks. Service of the food & drinks was a bit slow, but the staff was trying. The crab cake sandwich was great along with the fries. The lobster salad sandwich@$29 was not that good & overpriced for the size. Would go back & try some other items.
Great overall impression! The soup I had was a little off, but the crab cake sandwich was one of the best I’ve had. It’s a beautiful space!
Crab cake was really good. Atmosphere is pretty cool. It being brand new means it will only get better and that’s really awesome.
We sat in the booth by the bar. We both ordered beers which took at least 15 minutes to get. Then we ordered calamari, cream of crab soup, ribs and half chicken. Calamari was good but not great. Soup was very very thick and just tasted like old bay. Ribs were ok. Sauce on ribs were good but the ribs were dry. They brought the soup and ribs out first, then 10 minutes later finally brought the half chicken. We ordered another round of beers which again took 15 minutes to get. The manager never came over to apologize for anything or to offer a free drink or something for the wait. Then the band came on and that place was so loud I couldn’t even hear my buddy next to me talk.
