The Chef and I
Folks can choose to order off the menu or do a chef’s tasting seven days a week.
We offer a chef’s tasting at three levels: three, five, or seven courses; a culinary experience comprised of what’s in season and what the chefs are inspired to share with you that week.
Additionally, we offer regular menus for lunch, brunch, dinner, and happy hour. Executive Chef Chris Rains and his staff carefully curate these menus seasonally.
Counter (Show Kitchen) seating is limited and generally require a reservation. If you desire Counter (Show Kitchen) seating, please indicate in the special requests section of your reservation.
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Any reservations changed/ cancelled within 24 hours of that reservation is subject to a $20 per seat charge.

Chef Chris made us the most delicious Shrimp and Grits for Sunday brunch. All fresh ingredients prepared in front of us at the counter. Big chunks of bacon, fresh tomatoes, cream, shrimp with spices sautéed in butter. Fantastic- we will definitely be dining at The Chef & I again.
What a night! We loved it as soon as we walked through the door and were seated at the counter. A communal dining experience that had us interacting with fellow diners and chef Chris and chef Sarah. My husband and I shared the 7 course tasting menu with an order of the fish of the day,along with the wine pairing. Service is on point yet personal and casual. Rates as one of the best dining experiences that we have had. I’d come back to Nashville just to go to dinner at “ The Chef and I “
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner....everyone was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing! Absolutely will dine here again.
This is one of the best spots I have visited in a long while, the food and atmosphere were awesome, I plan on circling back in the future.
If there are only two of you sit at the bar around the kitchen. Chef and staff are engaged and pleasant.

This was our first experience and man was it fabulous!
We loved the food bar. Chef Chris talked to us about all the dishes and items that we had questions about and also told us about others that we will need to try on our next visit. I enjoyed the High West Manhattan they made for me.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with our first visit to The Chef and I. Awesome experience all the way. We sat at the counter and were able to watch and interact with the chef as he prepared all the dishes. We both did the 5 course tasting, so much food, and each dish was wonderful. Hard to choose a favorite. Loved the atmosphere, the setting, the cocktails, but especially the food! We will definitely return when causing Nashville. Highly recommend!
Great food and drinks! Everyone in our party ordered something different and there were no complaints. I had the tuna steak which was amazing. We went on a Saturday night and the environment was lively although this was not our expectation based on our first visit at their old Lenox Village location. The old location was a lot more intimate and personable as we enjoyed interacting with other customers and staff. The new vibe isn't bad, we just prefer the intimate feel which made it unique.
The food was amazing!! The atmosphere was exciting and vibrant! The bartenders, Megan and Todd were fantastic!
We love to go here but what we always order the scallops and the pork tenderloins were totally different!! We had no idea that the chef changes up the dish so we were disappointed with the different version. Will probably not go back now
Food was hit and miss. Cocktails were off. Atmosphere was excellent.
The entire staff was very friendly and accommodating from valet, host, wait staff and the chefs...plus, the food was phenomenal! Will definitely be back soon!
First, I must say, an outstanding experience. Thank you to all! Sat hightop at the bar, excellent menu selections, something for everyone, local tastes, veggies and meats, Oliver & grandma have decked out the place with excellent artwork! Pleasant, upbeat & very informational conversations with the cooks, wait staff and owner. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and oh, did I mention the food was phenomenal! I had my pick eating daughter with me and she cleaned her plate!
Thanks again to all, will make this a first stop for future visits to Nashville! Excellent job!
Chefs tasting menu was delicious! Great first course with the scallop and lobster. Raw course was just as good; an ahi tuna covered jasmine rice and avocado dish. While I’m not a fan of pork belly, it had rave remarks from my partner!
AMAZING food and fantastic service! The Brussels sprouts are out of this world!
I loved the concept of the restaurant. However their website photos set the stage for a romantic types of setting and it was anything but that. The food was tasty but left still hungry after the 5 course meal. Portion size should be slightly larger. I’m an athletic person who watches what I eat etc so I’m not saying that as a person who just wants to consume gross amounts of food.
The food however was amazing. The experience was also amazing. The staff were super nice and watching the chefs prepare the meals was fun.
If you are looking for a unique experience, tasty prepared foods, not too hungry, this is an awesome place.
I would certainly dine here again, but maybe only once a year just as a revamp of the experience or if bringing some guests that have never dined in this sort of style before.

This restaurant was awesome - the food was amazing, we did the Tasting Menu & wine pairing which was a smart move. Service is top notch and it's a really relaxed atmosphere.
We had a friend in town from Australia who is a chef so I wanted to find a restaurant experience that I thought he would enjoy. We were not disappointed by The Chef and I. Our friend got the full 7-course Chef's tasting menu while my husband and I ordered a few apps and entrees. All of the food was outstanding! We sat at the bar and it truly was dinner and a show as we watched the chefs whip up everyone's dinner. From the menu, the brussel sprouts were amazing and a really good size portion. I got the steak with a chimichurri sauce and fingerling potato salad - I could have eaten a pound of the potato salad it was that good. From the tasting menu, the scallops were cooked to perfection and seasoned just right, the tuna on a bed of avocado was so good and the putin was one to write home about. We will definitely be back and look forward to what new inventive menu items they'll have.
Fantastic food! Great flavors! Crispy duck, crab Rangoon, everything was delicious. Excellent service. Very helpful and attentive. Loved the whole vibe and ambiance of the restaurant. A must when in Nashville!

WE ordered the 7 course tasting with wine pairings. Wine didn’t come out with our food, first three courses were good but fell from there. Absolutely not worth almost $500! Much better for less in Nashville. Climate was hot and sticky during the meal as well.

Interesting concept. Amazing service! The seating is family style so for an intimate dining experience this isn’t your spot. The food was extremely fancy. I wish the tasting menu was published that day so that I could have evaluated if I like the dishes. The staff is amazing. Call ahead to get preferred seats.

I rely heavily on restaurant reviews but rarely contribute. However my experience at The Chef and I requires me to pass on my highest recommendation. We enjoyed the Chef Selections with every course building on the former and the banter with the chef Sara put the meal over the top. The group next to us was from Atlanta and had eaten here the day before but were so pleased they came back for a second day. Likewise we will be back.
It was my best friends birthday and they allowed us to sit at the Chefs table. They’re Food is amazing and I love the service. They make u feel welcome and included. I think it’s one of the best restaurants in town. Plus I love watching the chefs make the food. Please don’t change anything! Loved it!!

The Chef and I has been consistently impressive with every visit over the past two years, even with their move to the new Gulch location. The team is friendly and extremely helpful from the hostess to the managers, wait staff and chefs. The ambiance is one of a kind in Nashville which matches the menu. I look forward to my next visit, the counter seating watching the chefs in action is irreplaceable.
My husband and I took a quick trip to Nashville! The chef and I was a delicious but also entertaining meal !
my wife and I enjoyed the meal, the food was as well prepared and the atmosphere was cool and unique. The the portions were small and the cost was very steep for what you got.
Also, we had the wine tasting with the meal and the wine we were looking most forward to, and was called out in the menu, was not served. We received one good white wine, two modest white wine and two modest red wine for the tasting for $100. Could have went to Morton's and ate much better and gone home full.
The food is fantastic. They cook out in the open and have 3/5/7 course options with items that are unique and well prepared. But be ready to drop some serious cash!
