The Chophouse on Bankhead
Not up to our previous experience at this restaurant. Several dishes too heavily salted. Strip steak beyond expected Japanese genetics marbling. It was just plain fatty. Veal nicely flavored but very tough. At a price point of $650 for 8 people the experience should have been far different.
Great food and service, good conversation. We will be back.
From out of town looking for a decent meal. Tired of the bland Tex-mex, artery clogging fried catfish and fast food burgers. The meal and service was very good. The atmosphere was inviting. Had the ribeye steak. A gem of a restaurant I highly suggest trying out. Definitely worth the drive from Mt. Pleasant.
The food was fantastic! We both had pasta dishes and they were amazing. The truffle cream sauce was to die for.
Everything was impeccable! From the service, the food, atmosphere and environment- everything was perfect! The staff was very friendly and immediately made you feel welcome! We were visited by the head chef and owner several times throughout the evening and the waiters were very attentive. Food was fantastic! I would definitely recommend for a romantic evening or delicious fine dining!
As always The Chophouse was exceptional! Chef and his staff go above and beyond to make the dining experience fantastic and the food is delicious! Chef is always coming around to make sure that the food is what you want. We feel like family when we are here!
With the caveat that the atmosphere is great but food only a notch above Chili's but at about 3 times the price. Service is good, owners very friendly and attentive. Located in very small town, owners and chef probably do not have urban restaurant experience.
Great dinner, we couldn’t of asked for anything else!
Wonderful! We loved it! The food and service is outstanding!
Excellent service. Salmon was delicious!
Fantastic food and great service! Enom makes you feel right at home and the steaks are amazing! Thanks chophouse!
This was our second time at the Chophouse and we brought neighbors to make a party of eight.
Extremely disapppointed this time. Something was very off.
Reservation was at 6;30 pm and at 8:30 pm our food was not prepared.
No explanation - no appology.
We made the most of it. The Chophouse has to deliver a consistent high level dining expereince to win back our party.
We finally had to try the restaurant, plus someone had given us a coupon due to the high price of meals. Waitress said "The Special" was a "bone in rib-eye", thought it sounded good, figured it would be comparable to their $38 filet. I ordered medium done, my wife had a Linguine with shrimp, which ended up being okay. My steak was not as expected. LOOKED fine when presented, I started cutting into it, and found a bloody gooey mess, I was able to eat MAYBE 2 ounces of the maybe 5 ounce total piece of meat. Green beans were not even cooked, hard as a rock. Baked potato was good, they did put SOME sour cream and cheese on it. I had to track down the waitress for some pepper to put on it, to eat it. When the waitress came to take the plates away, she asked what we thought of it, I told her "to look at it, the bloody mess of meat left and raw green beans", she simply giggled and walked away. Came time for the bill, their "SPECIAL" turned out to be SIXTY dollars, for a bloody piece of tiny meat! Disgusting. We will NEVER return to this Chop House. We will return to Poco de Cho in the Dallas area, when we want "Fine dining", and to spend over a hundred dollars for dinner. We STILL don't have any fine dining in Mount Vernon TX. Too bad really, we have restaurants continually come and go on our downtown square, I guess they can't figure out that people won't return to being treated like this and serving sub par food. They also serve "Japanese Beef", WHAT happened to patronizing our LOCAL Beef ranchers IN Texas instead of importing it?? MUCH better steaks in local restaurants, and it's local and cheaper.
Enjoyed another incredible meal at the Chophouse tonight. Chef and his staff made our family of five comfortable from arrival to dessert. Short ribs, house-made linguini and carrot cake were standouts. And the off menu lamb was a welcome and delicious surprise. Wait staff was attentive, knowledgeable and excelled at making two adults and three kids feel at ease. Great and reasonably priced wine list didn’t hurt, either. Outstanding and we will be back. Thanks chef and team.
Food lukewarm ask for a salad with meal and was told NO SUBSTITUTES!! But when we received our steak we had INSTANT POTATOES (salty) instead of a BAKE POTATO AND was told they had no bake potatoes. What about NO SUBSTITUTE?? But by the end of our course some customers were getting Bake Potatoes. I guess it depends on who you are. But remember customer should all be treated the same and important!!
Great chef and staff. The owners are very friendly and make you feel at home. We will definitely go back. Excellent food and Great atmosphere in a beautiful historic building .
The Chowhurdy's are awesome people and hosts! Always fun to go there!!
I ordered the Seafood Napoleon; the salmon was undercooked and the crab was a bit too fishy. The sushi rice and ponzu were good enough. Another ordered filet; that was decent. And the short ribs appetizer was okay.
Another person at our table ordered the ribeye steak. It was the worst steak ever. It was supposed to be 12-14 ounces; honestly, only about 4 ounces of it was edible, although it was cooked rare rather than medium as ordered. The rest was blubber. It was very greasy as well. The steaks came with baked potato and seasonal veggies, but the “all the way” option for the potato was scant...if you’re going to skimp, I don’t think potato toppings are where you should do it. Also, the veggies consisted of exactly 2 asparagus spears.
Another person at the table ordered the linguini with truffle cream sauce. It was no different than any basic Alfredo sauce.
For the high dollar menu prices and the featured ingredients they boasted of, none of the food was better than cooking at home with basic choices from the grocery store. Even the dinner rolls were boring - I’ve had better frozen rolls baked at home.
I brought the pile of steak blubber up to the sous chef to show her the garbage she served us. She comped us the steak, but we won’t be back. It just isn’t worth the price...at all. Without the steak, our bill was $165.00 for 4 people. The beers were $5 and the cocktails were $10 each!
Our server, on the other hand, was friendly, helpful and funny; the only thing worth starring on this review.
Food was good, rolls were disappointing and meal on the pricey side.
Great food,Great bar, Great patio
Great food and great service!!! We were welcomed from the time we arrived until we left. You not only have amazing food, but you have created an atmosphere that's very inviting to all patrons.
Simply Amazing. Would be a complete 5-Start Restaurant if was in a more "formal" setting, however, the fact that it IS 5-Star food and service in a casual setting makes it much more enjoyable for me to go on a more regular basis. I stop in "as is" and am treated like a king!
We had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic and meeting the chef was great. He was such a great host. We can not wait to go back.
Visited this new Mt. Vernon restaurant and thought it was awesome! Would have given it a 5 star rating except my baked potato was lukewarm. The rest of the meal was outstanding. All six of us had the ribeye and everyone thought it was delicious and cooked as requested. Two had the wedge salad and two others had the Caesar salad and both were very good. Greens were crisp dressings were all very good. Their wine list was surprisingly extensive with very good selections. Worth a drive over to visit!
Great food and great wine !! Bone in filet was over the top !! A little pricy but really good!!
The Chophouse keeps getting better and better. They brought back a favorite, chicken tortilla soup, and it did not disappoint! The chef and his wife came around to check on our table. They don't have a kids menu but the chef can fix up many things to satisfy the picky little ones (chicken tenders with french fries satisfied our kiddos). Service was prompt and on point, the wine was excellent and fairly priced, and the steaks were great. One was over done but they promptly took it back with no qualms and within minutes had a replacement steak that was cooked perfectly. Highly recommended!
We chose the Chophouse to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary and it was a great choice. The service was fantastic and we really enjoyed the personal attention and recommendations of the chef. Food was excellent with a good wine selection. We'll definitely return.
Owner fully plugged in to make your experience fantastic!
We love this restaurant! It is so worth the drive from the Dallas area with either the highway or scenic country roads. The Chef is superb and the waitstaff is excellent and the food is divine! It’s just like being among good friends!
These folks do their best to make your food experience extraordinary.
The overall experience was fine, but not overwhelming.
Service was above average.
Meal was average - at best, dull and flavorless.
I ordered the one item from the menu they could not provide and the waiter should have told us prior to order.
If I happened to be in Mt. Vernon I might eat there again, but I would not travel to eat there, that's a certainty.
The food was not good, not a bit of seasoning on a expensive undercooked steak. Whit Russian drink was the worst one I had. My husband's food was way too salty. The unsweet tea was a spiced tea, not good for a man who is just a regular tea man. There were no condiments on the table which I could have used on my food. Overall when you spend that much money on a dinner you expect it to be worth the price.
Excellent Food and Service. This was our 4th time in 3 months. Always excellent
Enam, you rocked it!! Food was fabulous, wine spectacular. Everything about the evening was fab!! Hope you stay in Mt. Vernon for a very long while! Your friends from Big D!
Enam and his crew have done a wonderful job. This is the third time we have eaten at the Chophouse on Bankhead. The waitress was exceptionally knowledgeable. The food came out on time and perfect. Enam and Karen are great friends of ours, and we wish them the best of luck.
Nice attention from the owner/chef. The fresh vegetables and dessert were the best! We had the chocolate soufflé- wow.
Party of two; we had the special, The Tomahawk. The steak was very tender and tasted great. Key lime pie was also some of the best we have eaten anywhere. The music was nice and gentle so talking was easy. The service was fabulous. Food, more than enough, and service are worth the price paid. Enjoy your meal.
This place is a real gem! Wonderful food and service. The owners circulate among the diners making you feel appreciated for choosing them. We have been there now 3 times and every time was excellent. We can't rave enough about this find!
