The Chew Chew Ratings and Reviews
Love the Chew Chew....it is a restaurant worth driving to and it is a neighborhood gem as well. Went for the Mardi Gras menu this weekend and was not disappointed with the food!!!!! What a treat to eat. Service by the owner, Scott was more than we could ask for as he got us a perfect table because we had an 8month old with us....it is a kid friendly place to eat as well. Saw quite a few families enjoying their meals. Great decor and fun for Mardi Gras as the wait staff were dressed in costumes handing out beads. Go there you will not be disappointed.
This was our first visit to The Chew Chew and we will be going back. From the oysters to herbed chicken and penne pasta and then ending with an absolutely delicious key lime pie, there was nothing about this meal that we didn't like! The server was polite and attentive. Love this restaurant.
We enjoyed our Saturday night dinner at the Chew Chew. The food was very good and the service was just fine. Since we are return diners we knew that they made great cocktails. Both of us had special dishes that were delicious. My husband had the Pot Pie and I had the Surf and Turf. Additionally, we had a scoop of gelato for dessert.
We love having a local place to take the whole family to. The specials are always worth trying and some of the staples on the menu keep us coming back.
While they do offer a Kids Menu, on a quieter night, we feel guilty about bringing the kids but on a busy Friday night, we have no worries. Kids menu offers a good variety, but we'd love to see salmon added. Also note drinks are not included, some places do this and some do not.
Really nice menu and the food is wonderful. Can't say enough about the service. Friendly, knowledgeable and just plain attentive but not annoying. Really enjoy going there. If you have a Groupon the deal is amazing. Worth the trip to give it a try. It is truly a neighborhood gem!!!!
We have now eaten at the restaurant twice and both times had the same experience. We made a reservation for dinner both times and both times had to wait for a table. Not that we minded waiting for a few minutes for a table but both times we were sat in the overflow section. Not to mention that the over flow section is up 2 flights of stairs! No where when I was making reservations did it say anything about stairs. I have never been to a restaurant who did not offer an elevator to get the third floor. Now to mention I was at dinner with someone who was handicapped and had a hard time walking up the stairs. The first time we were there we made the track up the stairs only to find out we were the only ones sitting up there. Not to mention the only way to get our food and dishes up and down was the main staircase ! So the second time when we got their we told the host that we did not want to sit upstairs. He told us to wait a few minutes. He then grabbed menus and told us to follow him and guess where he headed! Upstairs! I mean last time was very difficult for my father to go up and then down. So what did the host do? He sat us in the bar like we walked in off the street. I am so disappointed in the way the host treated us. This restaurant has very poor floor management. The food was decent and the waiter was nice although he was flustered and overworked working the entire main floor. Over all I will most likely never come back.
I always look forward to special planned occasions at The Chew Chew, but also enjoy stopping in as a spur of the moment treat. I prefer earlier hours, so do not
visit as often as I wish. I had breast of duck over a cherry sauce (with lovely cherries) that was cooked to a perfect medium to medium rare with grilled asparagus and buttermilk mashed potatoes.
Yum! My friend had a Shrimp Cobb Salad she really enjoyed. (I have had it and will again). Marvelous specialty whipped butter and great bread added to the delight. Raspberry cheesecake topped off this special birthday occasion!
(Complete with a candle!). Already looking forward to the next time. Sure wish they were open earlier.
This was our second or third visit to The Chew Chew and it continues to impress. We ordered from both the regular and daily specials menus and enjoyed it all. My Wife's Cauliflower Burrito Bowl lived up to the reviews - so much flavor packed in that bowl! It was a busy night and we had to wait a few minutes for our table, but once seated, we never felt rushed and service was attentive and helpful. This is a gem in Riverside!
Arrived early for our reservation and were seated right away. Server was there immediately with water and chit chat. Enjoyed the burrata appetizer- nicely plated with contrasts of acid and creamy cheese. Husband had the surf and turf special with a rib eye and scallops - he liked it. I had scallops and risotto-creamy and flavorful. Wine selection was a little limited but we found a pinot noir that we enjoyed. Located in quaint downtown Riverside area -beautiful street decorated for the holidays. Had purchased a Groupon and used it without problems. Would likely return if in the area.
The Chew-Chew is truly a "neighborhood gem." The menu has great variety; food is beautifully prepared and plated; service is very attentive and professional. I had the bison meatloaf and my companion had roasted chicken.....both dishes were great! Good cocktails; a very nice wine and beer list; beautiful interior and ambiance. We will definitely be "regulars" at the Chew-Chew.
Met friends during the towns’ Christmas stroll event. Restaurant was busy and full of kids, which was expected. Service was friendly, professional and efficient. Started with appetizers of burrata (unbelievably delicious) and shishito peppers/cauliflower (also really good). Rest of meal was fantastic (burger, chicken, pasta and pearl couscous bowl). Always a good meal with great variety!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent dinner at Chew Chew. The new menu is more extensive and has more variety. I can't wait to go back to try another new dish. I had the jambalaya which was excellent. My son had the Sunday Gravy - a creative and delicious take on an Italian standard. My husband had a vegetable salad which he found to be very good. We shared a creme brulee to complete our night - very well done with wonderful caramelization on top. Our waiter was outstanding as well. This unique and creative gem is located in the one-of-a-kind village of Riverside. A town known for idyllic small town living only 9 miles from the loop. I suggest arriving early and taking a walk along the river path or along one of the winding streets with Victorian era homes lovingly restored.
Was our first time there. Had a nice booth where we could see the food being prepared so it was busy but not noises. Had the oysters and they were excellent and reasonably priced.
Had the grilled salmon which was also very good and a nice portion. Hard a draft beer and I think it was the coldest beer I every had at a restaurant. Was a great dining experience and will return again.
