The Chop House at The Equinox Resort
They sat me and my wife at 9:00 for our 8:30pm reservation. The hostess would come back to her post every 10 mins and say they are getting the table ready and then would disappear. We were seated next to a obnoxious bachelorette party who had no self awareness that this was an upscale restaurant, as they viewed their tik tok videos on full volume annoying everyone in the place. Maybe seat them in the private dining area in the back, not in the middle of everyone?
Our steaks were ordered medium but were still mooing when they got to our table. Didn’t get my Diet Coke but no biggie there. My wife actually got up to talk to the hostess/mgr during dinner to see if they could quiet down the bachelorette group but nothing was done. They comped our cappuccinos but it didn’t make up for a subpar experience.
The food and service was very good, great spot. There were some service issues and they were not consistent in how they treated each table. The big problem here was not the food or service but the 10 top of screaming women at the other end of the restaurant. 2 tables left and everyone else was not happy. Ruined what would have otherwise been a great meal.
The food was excellent and the wait staff was exceptional.
on the who it really isnt worth trying to go out to a high end type restaurant in this areas. prices are similar to big city dining but the food is ofter pretty average. that was true for chop hoiuse as well. very expensive for pretty small portions. the sides were not very good...bordering on cafeteria dining. steaks are the main dish here but we found them to be small and pretty tough. even my daughter coldnt get through a filet mignon as was tough and fatty. people nice and doing their best but honestly just not worth it
Nice evening. Great steak
Food was excellent. The service was slow.
Very good steak and service.
The scallops were cooked perfectly but the Ribeye cut was inferior and cooked unevenly. Service from Raymond and Sam was exceptional as they had to move us away from a loud party. They were very attentive to our needs but the overall experience was sub par especially for the price.
Great food, service and ambiance
The meals were incredible. The service was outstanding. It is just a little peculiar to walk through one restaurant to get to another.
At these prices they should be able to cook a better steak.
It was pretty good and service was nice
My wife and I went to the Chop House for our 1 year Anniversary dinner (we stayed at The Equinox). We had a reservation for 815, and got in about that time. Needless to say, the only reason they got 3 stars is because the food was great. The service was extremely slow. We waited about 1 1/2 hours to get our main meal. We might have gotten our app within the first 30 minutes of sitting down. The prices were too high for my taste. I think that paying $12 for a side is ludacris. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant or go back.
Beautiful intimate restaurant but the food was way overpriced for the quality. The service was exceptionally slow. It felt as though a different person was coming to our table each time. Although everyone was friendly and apologetic for the service, no one had a reason to explain if it was normal. Being our first experience we won’t be going back. Food was served luke warm without proper seasoning. Absolutely mediocre at best.
My steak arrived cool on a warm plate. It was cooked to order, rare, but the steak, the Prime New York Strip, was quite tough. I ate not even half of it. It was far from prime quality. It was also far from being worth the $53 price tag. My husband ordered an end cut of the prime rib, and was assured it would be served au jus. His cut of beef was quite dry. We also ordered a baked potato, which arrived quite overdone, the bottom of which was black, and the potato itself was dry and hard. On a positive note, the service was wonderful. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She was quite distressed when we described our unhappiness with the food. She kindly adjusted our bill so we didn't pay for the tough steak or overcooked baked potato. I'm sorry to say that the best part of the meal were the wonderful, homemade potato rolls.
Great meal and excellent service
Food was excellent. Mary Beth, our server, was extremely friendly and professional! Highly recommend - but not inexpensive. Loved it all!!!
Beautiful ambiance and terrific food
First time that the service was slow and that the food was not superb. I hope it was just a fluke. Prime rib eye steak ($59) was 40% inedible (and uncutable with steak knife), baked potato was not cooked through and had been sitting in a warmer ($12.00), roasted cauliflower had a sauce like craft mac & cheese and was not hot ($12). We hope the service and food will get back to the old high levels we are used too.
Judging by the combination of a line at the front desk and a lot of empty tables, the restaurant was understaffed for a holiday weekend. Which leads me to suspect that the woman manning the front desk was not one of the typical hosts. To be blunt, she shouldn't be. We waited 10+ minutes to even get the chance to say that we had a reservation, as the host stand was empty. Ultimately, our server (Chris) was pleasant and competent, but the food was only adequate, which makes it wildly overpriced.
Strip steak was the best ever. Food, ambiance and service was impeccable!
Overpriced lousy cut of meats
We were guests at The Equinox, where The Chop House is located. It was the last night of our stay and we were saving The Chop House for last so that we ended our trip with a special meal.
Our server, Chris, was warm and friendly and he did his polite best to hold the meal together.
My partner and I each had the Lobster Bisque which was ok. Not bad, but adequate. Next, we had been encouraged to order the selections of Wagyu beef cuts that were on the menu, but neither I nor my partner chose to do so. I ordered a New York Strip (Medium) and he ordered a Rib Eye (Medium). His steak came out fine, not perfectly cooked but close and edible. His side of Lobster Mac and Cheese was adequate and my house made mashed potatoes were good. My steak came out “still alive.” Aside from about 1/4 of a inch around the outside, the steak was blood rare, so raw that it was almost impossible to cut through it with a knife. Chris, the waiter, offered to have it “brought up” aka re-fired. So while my steak was whisked away, my partner was still able to eat his meal and I picked at my mashed potatoes as they were quickly getting cold. My steak returned several minutes later and much to our surprise, while sections of the outside were charred black, when I cut the steak in half it was still blood rare in the center. Save for about six small pieces I was able to cut from the edges, sadly that was all of the steak I was about to eat. I wondered if I HAD ordered the Wagyu, if it would have turned out differently.
Chris removed the steak from our bill. Just 10 minutes before, the patron to our left also had to send his wife’s steak back and had it removed from the bill. The ONLY thing that saved this meal from getting zero or one star was the dessert. He had coconut rice pudding and I had a Meyer Lemon Semi-freddo. Both dishes were outstanding and managed to end what had been an unfortunate meal, on a high note. Maybe it was a new cook or just an off night but we were very disappointed.
Service was great. Appetizers were good, but the ribeye was very bland, tough, undercooked and smelled like raw meat.
For the price of the individual items, we should have received a much better meal. Everything you get, you pay for, including the dinner rolls. We ordered crab legs as an appetizer, some were warm and some were cold. When you order a steak, that is what you get - a steak. Everything is additional and all side items are twelve dollars, that included the cost of the dinner rolls - that's $3.oo a roll. We got steak fries and they were overcooked. The steaks were prepared well and our waitress was friendly and informative on how to have the meat cooked. I don't think we would eat there again.
The food wasn’t good
The steak had no flavor
And the service although very nice was very hard to find
Overall we were really looking forward to it but we were very disappointed.
Although this restaurant is somewhat pricey, that is to be expected in a fancy resort such as The Equinox. We had a very well informed, enthusiastic waiter. My wife ordered the prime rib and felt that it lacked flavor. There was no au jus when the food was served and the au jus that was brought out was disappointing. I ordered the ribeye steak and it was prepared perfectly. The disappointment was the accompanying whipped potatoes. The potatoes had an odd flavor and were served at room temperature. the grilled corn was served piping hot and was very flavorable. We also tried out the Parker rolls(which I had never tasted). These were delightful. One feature we enjoyed was the three unique table salts that were on the table. A smoky Mediterranean sea salt, a Hawaiian red salt(delicious and powerful) and a coarse sea salt. Each of these was very enjoyable and added to the dining experience.
When you go to a steakhouse you expect to have the steak cooked to your liking. Dont go here for that.
I wasn’t impressed. My friend’s prime rib was a little overdone. My NY strip was a bit bland and not well trimmed. For the price of this restaurant, I was not impressed.
My sister and I spent a few days at The Equinox and our last night on site, we thought we'd treat ourselves to a nice dinner at The Chop House. The first issue was that hostess couldn't find our reservation on her IPad and after a few minutes of looking, she disappeared and left us standing at the Hostess station. Eventually, a young server came over and found the reservation immediately. Maybe more IPad training was in order for the Hostess. We were seated in back room away from the main dining area. That was fine, we thought we'd at least be able to hear each other speak. Wrong. The parties just outside our doorway were loud and boisterous. Finally, someone from another party in our room got up and closed the doors that separated the rooms. We had a lovely server and the menu looked great, but we opted for something on the lighter side.. a shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque and a glass of wine... saving room for dessert. The shrimp were very good.. (we did over do it with the fresh horseradish, but our server refilled the ketchup portion to smooth it out).. The bisque was presented in a cast iron kettle.. very unique presentation... but the bisque itself was just so-so. On to the dessert.. coconut rice pudding was a huge disappointment and sent back.. the rice was actually still raw.. crunchy.. ugh! My sister ordered the apple tart and vanilla ice cream, the ice cream clearly had melted at one time and re-frozen. The server removed both desserts from our bill, but this meal and 3 glasses of wine came to over $150. before tip.
Service was good. Food was not very good for the price and expectation.
Elegant and innovative, delicious! Very wonderful staff! Great wine list. Presentation was beautiful!
the service was impeccable, the food exquisitely prepared and plated. the special delivery and service was very very personable and friendly. an excellent place to go for that special occassion.
Keep the food quality up.
Service gets slow when busy.
Our Kansas City Chop was a bit tough for my husband’s liking. But it was a lovely dinner overall.
Great service but I was very dissatisfied with the quality vs the cost. I’ve had far better meals for a fraction of the price. I realize there are heavy overhead costs associated with running a place like this and that’s fine but then deliver on the quality. We won’t be back.
Service was excellent and food wa absolutely delicious. It’s not a cheap meal but it was worth it.
Excellent service. Chris was professional, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. However, my ribeye ordered medium, was over cooked and very tough. Prime steaks should never be tough. For these prices, food quality should be exceptional.
The food at the Equinox is wonderful. The Chop House experience was truly remarkable and many cuts above other high end steak houses we have experienced. The food quality is beyond compare. The drinks are marvelous and the staff are attentive but not obtrusive.
Dinner while traveling. The place is beautiful & comfortable. Service was top notch. Food did not measure up to the quality you would expect in a place named the Chop House.
