Since 2006, multi award winning chef Steven Sanderson has been delighting his customers with a beautiful selection of delicious dishes that offer traditional values with a modern twist.

Come and relax within our 400 year old inn beneath the ancient beams, and enjoy your meal in contemporary decor near an open fire that burns throughout the year.

All of our mains were absolutely delicious, fish and chips, pork belly and sea bass and my son enjoyed his goats cheese tartlet starter. The sea bass and pork belly were relatively small portions, quality not quantity but that suited me. The pub wasn't particularly busy for a Friday evening but it was fairly early on. The staff were friendly and the pub had a warm atmosphere. Some people might be put off by the stuffed wildlife on the wall but it didn't bother us. A bit pricey but most places are these days. We didn't have desserts except they bought a mini dessert with a candle in it as they knew one of us was celebrating a birthday. That was delicious too and a nice touch! Thank you

Service was very good, nice friendly staff, we were met at the front desk and taken to our seats and staff were very attentive. Food was a mixed bag. Starters were really good, my main (chicken), the tweal on the top was like plastic (un-edible), and my chicken was bone dry as if it had been standing for hours after being cooked, or as if it had been reheated. The roasted herb potatoes, whilst looking fantastic, where only partially cooked. Presentation of the food was good all round. My wife's dish, venison, was very good. At the end, we felt value for money was ok / bordering on poor, and for the quality , it was very expensive for what was in the end a pub meal.

Faultless as usual. Always so well looked after. It was our anniversary which we didn’t mention, but they remembered from last year and there was a card waiting for us and a card and complimentary dessert for my husband’s birthday. This is our favourite place. The food and swerving e is exemplary. Thanks again, to all at The Chequers x

Really lovely pub with a traditional, yet modern vibe. Really cosy inside. We were thoughtfully seated at a large table, even though there were only two of us, to allow for having two large dogs in tow !! Eash dog got a water blwoas well ! Service was excellent - friendly and efficient - and the glass of wine my husband accidentally knocked over was quickly replaced free of charge. It was his birthday and the card and small dessert with a candle were very nice touches. The food was superb - we went for the Sunday roasts. The meat was done to perfection, the sides were lovely and the whole plate so tasty. Very generous portions as well. Pud and cheese were very good as well, as were the different wines we chose by the glass. Prices may be towards the upper end for a pub, but you get great value for money and we will definitely be back !

The service was great, the food was great, the staff were excellent and attentive. The only negative from my personal point of view was the shortage of locally crafted real ales and lagers.

WINED AND ALMOST DIED! We celebrated my husband's birthday at The Chequers at Burcot with our son. All three of us ordered different starters, mains and drinks. I started feeling unwell later, had stomach pain, then was sick and had an upset stomach. I wasn't feeling well next day as well. My husband and son were fine. I've contacted the pub explaining the situation and how our special day was ruined and asking for a refund. I've mentioned that I suspected the wine that I drank which didn't taste like Merlot from Bordeaux region but can't be sure that it was the wine that poisoned me or something else. I also explained that I haven't sent the wine off willing not to spoil the birthday mood. I've received a few emails from the pub's manager Madalina, very polite but puzzling and upsetting at the same time. It appeared to be MY FAULT drinking the bad wine. The fact that the poisoning could've come from the food that I ate was totally ignored. No responsibility for serving bad products (it doesn't matter was it wine or food) was taken! I was offered no refund but "as a gesture of good will" 20% off my next bill should I wish to come again. I find the manager's attitude appalling. What do you think, dear diners?

Hi Olga, We are genuinely sorry to hear that your celebration didn’t go as planned. However, we must respond to your claims with clarity and fairness, both to protect the integrity of our team and the reputation of our establishment. On the day of your visit, we served the exact same wine and food to many other guests, none of whom reported any illness or issue whatsoever. There was no indication at any point that any of our products were unsafe or improperly served.

From the minute you walk in you are made to feel welcome. Went for our anniversary and it was a nice touch to have a card on the table. Food was delicious and packed with flavour. Portion sizes very generous. Service was unobtrusive but always at hand. Dishes were described when asked. Nice touches like ice and lemon given when having water.

It is very rare that I order steak as its normally not cooked as I ask or it's an inferior piece of meat, however the ribeye that I had at the chequers was delicious, cooked perfectly and the tastiest steak I've had in a very long time, the sides were also fantastic and a great veer and wibe selection, I highly recommend this place 😁
