So pleasant and Covid-safe in the courtyard. Delicious food, good choice of real ale. Friendly staff, all great.
I have two comments regarding the food
1. The amount of fries on the ham and eggs was over the top which was hiding the fact that the quantity of ham was lacking.
2. The pastry at the base of the apple tart was overcooked to the point that it was almost impossible to cut.
On a positive note, the liver was perfectly cooked and the accompanying jus was very tasty.
I’m never disappointed when ever I visit this pub. Best food in the Horsham area I think. Friendly attentive staff. Well done keep up the good work. Will from Brighton(Horsham)
Enjoyed my Sunday lunch, food was very fresh, very good portions.
Lovely relaxed and cosy vibe. Table was a bit of a squeeze to get our legs under, but other than that I can't fault our evening. (Puddings were a great size portion too!)
Lovely country pub with excellent menu, will definitely go back as we were spoilt for choices. Several dishes that we’d like to try. Lots of outside space and plenty of off road parking.
We were very impressed with everything on our first visit to The Chequers
Quick service, excellent food, helpful staff. Good parking.
Excellent food, great quality and choice, very friendly and superb service. Highly recommend.
Food as always upto scratch. Service friendly, knowledgable & attentive. We’ll return again.
This is a wonderful spot in deep countryside where people put in a lot of effort to make your visit a special and enjoyable experience. The food is cooked for you and the menu is varied with a wide variety of choices. The desserts are exceptional.
This was a crowded restaurant at 7.30pm on a Saturday night. The service was not up to previous standard. We waited ages to get a drink initially and were told when the drink did arrive that we could not place our food order yet. We had to call someone over to place our food order. The food was very good despite this.
Great meal as usual and staff so nice and friendly.
It's always a pleasure to have an evening there. Excellent grub and very nice people.
Amazing as usual. Thanks for a great dinner! See you guy again.
Great meal, great service. All food was perfect, Service was attentive without being intrusive.
We had an amazing meal, food was really well presented, amazing flavours & great service , will definitely be back . Top recommendation.
A fantastic celebration was made even more specail by the superb food and service we recieved. Thank you very much.
I had the Sea bass and it was beautifully cooked, although I had a little trouble getting all the bones out . My husband had the liver and he said it was excellent .
We shared a starter and the chef kindly put it onto two plates which was very kind .
The staff were extremely attentive and friendly.
It was very quiet in the dining room and we do prefer a noisier, happy atmosphere which I know is not liked by everyone .
On the whole, we had a lovely experience.
Food was amazing, not overpriced and delicious. Would highly recommend.
Pretty pub in a scenic village. Great service and excellent food
We ended up sitting inside for lunch which was our choice. There were only two men having lunch and we were given a table right next to them. Thinking it would get busy but it didn’t. Food was good, service very slow but don’t know whether it was because they were very busy with garden diners
Best pub Sunday roast for years coupled with excellent service. Highly recommended.
A good example of a gastro-pub with better than average food. The home-made bread and the home-made apple pie were both extremely good (leave room for dessert, as they don't show you the dessert menu on arrival but it is the strongest part of their offering.)
Low beams, so not tall-person friendly and the chairs (old, wood) look better than they feel to sit on. Possibly as a result of Covid policies it felt draughty and on the cold side, although the hot food came on commendably scorching-hot plates.
The draught bitter was well kept and the wine list, although quite short, offered a thoughtful selection at fair prices. I would be happy to (and probably will) return.
Friendly staff. Food was good and hot. We had the ham egg and chips and it had good flavour and generous portion size.
I’d go back. The menu looked interesting and the food we saw at other people’s tables looked good too.
I must compliment the serving staff on there response to my husband’s behaviour. He has Dementia and was having a bad day. They were very considerate and helpful.
Well done to them.
The food was very good. Tender and well cooked roast beef with super vegetables and calves liver was excellent. The service let them down. The staff were all lovely but we got forgotten several times - they always apologised but it was disappointing. We would have had dessert but the order wasn’t taken so we just asked for the bill. It wasn’t all that busy so I think it was just not managed particularly well. I hope that someone learns from this review and puts it right because we would love to go back.
Thoroughly enjoyed the beef sirloin roast lunch. Beef was great, as were the selection of vegetables. Yorkshire pud was a bit crisp but the tasty gravy helped with that!
Really good pub food, well cooked with friendly service. We have been here before, and we will come back!
Fab food as always. Four stars instead of five as would have preferred brioche bun with my burger
The chequers is our favourite place to eat. The food is always brilliant quality, with an interesting menu. The portion size good. The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile- three of us shared a desert and they split it between us, giving a perfect individual serving- wonderful.
Very reliable food, intelligent pub menu. An excellent owner chef who mixes proper pub classics with some more complicated dishes. Unfortunately the latter are rarely cooked well in most gastro- pubs and they ignore the former, with the exception of the ubiquitous burger and fish and chips.
Good food well cooked and presented
Service was good with a pleasant waitress
Wide selection for each course
Lovely fresh colourful fish salad, my friend had the cheese tartlet which was so light .
A good wine list. The girls serving were very attentive and pleasant.
Very very nice pub. Very pleased to have discovered it, will be back as great service, nice food and lovely settings. Staff were very friendly.
Old world charm in a quiet pub
Great food, beer and service, and good value for money. Will definitely go again
Excellent "gastro pub" experience". We had main courses (liver, pork cutlets) and desserts, and found it all tasty and satisfying. I enjoyed the Harveys bitter. The service was friendly and efficient, and our table was inside with a nice ambience. Only thing is that the floor was uneven and it took us a little while to get the chairs and table level and not rocking - the (small) price you pay for eating in a historic building, I guess.
We had a lovely evening for our 54th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend The Chequers.
Nice place , good food and friendly staff. All good
This is food of the highest order, you would have to go a long way to find a pub, or even a restaurant with food this good. Original and interesting menu and side dishes that mean something rather than the standard 'extra' to make money out of. Service was also excellent, hosts who care about their customers, personalable and engaging.
