We had a great dinner with friends after an NU football game. The only table that we could get for 5 people was a high top which is not our favorite. However the room was attractive and cozy and, unlike the name, not in a cellar. It was quiet enough that we could converse easily.
The food was very tasty but they sent it out "tapas style" - when each dish is ready. It doesn't really seem like a tapas restaurant as there were not a lot of shareable dishes. We all had our own meals, so it meant some were eating dinner while others were waiting. Drinks were good with an outstanding cosmo!
Been there before and always so good. Not great this time, not sure why. Fried chicken special sounded great except when it ended up coming with 2 legs and 2 thighs. Weird. Should have told us that. Truffle fries some of the best though ever.
Oh yea, they had a happy hour special of $4 wine. Undrinkable. It was so bad it’s regular price should be $4. Better to have 1/2 off all glasses from 5-6pm.
We will go back, everyone gets one miss
A total disappointment! Hadn't been there for quite some time and apparently it has new ownership. Limited basic menu, which is fine, but the food was below standard. The truffle fries were soggy, couldn't even dip them in the aoli. Ordered fish and chips, it arrives as fish sticks with a very heavy breading and a strange taste of the fish. The fries were waffle fries, much prefer regular fries with fish.
Really missed the former menu with Butter Flight, Truffle Mac 'n Cheese, Mini Sliders and much more. It is no longer a fun get together place to order great food and share plates and good times.
The food was good but, though friendly, the servers kept trying to take our plates hile we were still eating. This happened several times. The experience left a bad taste in our mouths.
Staff were awesome.
Went to the Cellar for the first time for date night. We started with wine which was a good selection. The California Chardonnay was great ! The Barrata is a must and the honey comb makes it ! My husband had the Tuna Poke and really liked it and thought it was a great portion. I had the Micro Burger which I liked the idea of being able to control how much burger I had. Great meal and great service
Good place with a limited menu, but delicious food.
My friend and I split am extra lobster lobster roll. It was a lot of lobster and very tasty on a true toasted New England bun. We split the "dessert" fresh fruit and artisan cheese tray. Just had fresh lemon in our water for drinks. With 20% tip, was $30 each. Very gourmet, excellent service. We really could have been well satisfied with the regular lobster roll instead of the double, and save $5 each.
Cons: no cushions on wood chairs and where was everyone on this Thurs eve after 7:30?
There's nothing bad on the menu, but I highly recommend the lobster roll. You can split it and double the lobster meat for an upcharge which we find perfect - double the lobster and half the bread! Truffle fries should not be missed.
Food was creative and delicious. Great selection of wines and beers. I had a locally brewed porter that was incredibly good.
Service was excellent. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The food was prepared well and it was an enjoyable evening.
We love The Cellar and will return even more now that they have added Happy Hour deals!
Very nice “small plates” dining environment. Delicious food, kind and prompt service and nice small room atmosphere. A little noisy, but not bad.
A nice restaurant for a meal with friends!
Excellent food and services! Thank you!!
The food quality has declined and the music was so loud it was difficult to hold a conversation even though the place was not full.
Sunday brunch. Food was very good. We were there just before closing and the staff was very accommodating. Definitely will come back.
Fantastic experience & wonderful food & excellent service!
Black sheep was great but the fries need improvement.
Good food. Zimitriou is a great server, as always. I enjoyed the lamb chops, and every one seemed happy with scampi and salmon.
Food was good not great. Service was lacking and not attentive
Service was unusually slow. Had to wait 15 minutes to get my drink.
Casual spot to have a meal with friends. If you order a hamburger, ask ahead of time about the crusty, cheesy topping that will be over the top, so that you can decide whether you want that on your burger.
The food was very bland unlike other times we had been there.
Service was rushed. They came 3 times to remove our plates/glasses before we were done. They brought the check before we asked.
We were there a little over an hour, the place was not full )it was a Tuesday early evening).
As always, the food and service at The Cellar was excellent. Our only disappointment was that when we made the reservation, we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and we indicated that we were celebrating a birthday, however, the restaurant never acknowledged that. In the past, they have provided a birthday dessert and candle when we have indicated in making our reservation that we were celebrating special event.
We were very early to be sure we made it to an early movie. Although the food was very tasty, neither the squash soup nor the Bison burger were hot. I didn’t return the burger as I was afraid it would end up well done. Would give it another chance.
The venue and food are fantastic. Service is also top notch!
Few menu choices but everything we ordered was outstanding! The waitstaff was wonderful - made for a very pleasant dinner experience! The Brussel Spout Flatbread was to die for - we ordered two helpings 😍 and I loved the shrimp scampi. So unique and tasty! And could not go wrong with the dessert sampler.
Excellent food, casual atmosphere, highly recommended.
We were a party of four. One of us got our entree while the other three waited another 8-10 minutes. We asked wait person and were told food comes out as ready. Why does a lamb burger take this much longer than lamb chops? Impacted our enjoyment of dinner.
Menu items you won’t find anywhere else. Can be a bit noisy, but good vibes all around!
Limited menu but very good food. Friendly staff. Nice place
Haven't been here for a while but it's still a very fine experience.
Service was great, staff was friendly, and food was delicious (skip the fish tacos!) We'll be back!
The Cellar is delightful! Top-notch food for reasonable prices, and a lovely, intimate atmosphere.
Used to love this restaurant. A little disappointed that the menu has become so Pub-centric. The vegetarian offerings are unimaginative. The servers kept trying to hurry us along by trying to take our plates before we were finished eating.
We love going to The Cellar. We went with our israeli friends who had just flown into O’Hare. The food comes out of the kitchen which was perfect since they were starving!
Main problem is the restaurant's insistence on an announced policy of bringing out dishes sporadically throughout our stay. There were 4 of us and there were several times when one or two of us had nothing to eat, for long periods of time, while others received their food. The worst was when our entrees came; one person in our party did not receive their entrée until 10 minutes or more after everyone else received theirs. Makes no sense to me. Seems like this is just an excuse for the kitchen staff to make their work easier and not work hard to time food preparation.
