Baxter was an excellent waiter. The food and ambiance were outstanding. Reasonably priced.
We were so excited about trying this restaurant for the first time. Got there and the hostess was lovely and great. Then it went downhill. Ordered a bottle of wine and it took 35 minutes to get it. Ordered an cheese tray it came out 20 minutes later, it was good but only 10 minutes before our entree. I ordered a filet, with sauce on the side. It came out with the sauce on it. I sent it back and they brought it back 1 minute later. It had to have been wiped off and brought back out and it was cold at that point. We could not wait to get out of there. BTW our table faced the kitchen... I saw what they did with my steak. The waiter was not attentive at all .
With a few exceptions, I was very disappointed in the food at the Chalkboard. The flat bread appetizer was very good—light and tasty. The scallops were excellent—some of the best I have ever had. However, the mushroom ravioli, to include the broth, was bland and tasteless. And the rest of the seafood boil was terrible—the corn tasted like cooked harvest corn it was so tough, and the shrimp and in the shell clams were terribly over cooked. The waiter was excellent but the food was terribly overpriced for such poor execution.
Love the Chalkboard! Been there quite often for dinner, and I loved he Brunch just as much!! Will definitely be back!
Backstory: I proposed to my wife at the Chalkboard nearly 17 years ago. We've been away from Tulsa for the past 15 years and just returned this summer, so I took her back to the Chalkboard for our anniversary. We had a great dinner! They sat us in the same spot in the wine cellar where I proposed many years earlier, offered us complimentary champaign and dessert, and our server, Kevin, timed our meal perfectly - especially considering we had to make a show at the PAC. Food was excellent - I had the pork chop that was one of the menu specials for the evening, and my wife had the Mushroom Wellington. And as icing on the cake (and much to our surprise), the restaurant carries one of my wife's favorite (and very hard to find) cabernets - we bought what turned out to be the last bottle they had on hand. It was a pretty magical evening, all the way around.
Love this restaurant. Always incredible food and service. Highly recommend.
I have been to Chalkboard before with very good experiences but this one was not it. The service was poor and the waitress wasn't very friendly. It took 10 minutes to just get water on the table. Food was not the quality that I had experienced there before. My hope was that it was just a bad day.
Food was bland for restaurant week. Waitress was MIA for 20 minutes at a time
The waiter ( Kevin) was attentive, but not oppressive . The food was delivered in a timely manner and excellent. The desert, a deconstructed chocolate dish was to "die" for...most excellent
Nice place. Were there for a special occasion. Hated the table - it looked into the kitchen - not what we expected for the occasion. Food was very good. Had a snafu with a special order dessert. Told restaurant (twice) it was being delivered and it was for our special meal. Then when it came to that part of the evening, they brought out their standard dessert with candle. Had to spoil the surprise by explaining to the server that there was a cake delivered for the occasion. Then they had to go find it. 🙄 Did end the evening sitting in the bar where we met a nice couple from our same city.
We really enjoyed our evening at the Chalkboard. The environment was comfortable and the service was great. The server was respectful that my friend and I wanted to catch up. Dinner was excellent - we split a salad (mixed greens) and then I had the crab cakes as my entree.
Love this place because the food is so flavorful, inventive but not weird! Such good service.
Went for brunch this time. It was our second experience at the Chalkboard and unfortunately the service both times was lackluster. There was very little engagement with the wait staff throughout our meal. We will not likely give them another chance. The food was good, however.
Service was top notch and food was amazing. Will definitely stop back in out next trip to town. Amazing birthday dinner
As always, the Chalkboard is a great dining experience!
Always consistent. Excellent service and quality
It’s not easy finding restaurants that serve beef Wellington in OKC and Tulsa and this was the sole reason we selected The Chalkboard. Unfortunately our experience was not ideal. Beginning with the inadequate description of the specials by the waiter and ending with a disappointing $120 meal. The waiter started by saying that the vegetable soup is “pretty good”, said we have seared halibut but didn’t mention sides nor market price and really pushed the seafood boil. Next we ordered the Caesar salad. Fresh romaine but the anchovy taste was off putting....I get that the dressing has anchovy flavor and have ate a ton of these salads in my time but this was like bad fish oil. A piece of garlic (inedible -as you know) tossed on the romaine hearts, and an anchovy filet. My date took a bite and pushed it away. Waiter didn’t ask why it was virtually untouched. I ordered the beef Wellington medium rare. Puff pastry was undercooked and doughy. Sauce was wicked salty, mashed potatoes were delicious but cold and asparagus was kindergarten pencil size. Couldn’t eat more than the tips because it was so tough. My date had ribeye and it was cooked and seasoned well. Same situation with his potatoes and asparagus. Waiter asked if I wanted a second glass of wine and needed a reminder to bring it...with only 4 small tables occupied. Some tables were served bread and even though our table was set with bread plates we received none. Unfortunately this was a one and done. They have some improvements to make for sure. So bummed about the Wellington and the experience .
Disappointed with table given we had a reservation and it wasn’t crowded. Didn’t realize when seated, but we heard and saw all kitchen activity. Food was fine but felt we were there for Chalkboard Staff convenience as opposed to ours.
What a find. Definitely coming back. Loved the wine country creations and flavors.
Salmon and steak tartare was outstanding. All seafood was very delicious. Service was very attentive.
My wife had the Mushroom Wellington, I had the prime filet. She loved hers and mine was ordered rare and it was served rare! Perfect! Kevin was our waiter and he was perfect!
We were taken good care of and even helped with a birthday surprise.
For the price there is far better quality available in other places in Tulsa. The last two times I've been to the Chalkboard I've been pretty disappointed in the food. Service, location, décor were all great. Because of the quality/value disconnect, this may be my last visit. :-(
Excellent food. Special dessert was a blueberry and lavender crepe brûlée and was one of the best things I have ever tasted!!!
My wife and I celebrated our one year anniversary at The Chalkboard. Everything was excellent. Our server, Matt took exceptional care of us, giving great attention to detail. Our food was also exceptional. We won’t wait for another anniversary to come around to go back again!
We had an amazing lunch and dinner at the Chalkboard. We arrived earlier than we expected and stopped by the hotel to drop our bags off. We had dinner reservations at the Chalkboard and really did not want to have lunch there as well. It was so HOT, we decided to stay in and have lunch there.
I ordered Ahi Tuna Tacos for lunch and they were over-the-top fantastic. My husband enjoyed his Turkey Rueben. We really liked the low sound levels in the restaurant.
We both had lamb chops for dinner with the foie gras as an appetizer. We ordered the the appetizer after watching our very reluctant table neighbor, who was scared to try it, after she said it was delicious. Our server even agreed to substitute mashed potatoes for the the mushy peas that came with the lamb without flinching. The lamb was excellent.
It was a bit louder at dinner time but much quieter than anywhere else we’ve been in a long time.
Impeccable ambience, food and service. Could NOT have been better!
The cheeseboard was amazing, the tuna market offering was a healthy filet prepared with local au jous - very delicious.
It was overpriced for what we had. Very Small
Servings and perfectly good but not over the top. 6 of us agreed to this review. Lamb chops way too fatty. Crab cakes good
This was the first time to this restaurant and we went for our anniversary. It was wonderful, both of our dishes were excellent. I have never tried beef Wellington before and this is one of their main dishes, and the tomato jam was fantastic. It was so good, we will definitely come back again.
We really enjoyed it and our server was more than helpful!
Typical hotel breakfast
Server was poor. My old fashion came 5 different ways from the bar. Every time the drink was different.
Fresh lobster: cooked to rubber.
It was our anniversary, but we love the Chalkboard for all occasions, Sunday brunch, group get togethers, etc. The food is always "top notch", we had an excellent experience, great food, low noise, attentive gracious waiter, free champagne for our anniversary!
My wife had beef wellington and I had sea scallops. The quality of the food is some of the best I ever had. The restaurant provided transportation to Tulsa's BOK center, which was a great plus for us.
Mother loved the Beef Wellington, the lobster tail was HUGE and cooked perfectly, and the filet was delicious with the squash puree. We just ate there and can't wait to go back. It was absolutely worth the hefty price tag, but only go if you have a pretty penny to spare.
We had a wonderful dinner, as always... We choose this a special place for us....
We've eaten at Chalkboard many times. After tonight, however, it is unlikely we will return. When my husband asked what vintage the wine was, the waiter smirked "I couldn't tell ya." When we asked for the dessert wine list to order a Sauternes to go with the fois, it was ignored. I flagged down someone else, got the menu, ordered the Sauternes but they brought a Port! We pointed it out and someone came over to tell us that a. they are out of the Sauternes and b. they poured the Port by mistake. Really? Two mishaps? Odd. When I ordered my Prime Rib the waiter said "how do you want it cooked?" My reply: "What does the chef recommend?" He said "Mid." I asked what that meant and he said "there will be a lot of red." I asked "so rare?" He said "No, mid." What the heck did that mean?? So I asked again "will it be medium rare, rare or medium. You are confusing me. I've never heard of a steak cooked mid." The waiter got cocky and said "mid, medium, moderate, you know." Ugh. I said to just cook it as the chef recommends. The whipped potatoes were dense and a smashed potato...not whipped at all. The food was fine, but not special. When the bill came, the real mess started. There was the Sauternes on the bill. We discussed leaving just a 15% tip but we dropped it to zero when the waiter and manager (not sure it was really a manager...dressed in a t-shirt) both started to mouth off at us. The waiter followed us into the hotel lobby to keep being belligerent. The young man who waited on us needs to learn how to respect the customer.
It was our 28th wedding anniversary and the waiter was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and made us feel like we were regulars when this was our first time. My wife and I had a wonderful time and was treated with a visit from Chef Roque as his brussel sprouts were amazing! It was and still remains a wonderful experience and memory. We have suggested the chalkboard to many of our friends. We will return again for a delightful experience.
This place is excellent. Always a great meal with the best service and really enjoy the unique menu items!
