The Chophouse on Bankhead
Always a great time, the Chef and his staff do a terrific job. We travel extensively and it is a great experience.
Delicious food. Knowledgeable server who was very patient and helpful. One of our favorite places to celebrate a special occasion.
Have been dining there since it opened. Always pleasant and great food. New menu items (post COVID?) add variety and are reasonably priced. The bar is also excellent!
A little disappointed from past experience. Skimpy on the elk meat in the stir fry. Seasonal greens was all that came with the grilled tuna. At least an acknowledgement of our special day as noted on our reservation and as I told our waitress would have been nice.
The food is great. The employees are attentive and helpful. The owner/Chef is onsite and always makes everyone feel like part of the family. Great place for special occasions and just a night out.
Wonderful service. High class and relaxed. Excellent food. Personal attention from the master chef. Stellar menu. Great wine selection.
The food was amazing as always and the service was the same. Best place for a little escape
My wife and I arrived a little early of our reservations but were graciously offered seating by hostess. Promptly our waitress arrived. Carly was outstanding in knowing the dishes, and with a fantastic personality. After orders to the bar, she helped lead us into a superb choice of appetizer in Ahi Tuna Salad. It was of large portion, even for two, and delightful to our taste.
For entree, I was undecided in choosing either Bangkok Stir Fry with marinated elk or perhaps one of the steaks offered. Disappointing news from kitchen was that they were out of elk. I was not in mood for the chicken option with the Stir Fry nor the baked potato with the steak dishes, so off to kitchen Carly went with idea. She quickly returned with the perfect solution from the Chef, Bangkok Stir Fry with Akaushi Ribeye as substitute for the elk. It was delicious. My wife had the Prime Filet and it too was delicious and cooked perfectly to her medium rare preference.
I might also compliment the bartender in making an excellent Woo Woo...so good, I had another. My wife and Carly's choice of wine proved point on to round off drinks. Other staff members were attentive, including occasional visits to table by Chef.
A perfect evening at The Chophouse on Bankhead with my beautiful wife of five years came to a close with a complimentary anniversary desert.
We celebrated our daughter’s graduation from college here. We were so impressed by how safe we felt to eat out for the first time in months. Great job! The food was delicious and the service was excellent!
Well, when a restaurant meets perfection, what else can you say. Our food was amazing. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. This is my favorite place to eat when I go visit my lakehouse on Lake Bob Sandlin.
The best steak I've had in ages. Noise level seems to be much improved, service was great. Great wine selection. They even accommodated the kids with a great burger and chicken strips. Our only wish was a greater selection of sides for the steak, otherwise, superb!
Excellent food and wonderful, personalized service from Chef Enam and lovely wife Karen!
Absolutely perfect! Our evening could not have been any better!!
We don’t often find a five star quality restaurant in a small east Texas town. This was our second time to dine at The Chophouse and loved it! Karly, our server was delightful and we enjoyed chatting and getting to know her.
I wasn’t impressed with the wine by the glass selections and the bread was served cold and wasn’t anything special. Otherwise, my wedge salad was so yummy and the prime filet was the best cut of steak I’ve had in a while and we live in the DFW area.
Consistently great food and service. We will definitely be back.
The steak was the best ever! The rest of the food was just as good. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is perfect for date night.
Highly recommend!!!! And will be going back!
Our first time and we specifically came for the saxophonist. We brought our hs son who plays the sax. Our meal was good our appetizers were delicious. The front was a little Chilly bc of the door opening when new customers arrive.
Our fav date night. Highly recommend the filet, though I’ve never had anything off the menu that’s less than incredible. Full bar, professional service, great atmosphere, happy hour menu is casual, affordable and legit. Go to the Chophouse, thank me later.
Excellent eating establishment. The owners came by the tables several time. The food was delicious.
Nice ambiance and food. A real find !
Experience was ok. Food was good. Waiter had to be asked twice for more water. This should not happen with the price range of the menu. I would recommend it for a special occasion.
+We so much enjoyed our dining experience at the Chophouse on Bankhead. The historic building has been brought back to life lovingly even as updates have been added...good atmosphere. We shared delicious salmon croquettes for an appetizer. My husband had steak and I had linguine with shrimp. Both were very good. We shared tiramisu and enjoyed this light, rich, and smooth dessert. Karen and Enam Chowdhury, as well as the waitstaff, made us feel comfortable and welcomed. We will visit again.
The experience at the restaurant was awesome. The food was cooked perfectly, ordered the prime rib and tuna salad. There was a parade outside that was wonderful to see in a small town setting. The drive from Mount Pleasant was a short distance, just enough time to listen to Christmas music while looking at the neighborhood lights. Thank y'all and Merry Christmas!!
It just keeps getting better at CHoB. Thanks, Chef.
It was wonderful. The crab cake appetizer was the best I’ve ever had!!
Chef Enam and the whole staff are amazing and the food was expertly and creatively prepared. Appropriate sized portions. Don't let "Chophouse" name fool you...This place is way better than just meat and potatoes. Tastiest.
The chef and owner at Chophouse has had excellent training in Switzerland and has worked in South Africa, Charleston, SC, and at The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas. He wanted a slower lifestyle and opened his restaurant on the square in Mt Vernon, TX. We had a pleasant, relaxed visit with him. The ambience is the best in the northeast Texas, the service was fine and the food was outstanding. There is a high quality menu, including Japanese beef. The prices were reasonable for the quality. I would recommend the Chophouse unreservedly for finer dining in northeast Texas.
We were eating a late meal and arrived at 8:30. Only one large table was finishing up and two other tables were left in restaurant. So plenty of tables to seat us at however the hostess walked us to the very front booth and it was dirty. looked around and most tables were dirty. So we asked for a clean table and she seemed shocked. Once seated waitress was quick to greet us and everything went smooth until our steaks came out and were way undercooked for a medium request. Remember we were the only table that had an order in the kitchen. All others had finished their meals and were leaving. Asked for one steak to be cooked more and was taken back and it returned within 2 mins. It was still the same on the inside only the outside was cooked more. So we just took it to go. The appetizers were good, salad & crab claws. The entree came with a baked potato but she did not ask if we liked "everything" on it. So none of us could eat the baked potato because it was sopped with sour cream which we don't like. The restaurant was very loud and as they were getting ready for the next day moving chairs around and setting up tables etc. was very disturbing. We left the restaurant by 9:45 not really that late but staff was making sure we new they were cleaning up even the kitchen was banging around etc. We are only in the area for the weekend so not sure we would go there again if in town.
The specials were perfection on a plate. We had crab cakes and crab claws for appetizers. So good! The wine was a great compliment to the seafood. Flounder with butter, lemon and capers on a bed of cauliflower mash. Finished with lava cake for dessert and left nothing on the plate. We were greeted by the owners and made to feel at home.
Wonderful place to dine and great food and service.
Service has improved a lot, food has always been great but it takes forever to get your meal. Some of the food should be hotter IMO, but didn’t change the flavor. Took ~45min to get our appetizer then dinner followed about ~20min later. Steak & lobster.
The food was top shelf. Every item we ordered was absolutely on the mark. They are slightly understaffed for service and although we didn’t wait as long, I noticed other diners waited a long time for their entrees. I would recommend this restaurant for its outstanding food and maybe go on a night other than Saturday to speed up the service.
Wonderful dining experience! Chef Enam and his team pay attention to every detail.
Enam was a gracious host. The entire meal was a wonderful experience.
We are from the greater Dallas area and always enjoy the experience at the Chophouse. The Chophouse has really lifted the social dinning experience in Mt. Vernon to a new level. We have also enjoyed the catering from the Chophouse at many friends and family events.
Love everything about this place and will be back tomorrow! The food was outstanding except for the desert. The coffee more than made up for it though! Excellent steak, salmon and pasta. The Chophouse is a spectacular find in a small quaint town.
Everything was great! The food was as good as anywhere and the wine selection was good and reasonably priced
It was great! Our server Wendy was fantastic and loved that the chef came to our table to chat and see how everything was!
Great place in Mt. Vernon, TX! Ribeye was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
This was our third time here and it did not disappoint. We have had a variety of the appetizers, salads, soups, mains, deserts, etc and have never been disappointed. Service has always been excellent as well, and Edith did a great job for us this time as well - she was very friendly, helpful, and professional.
