   I had never been here before and my boyfriend had raved about it so I decided to book it for his birthday as a surprise. I booked a fair few weeks in advance thinking we would get a lovely table but as soon as we arrived my booking name was for starters under the wrong name, secondly we were dumped into the edge of a walkway, we then sat and ordered. We got garlic bread to start and we're not given any starter plates like other diners were given. My other half then ordered steak as he loved to pick what steak he got (that's what he loved about the restaurant so much) little did we know he didn't even get to pick, they just gave it to him. There was no offer of water. Overall the food was second to none, it was amazing, as I was so excited to come to his favourite place if the service was there then this place would be one to beat... such a shame.

   We went to the Chequers for the Tuesday "Rack Attack" which having been before we knew it would be good. However, this time it was not so good - it was just okay and considering it is only £10 per head we did not feel there was room to complain. My husband and I ordered the ribs but my son ordered fillet steak surf and turf..... steak apparently was beautiful but the prawns turned up when he had finished his meal! Despite us chasing. Waitress very apologetic but not great service. The main issue though was that being a local pub/restaurant they advertise the local brew of Rebellion.... however, we sat down to be told that they had run out ! Not great news as that to my husband is the main draw to The Chequers. Not that we asked, but we really should have complained as they were happy to take full payment from us - typically English we did not complain but in hindsight we should have. As it was not so good this time around it is doubtful we will go again - shame !

   Great steak in this High Street pub, friendly staff (even though some could do with a bit of training). Good choice of starters and mains (typical pub food).

   Have been to Chequers many times and the food, drink service & ambience has always been 1st class

   We had booked due to the event of Pub In The Park - although when we arrived it was pretty empty. The food was good - the ambience was very quiet. I come hear quite a bit - the food is always better in smaller groups.

   Good food , evening ruined by being seated too close to bar where the quiz night was happening. Service was not the best

   Ate on Saturday evening, disappointed after good recommendations and a good experience a couple of years ago. Dining was cramped close to the bar. Non attentive service and poorly groomed staff. Rose wine served at room temp. Incredibly dry ribs and very grizzly lamb.

   It was above average for the usual pub in England. Food on the bland side but not bad!
