The Charmant Restaurant
Restaurant was not busy at all, just one great server for entire section, he was kind to explain the delay on the service. Drinks were really good Jonathan the bartender on turn its a lots of fun and he actually create a great drink. Food was good but overpriced in regards to the portions especially the rack of lamb 4 very small bones for $40.00 Oh ! well we decided to dine the next day at the sister restaurant The Waterfront that is always great in comparison to Charmant.
Birthday breakfast- best in town !!
I ordered the Strawberry salad and a mojito. It was delicious
We love the Charmont, as its unique atmosphere and food are a nice change from the usual restaurant.
I had asked for a quiet area to be seated when I made the reservation. Upon arrival we were taken to a table in the middle of the restaurant, so I needed to ask for a more quiet table. The hostess wore a dress that was inappropriately revealing. It seemed tacky for such an expensive and classy restaurant.
We visited The Charmant while in town for a State Track Meet. As we had just returned from five days of delicious meals in Washington, D.C., we weren’t expecting to be so wowed by The Charmant! The restaurant reflects the hotel’s unique blend of historic and hip accented with a dash of French flair. The view was lovely as the windows overlooked La Crosse’s Riverside Park, which is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. I would definitely recommend the Farmer’s Greens salad (especially for fennel lovers) and the sous vide chicken breast. The price point was Midwestern moderate- a pleasant surprise!
The entree preparation was average, appetizer and dessert were exceptional, the service was outstanding.
We did not realize brunch went on late Saturday pm. So the menu was a bit limited. Drinks took a long time to get. Waiter was nice
Ambiance was a little sterile, food was okay, highly over rated. Rather spendy for what you got. Service was great. Table setting, dishes nice. Everyone was very nice and accommodating.
Lettuce not fresh, not the best hamburger we've had, salad scimpy,
*JUST AN UPDATE
We were immediately called today from the Charmant to say how upset they are that our dining experience was not acceptable.
They were very generous to us and we’d hope to give them another chance someday
I had wanted to make a special dinner for our daughter who graduated from UW LaCrosse. We scheduled champagne two weeks in advance. When we arrived we wanted drinks in the lounge first. I ordered 3 old fashions with STUFFED OLIVES they arrived 15 minutes later. With one stuffed olive one regular olive in each. Our other 2 guests arrived and I ordered two more of THE SAME I said. She came with them with one cherry. Our guest said we would like the olives, the waitress said we don't make these with olives. My guest said can you please get me them? She went and brought two (not any for the other drink) olives that were plain.
When we arrived at our table we had to ask for the bottle I ordered that should have been on ice.
The waiter went to find it and came back saying "I have bad news, the bottle you ordered is gone."
(This should have been saved for our celebration!)
Then we ordered french onion soup for 6 people. The waiter cam back and said "I have bad news" we are all out of french onion soup and no soup at all!!
We said then we will add more fries to our dinner order please. He brought the fries out as a SOUP course!
When our meat showed up it was very tough to chew the mushrooms were cooked to leather. I'm not kidding! I could have cried!
All I wanted was a memorable dinner with our beautiful daughter....I was so embarrassed with our guests we had. Tina Snow
We love dining at the Charmant. We visit our son in Lacrosse and take every opportunity to have a least one meal here.
Food and drinks were delicious! Get the thank you, bye! You won’t regret it!
We dined early because of a musical performance we were in town to attend. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The only reason our review rating wasn't higher is that we felt the menu was a bit limiting.
This is a lovely place to come and have Sunday Brunch. Its a beautiful building and the food is very good. This is the second time I have been here while visiting and would definitely come again. I like how they change the menu up to keep it fresh.
It was Restaurant week and we enjoyed the pre-fixed menu. The mushroom soup creamy delicious and the yellowfin tuna salad was great. Love the atmosphere, quality and service.
Our party of 9 seated in the parlor thoroughly enjoyed the food offered on Easter Sunday; however, some very basic service issues were ignored, and these left us with a "bad taste in our mouths."
Our server, who did not have her hair pulled back, seemed a bit scattered in terms of very basic service etiquette; for example, when we asked for crab implements for my 85-year old mom, so she could actually break into her crab legs, our server returned with one crab fork -- which offered Mom no help at all..
The second example of poor service was the lack of awareness for coffee refills. I had to ask for a refill twice, and then once again for the other guests at my table. It seemed this server had very little basic training.
Despite this poor service, I did leave a tip because it was Easter, but I would hope that at a fine establishment like the Charmant, you might consider staffing your quality folks especially on big days.
I did NOT mind my the $400 bill for our delightful meal, but I did mind the very poor service we received, and will certainly consider this the next time I decide to treat my family to a special day.
Food was top notch and delicious. Service was a bit disorganized.
Truly outstanding food. In particular, the half chicken was fabulous (I think they use sous vide). This place could hold its own in any major city. Stylish decor with a nice vibe. Moderately priced wine list. To top it off, even when the restaurant was full, it was easy to hear our conversation.
Staff was great, food was good, decor / ambiance was good...
Really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was excellent and the staff was great. We will go again for sure.
Honestly I called my friends after dinning there and told them about my amazing experience and informed them to be ready because I am taking them next time I go
Wonderful service! Excellent food! Very personal attention from our waitress.
Awesome service, fun atmosphere, nice menu, enjoyable meal. Thanks so much!
My parents, my boyfriend, and I dined at The Charmant for the first time recently. I thought the space was beautifully decorated, open, and inviting. Our server was very busy, but was friendly & made recommendations when asked. The pomme frites were delicious as a starter. When a member of the staff dropped off our cheeseboard, there was no explanation of the four cheeses offered. However, all were delicious. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We had the NY strip, the lamb shank, and the scallops at our table. Overall, a nice experience and I plan to visit again sometime.
Delicous food & friendly, attentive staff. Made for an enjoyable Saturday brunch date with my wife.
The Bouillabaisse was phenomenal and the wine selection is best in town!
A friend and I had an early reservation (5:30pm) so the room was nearly empty. Our server, Bailey, was informative and attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Its an open room with a view of the river. The seating spaces were comfortable, not crowded together. Menu selections were interesting and varied. The portions reasonable. I chose the daily special (braised short rib), which was melt in your mouth tender and flavorful. Would visit again.
I invited my friend to celebrate her birthday. Our lattes, Verde salad, fresh chicken sandwich and dessert were delicious. So good, I ordered a carry out for my hubby.
The service was excellent!
Stale temperature water, ice or at least the offering of ice in the water matters.
We enjoy the ambience, clean and fresh food served at Charmant. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner and will return.
Phenomenal food, fantastic service, great atmosphere. Breakfast portions were just about right for most of my party. Ingredients seemed to be top quality- thick bacon, smoked trout with capers, thick sliced brioche, etc. Would highly recommend!
Birthday dinner. Service was great. Menu selections a little limited and lack of vegetable sides was a little strange. Still a lovely dinner in a warm and cozy place.
My wife and I eat here 5 or 6 times a year. The food is always tasty and well prepared, the staff are always switched-on and helpful, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy with lovely views of the Mississippi River. This is our favorite restaurant in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and it will be yours too whenever you dine here. Thank you, Charmant...see you again real soon.
My husband and I celebrated my birthday. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. I think today they were under staff and caused service to be slow. The server was apologetic and I did get a complementary dessert for my birthday.
The service was prompt with immediate seating. The shrimp po boy was outstanding and I am told the Cobb salad was as well.
I strongly recommend the Charmant!
Limited, well crafted menu. Window seats look out over the river walk. Was a warm place to sit even on a cold day. Wonderful place to stay as well.
The Charmant was the perfect restaurant to spend my Valentine's date. The noise level was perfect; everyone was able to interact with their own table without other tables overhearing. I had made a reservation and we were able to sit within 15 minutes of our reservation time. The food was the perfect portion size and tasted phenomenal. I would highly recommend the Charmant to someone planning on treating their significant other.
It was a nice off-the-menu experience. Professional staff make enjoying the food and people you are with very easy. You pay for what you get, a great night out with good wine, food, and friends.
