The Chew Chew
Good experience overall. First time visiting The Chew Chew given it came up On Table as an available option. When we arrived around 7 pm the place was full for a snowy day when we thought most places would be empty. The service was great and the food was great too. We got the nachos which were good and the kale ceasar was a fresh standard ceasar. We got the salmon, halibut and steak and frites. Steak was perfectly cooked and the salmon was too. The halibut was a little dry or overcooked. Overall service was great and we will definitely be back. Great to have some a great restaurant in the neighborhood. This is the type of place that people from Chicago should drive out for.
Great service and food! Definitely a favorite !
Valentine's day menu was absolutely delicious. The crab risotto was excellent. Ant the steak was perfect with roasted vegetables. We really enjoyed the dinner and the wine. So wonderful to have such an excellent restaurant close to home!
We had an outstanding dinner at Chew Chew Saturday night. The Crab topped Trout was excellent as was the Florida Mahi Mahi. Our server was excellent and she recommended the Guava Sorbet for dessert that was very tasty.
Just a few blocks from the BNSF Riverside station, Chew Chew is easy to get to. It's casual with, what looked like, many repeat, local, customers. The menu was varied and the food was delicious.
Enjoyed every item on the three course Valentine menu! Inventive and well balanced.
Always love coming here. The food and service are consistent which is rare in a restaurant that has been around as long as chew chew. Drinks are well invented and always a good pour.
Excellent service & food. Highly recommend Chew Chew Cafe. We have been customers for over 20 years.
Valentines Day Menu was original and awesome
Giedrius our server was great, the food was delicious. Never a bad meal. Our favorite special place.
Chew Chew continues to be one of our favorite restaurants so it’s not surprising we chose it for Valentines Day. I had the special menu and the crab risotto and skirt steak were quite nice. But the chocolate ‘mousse’ was disappointing; much more like chocolate pudding than a mousse.
Fabulous local place to celebrate Valentine's Day!
A server of any worth would have an opinion about the menu, not just "Everything is great!!!"
Initially felt very rushed by our served which negatively impacted our enthusiasm about dining here. We decided we wouldn't be rushed which, thankfully, slowed things down to an acceptable level. Servers can make or break a dining experience. O food, however, was very good: grilled shrimps, and salmon with risotto. Will go back.
Overall this was an OK place. Our waiter was very nice but it was kind of odd when my friend ordered the jambalaya and he advised her that it’s kind of spicy and she might not like it! But overall the food was fine and the place is fine. We had a reservation and I arrived right on the button of our reservation time. The host told me that as soon as a table became available we would be the very next people to be seated. My friend was about three minutes behind me and while I was waiting another couple came in and was all chatty with the host and then they were waiting as well. Some other people arrived and they were waiting and before you know it the people who came after me were seated. And then the host said to me, “as soon as your friend is here you can have the next table.” She arrived about 60 seconds later and we had to wait another 10 or 15 minutes for a table. He should’ve told me that to begin with so I found it quite irritating. The place must have plenty of business if you can get away with treating your patrons like that. So they’ll be fine if I don’t go back.
It was restaurant week but we dine here frequently. It is a favorite of ours.
We split the warm vegetable salad. The next time go there, I will get it as an entree, plus the addition of chicken. The salad was so good; I wanted to keep eating it. I had the brick chicken as an entree; there was enough for leftovers the next evening and my husband raved about it.
Chew Chew has never disappointed. It, thank goodness, is very close to our house, so it's the first place we think of when we want a special meal. I recommend getting a reservation, however. It's so popular that you might have to wait if you didn't reserve. Our waiter, Giedrius(?) is a real pro, very efficient but friendly and knows the menu.
I went with two other friends for Restaurant week. Food was delicious as usual.
Excellent menu choices.
Excellent food and Service.
had a very warm comfy dinner on a snowy night and bar-b-que week was an added pleasure.
We went for BBQ week, remembering how good the ribs were. It was great to see them back, along with other options. The food and service were outstanding. To people who’ve never been, I’d say that every space has its advantages - booths let you watch the kitchen, the front tables have the street view, the bar when you want more lively or to see sports, and upstairs for a quieter environment.
Scott and his team always get it right. Great variety of seasonal options and the tried and true favorites. Quality of food and service make this a gem and few other restaurants compare within the Chicago area (yeah its that good)
Excellent every time. We went for BBQ week. Delicious!
A “neighborhood gem” indeed, the Chew Chew never disappoints!
most things very good, but the cod sandwich, was more bread & breading than I prefer
Food and service was excellent and as a unexpected surprise they have a happy hour 4-6 even on Sunday and the cocktails were also excellent
Always one of our favorites. My favorite place for Trocadero.
EXCELLENT FOOD, GOOD SERVICE. ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO GO TO CHEW-CHEW
The Chew Chew has been a go-to for years. It has always been something to look forward to. Seasonal menu changes are wonderful. Very accommodating. Very comfortable.
My favorite restaurant. Better than anything in La Grange or Oak Park. Better than most restaurants in Oak Brook and downtown. Consistent good food, great service and easy to get to.
Christmas Eve tradition
Had an Open Table reservation on Christmas Eve and they were booked. When we arrive our table was ready and there was no other tables nearby. Very impressed with the food, atmospher and service.
Very pleased with food and service. Our server, Cassandra, was most gracious.
It was our 51st anniversary. Surprised with the yummy desert.
Will come again.
As always, Chew Chew never disappoints. Great wine and drink list paired with outstanding food! So much to choose from you need to come back. The owner/chef interacts with the guests and is welcoming to everyone that comes. Will come back again and again!
The Chew Chew is a modern and absolutely delicious destination. You won't be disappointed with any of the fare and reasonably priced. Fresh, fresh, fresh.
Chew Chew has a menu to please all. Food was prepared perfectly. Our Waiter, G, accommodated 1 member of our party, who ordered the 5 course wine dinner. Main courses arrived together. Beautiful decorations for the Holidays.
We go to Chew Chew often. The food is consistently outstanding. It is s gem in the neighbourhood!
Great atmosphere, good food, wonderful service. We always enjoy dinner at Chew Chews. Recently dined early and got drinks half price (before six)... the moscato was really good. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for!
We made reservations and were glad we did because the restaurant was busy. Several couples came in and ate at the bar, where we were seated. our waitress was friendly and gave us time to peruse the menu and order cocktails without rushing. Unfortunately, I ordered a special and a short time later was informed the special was sold out. No problem, I headed back to the menu and selected another dish. The waitress apologized for not telling me the special was out when she gave us the menu. Our meals were delicious. We had salmon and steak frites that was made with a perfectly cooked and seasoned skirt steak. The train theme is well done, and the small space seems airy because of high ceilings. We aren't sure if there was dining upstairs, but we did hear people laughing up there. It may be for private groups. We will definitely return.
