Keep in mind, no children under 12 can dine at certain times and days. It's not a place I would want to take kids anyways because they wouldn't appreciate the elegance of it all. It is definitely a dining experience for a special occasion or romantic date night! Loved the live pianist and out door fire pit with blankets on the chairs.
Our dinner was such an incredible experience. The service was fantastic and the food was amazing.
The service was excellent. The atmosphere (in the tent) was stunning. The food was very delicious but a bit too expensive.
This was a fun and unexpected find on the south end of the valley. The food was excellent and the service was great. We will be going back. The Charleston is a great place for special occasions.
My husband and I stopped in for a reservation before a show at the Hale Theater. I thought arriving an hour and forty five minutes ahead would have been plenty of time. Wrong. We sat, and sat, and waited for our food. We ended up having to take two steaks to go because it took so long, and we were late to the play. We had to put our food in a cooler bag in our car and eat it when we got home. Ceviche, Charleston II salad, gaucho steak and tomahawk steak. Nothing to write home about. Also, I was charged full price for a mojito when I don’t drink alcohol. I ordered soda water with mint. Whatever. We probably won’t be back.
UPDATE: I have updated a previously more positive review. The owner is a piece of work. This restaurant won’t be in business long. Good luck.
This was an amazing dining experience. Natalie, our server, was amazing.
I have dined at Charleston in the past and was looking forward to celebrating my daughter’s birthday inside but instead was told because my wife was wearing sandals, not flip flops, but very nice dress sandals, that we could not dine inside. I was shocked because as the weather warms many women will tend to wear sandals. After dining at five star restaurants in Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, I have never encountered this happening. While we ate in the tent area and had great food and service, I will likely consider other restaurants in the future.
Excellent fine dining restaurant!
My wife got stuck in the bathroom for 15 minutes and I asked the staff for help, they acted like this is normal. They ask the chef for help and he pushed it off the the hostess and she had no clue which is no fault to her but no one had a key????
No one apologize to her and or even acted like we were important to the business after we just spent money at the establishment. Sorry to say but it ruined our experience and won’t come back .
Fabulous place! The food was delicious!!! Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.
We dined outdoors in the covered area and there was an extremely loud group in there. Otherwise it was lovely.
Our server Jason was wonderful! The food was beyond! And sitting outside on a lovely evening under the tent was so nice! I did not love the host - he was a little snippy - but other than that our experience was fabulous!
Great service excellent food.
Amazing in every way! Food was delicious, server was so delightful and the chef was so welcoming.
It was our first time, but definitely not the last!
Wonderful all around! Best meal in SLC so far!!
Service was outstanding. Laura was fantastic but with guaranteed reservations at 12:45 and our appetizers not arriving until close to 2:00 it was a disappointment.
The food, ambience and service was wonderful. One always wishes prices were a bit more affordable, but certainly comparable to the best restaurants of the SLC region.
The piano playing and musician were wonderful and personable. Add a great ouch of class to the meal. Having smaller, more intimate dining rooms is also a positive aspect.
We ate there on Easter with friends and had a most enjoyable brunch in the outside tent. Our server, Laura, had the best personality and gave us excellent service. We all loved it and will be back again.
Food and drinks were incredible, and our server Laura was AMAZING!!
Natalie served us, and she did a great job! We like the convenience and ambience - a real local gem near Draper Park. Nice location. We go about every 4 - 6 weeks for an above average dining experience. The owners seem to take pride in the food and menu.
This is a nice place for a special occasion or to spoil yourself. The ribeye was perfect.
A wonderful evening. We had halibut and rib eye. Both were very good. Great service and a quiet relaxing experience.
I took a friend to dinner for her birthday. The food was delicious (especially the brie appetizer), I loved the live piano music and out wait staff Laura was amazing!!. The only complaint I have is the tables are a bit too close together. It was hard to hear my dinner companion.
I was very excited to try The Charleston but was immediately disappointed when we were seated at a table that looked like it was squeezed into a small room. Essentially, we were seated in the foyer and had to deal with every customer who came to dine. Along with that, completely overwhelmed with the loud piano. We couldn’t hear a lot which was annoying. Our server was great and friendly and the food was also good.
Further disappointment came when we never received a soup and salad we ordered for appetizers. After we had finished our entrees we reminded them that we never received these and we were ready to leave. Another server, I assume the head waitress came to advise that the chef said even though we never got what we ordered, it was actually made so we had to pay for it. Never in my life have I had this experience at a restaurant.
Lots of other restaurants around that treat guests better to try out than here. My wife’s bday ruined here.
We celebrated a birthday dinner and we had a great experience and a wonderful meal at The Charleston! Our server Laura was incredibly personable and made our dining fun! Our meal was exceptional and we can’t wait to go again
Brunch was the best I’ve had in Utah
Great place for brunch, I really like the upgrades.
Brought family from out of town and wanted to highlight the Charleston. They absolutely loved it and as alway we were very pleased with the service, food and cocktails.
We were looking forward to this evening to celebrate our anniversary. This restaurant was recommended & after looking over the menu, we decided it give it a try. The establishment itself is quaint and nicely redone, however, the food for us was not worth the price & mediocre in flavor. My fish soup was actually very lacking in flavor! As for ambiance, we were seated in a room where a large party was finishing their meal. We were able to converse even with them there, but the noise from the room adjacent to us and that we were right by the pass through was disturbing. The light in that pass through was bright compared to the dimming light in the dining room — it was not quite the overall atmosphere we were looking for. We asked to be reseated to the backside of the room once the large party had left. At first we were told it would be fine, and then they changed saying too many people were waiting for seats. They ended up only seating one other couple and 3 tables were left open. When asked how our food was, I answered that the fish soup was good quality, but lacked flavor. The only response was that yes, the chef doesn’t like to use salt. I wish we could say our experience was positive enough to warrant a return visit, however, we will not return and I personally could not recommend.
The service and food were awesome. Pricey but worth it for those special occasions. Jason our waiter was fantastic. Would highly recommend trying it.
We have been here a number of times, and have always enjoyed the food. They use to change their food with the season; however it seems that they have stayed the same over the past year or so.
Great atmosphere and decent food, but not super. The chef is incredible, and would love him to be able to bring new things to the menu.
Great atmosphere, food, drinks, and music. We highly recommend.
We enjoyed our date night at the Charleston and were very pleased that we had Laura as our server. This is the second time we were fortunate to be in Laura's section and she made our experience lovely by being engaging, attentive and delightful! The food was delicious from our favorite appetizer (Artichoke Souffle) to the perfectly prepared and tasty entree's (Beef Bourguignon & Gaucho Steak) to the desserts we took to enjoy later in the evening. The Charleston Draper is one of our favorite restaurants and we have never been disappointed. We were delighted with the outdoor seating under the tent as the night was mild and the setting with the fountain and numerous plants made it an enjoyable atmosphere. We hope to return soon.
Food was exquisite. All the ingredients were fresh and the taste was amazing. The chef took great care with his dishes. Will definitely be coming back. Looking forward to trying their brunch.
Beautiful chill vibe. Loved the live piano music. Food was wonderful. Can’t wait to visit in the summer for the patio dinning.
Poor service. Won’t keep me from going back, but damn.
We had a very nice time here. It was nicely decorated and the ambiance was perfect for.our date night. The food was cooked to perfection. Our service was top notch.
Natalie (I think) was great.
Ambience was delightful.
Steak was tough.
Ratatouille was unremarkable
Souffle and Brie were crazy good
Serving of courses was out of synch. Didn't finish one course before next course was being served.
All in all for 2 people with no alcohol and final bill before tip around $180 = "Fair" rating.
This is the third time I’ve visited The Charleston. While I can’t really complain about the food, I can certainly warn people on the staff behavior. I make it a point to be understanding of the hectic nature of Saturday’s in a restaurant. It’s why I make reservations and expect to spend some time waiting for quality food. Our server this last visit was not only unprofessional but condescending and pathetic. After over 45 minutes with no food and a good thirty minutes of dry glasses our server came by to let us know our food was on the way. I asked bluntly what was taking so long, it was nearly 9pm and we’d been there since 7:45. He laughed at us and said “the stairs really hold things up”.
Obviously at this point he had forgotten to put our order in and wasn’t even grown up enough to admit to the fault and work on it. The response then was to disappear another 15 minutes. Finally we snagged another server and asked for her to help us get our order or we would like to leave. Miraculously food showed up, however, not our waiter ever again. He continued to serve through our room and made a point to not even make eye contact with us. We ended up having dinner rather quickly after that and the manager comped us what had to have been a 3 day old stale tart for our “troubles”.
I want to make something very clear. We ordered ceviche, a salad and the lobster Mac. All of which should never have taken over an hour to produce. I’ve worked in a restaurant and I am pretty understanding of mistakes but this guy clearly forgot. What’s even more disgusting is the plan for correction was to treat us like we were in the wrong for asking what’s going on.
Lastly, we weren’t the only ones. I overheard another table saying this was enough of the bad service that they were taking this place off their list as well... they were just nicer than I am and left unhappily in silence. The food is not worth the attitude
