Harvey's Beer Battered Fish And Chips
with mushy peas & lemon
Pan Fried Calves' Liver
beer mustard mash, savoy cabbage, French beans with smoked bacon and a sage jus
Good food well cooked and presented
Service was good with a pleasant waitress
Wide selection for each course
Lovely fresh colourful fish salad, my friend had the cheese tartlet which was so light .
A good wine list. The girls serving were very attentive and pleasant.
Very very nice pub. Very pleased to have discovered it, will be back as great service, nice food and lovely settings. Staff were very friendly.
Old world charm in a quiet pub
Great food, beer and service, and good value for money. Will definitely go again
Excellent "gastro pub" experience". We had main courses (liver, pork cutlets) and desserts, and found it all tasty and satisfying. I enjoyed the Harveys bitter. The service was friendly and efficient, and our table was inside with a nice ambience. Only thing is that the floor was uneven and it took us a little while to get the chairs and table level and not rocking - the (small) price you pay for eating in a historic building, I guess.
We had a lovely evening for our 54th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend The Chequers.
Nice place , good food and friendly staff. All good
This is food of the highest order, you would have to go a long way to find a pub, or even a restaurant with food this good. Original and interesting menu and side dishes that mean something rather than the standard 'extra' to make money out of. Service was also excellent, hosts who care about their customers, personalable and engaging.
Lovely sunny courtyard at the back of the pub. Delicious food. Good waitress who was fun and attentive.
As usual, the chequers food was brilliant and staff are brilliant!!
Food was not nearly as good as before. Pity as it was a special occasion and was not good value
Wonderful food and service in a lovely, quiet and safe setting!
Fantastic lunch. Staff were very friendly and attentive and allowed us to move seats as the sun was glaring down on us. Food quality was exceptional, can't wait to come back!
First time here and certainly won’t be the last. Great service and excellent food.
I had fish and chips, very nice fish but I would have liked chunky chips not skinny fries.
Everything else good as usual.
5* ... Booked up a Sunday Roast and we were not disappointed. Excellent food, great service (we wanted a Yorkshire with the pork roast and extra gravy - no problem 👍🏼). The sun shone for us too which was a nice bonus as we were seated outside. Loving the new online booking arrangement too.
To quote Arnie... “I’ll be back” 😋
Great to be back inside!
Six of us very much enjoyed dinner out out at last
Delicious food & friendly service
Very tasty food and very good, prompt, friendly, service.
Excellent food served perfectly hot even though it was a chilly showery day and we were outside in the marquee. Full marks to the friendly efficient waiting staff as well as the kitchen team!
Front Outdoor setting needs a heater this time of the year (back area has one). But quality of food and service made up for it. Lovely evening....
One of our first outings while restaurants were open outside - and I must say it was a charming winner.
Everyone there, diners and staff alike excited to be back out again - and the food really delivered. My pigeon breasts and pork belly were both delicious - and a chance to have a hand pulled pint off Harveys was a spring treat.
The staff could not have been more welcoming - and the marquee space outside was wonderful. Lovely views of the outside.
Excellent customer service, great covered outdoor dining space and delicious food. Great place for family and friends. A gem of a find, we’ll definitely be back!
Excellent as always🥰. Weather blustery but outside marquee perfect.
A real find, excellent food after a walk around the village. Staff really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to next visit
We all enjoyed our food except my husband’s steak was a bit tough. The staff were very attentive. The staff couldn’t change the weather which was cold and windy. We brought our own blankets but they do supply blankets. We had an awning over head but a side windbreak would have made it more enjoyable. Despite the cold wind we had an enjoyable lunch and will definitely be returning to visit indoors or outdoor on a warmer day.
Probably too expensive for the food it provides. Portions are large and my burger was nice. However, we were expecting better ham rather than a simple cold cut for ham, eggs & chips for £13. Excellent service though and nice people.
have always enjoyed the food here. The service was friendly and efficient. Was a chilly day but we were so pleased to be ANYWHERE that it didn’t spoil our experience.
Terrible weather so a little damp outside. Cushions and blankets provided and well compensated by the standard of the food and service. Will definitely return
So good to have The Chequers open again. Food still to an excellent standard. Friendly, helpful staff and still pouring a mean pint of Guiness! Welcome back The Chequers.
Wonderful service, lovely outdoor terrace and great food as always. Faultless. Even apologised to us for the rain!
Once again the chequers did not fail to deliver! The food and service was brilliant and we will definitely be back in the near future.
This is a lovely pub. You can sit inside, outside the front, in an outside courtyard or in the garden.
The staff are very friendly and efficient.
This is not a formulaic menu with the same old things. We are tired of big chains with average menus. The food was of a high quality and there are children's options.
I would definitely come back.
Always excellent. Very lucky to sit on back patio in the sunshine!
Absolutely excellent staff
Food great sensible price
A good place to have nice meal in the country. The first 2 lines tell you what you really need to know.
I took my mother to The Chequers for a late lunch after lockdown.
The staff were very helpful in the matter of my mum's arthritis and changed our table so that she was more comfortable.
The sun was shining and the experience was everything one could wish for on a Spring day; good food, served promptly, in beautiful surroundings, at a sensible price.
Great place! We both had the burgers and they were huge! Super bacon as well if you add it.
Service was very friendly and fast. Definitely recommend!
Lovely atmosphere great food, can’t wait for restaurant opening indoors
Outstanding service and amazing food- will definitely go again
Always a wonderful experience
We had an excellent meal outside in the sunshine. The food was splendid and little things (like offering my son some scrap paper to draw on whilst we were waiting) made a big difference. Highly recommended!
