Good food. Zimitriou is a great server, as always. I enjoyed the lamb chops, and every one seemed happy with scampi and salmon.
Food was good not great. Service was lacking and not attentive
Service was unusually slow. Had to wait 15 minutes to get my drink.
Casual spot to have a meal with friends. If you order a hamburger, ask ahead of time about the crusty, cheesy topping that will be over the top, so that you can decide whether you want that on your burger.
The food was very bland unlike other times we had been there.
Service was rushed. They came 3 times to remove our plates/glasses before we were done. They brought the check before we asked.
We were there a little over an hour, the place was not full )it was a Tuesday early evening).
As always, the food and service at The Cellar was excellent. Our only disappointment was that when we made the reservation, we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and we indicated that we were celebrating a birthday, however, the restaurant never acknowledged that. In the past, they have provided a birthday dessert and candle when we have indicated in making our reservation that we were celebrating special event.
We were very early to be sure we made it to an early movie. Although the food was very tasty, neither the squash soup nor the Bison burger were hot. I didn’t return the burger as I was afraid it would end up well done. Would give it another chance.
The venue and food are fantastic. Service is also top notch!
Few menu choices but everything we ordered was outstanding! The waitstaff was wonderful - made for a very pleasant dinner experience! The Brussel Spout Flatbread was to die for - we ordered two helpings 😍 and I loved the shrimp scampi. So unique and tasty! And could not go wrong with the dessert sampler.
Excellent food, casual atmosphere, highly recommended.
We were a party of four. One of us got our entree while the other three waited another 8-10 minutes. We asked wait person and were told food comes out as ready. Why does a lamb burger take this much longer than lamb chops? Impacted our enjoyment of dinner.
Menu items you won’t find anywhere else. Can be a bit noisy, but good vibes all around!
Limited menu but very good food. Friendly staff. Nice place
Haven't been here for a while but it's still a very fine experience.
Service was great, staff was friendly, and food was delicious (skip the fish tacos!) We'll be back!
The Cellar is delightful! Top-notch food for reasonable prices, and a lovely, intimate atmosphere.
Used to love this restaurant. A little disappointed that the menu has become so Pub-centric. The vegetarian offerings are unimaginative. The servers kept trying to hurry us along by trying to take our plates before we were finished eating.
We love going to The Cellar. We went with our israeli friends who had just flown into O’Hare. The food comes out of the kitchen which was perfect since they were starving!
Main problem is the restaurant's insistence on an announced policy of bringing out dishes sporadically throughout our stay. There were 4 of us and there were several times when one or two of us had nothing to eat, for long periods of time, while others received their food. The worst was when our entrees came; one person in our party did not receive their entrée until 10 minutes or more after everyone else received theirs. Makes no sense to me. Seems like this is just an excuse for the kitchen staff to make their work easier and not work hard to time food preparation.
This place is more of a bar then restaurant. The menu is small, and consists of small plates. The portions are decent, bigger than standard appetizer size.
We really enjoyed bacon wrapped dates. Swordfish tacos lacked flavor, and arugula salad was nothing special.
Overall, it was a good experience. The place is best suited for dinner with one or 2 people. Not good for groups or special occasions.
The Cellar was a great change of pace for brunch. The design is lovely and intimate, and the food was fabulous - most creative brunch dishes ever. I can't wait to try Stained Glass for dinner, based on this excellent experience.
This has been out go to place about once a month and I’d say the first time we were disappointed. It was a Sunday, we were the only table at 6pm and the food tasted like it was leftover from Saturday. Not my favorite server either, although he brought everything we ordered, just a little to friendly (that’s usually a good thing) and not sure how to explain it, kind of weird. Oh well, we’ll be back, hope it keeps meeting our usual expectations
Not the best service experience we've had here, but it was a busy Saturday night. Regardless, decent food with many options, and a good value for the neighborhood.
Super delicious food and drinks in a pub atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Great place to order a bunch of food and catch up with your friends.
Cellar was site of our first date, and we enjoyed celebrating Valentine’s Day there. Great food and friendly attentive staff!
Food was wonderful. Our waitress did completely forget to place our order, so the tables who had arrived after us all got their food 15 minutes or so before we did. Still will return though.
The Cellar is a favorite spot both for planned meals/snacks as well as spontaneous drop ins. Any crave will be satisfied for certain, so go!
We love going to the Cellar when we’re doing something special at Northwestern
Usually, I love eating at The Cellar, however, the food was only mediocre in my most recent visit. The only think that I really thought was great was the Strawberry and Goat Cheese salad. The Tuna Poke was OK, but there is fast food poke in town that is better. I expected the Buffalo Chicken strips to be something elevated, but they were just buffalo chicken strips. I love the creativity of the "Brat Stickers," but ultimately, I didn't think that they tasted very good, and they were quite awkward to eat. Finally, I did really enjoy the Chocolate Tart--at least we ended on a high note.
We have always loved the food at the Cellar. This visit our salad was underdressed or undressed, the chicken tenders arrived cool and the table next to us was loud loud loud so we could not enjoy our table and this was not the fault of the restaurant but it contributed to an average only experience.
This is the second time in two weeks that I have been to The Cellar. Great service both times, had the burrata both times as I liked it so much the first time. Strawberry salad first visit was good, but trying not to be a repeat offender branched out to swordfish tacos, no disappointment. Other items tried, lobster bisque, caesar salad, green beans (spicy) . I look forward to working my way through the menu.
Always enjoy dining at the Cellar. Management and staff are very attentive and food is brought out prompt. Kitchen is very good in delivering quality food.
Great place to connect with friends
Excellent food and service. Background music too loud.
Great dinner. We only had about 50 minutes to eat and be on our way so we didn't do the appetizer and after dinner drinks route. We quickly ordered the sliders and lobster bisque. Delish.
The Cellar is consitently very good! The Tapas menu gives lots of choices to have individually or share.
Honestly the food was atrocious. We got a few courses starting with a cheese plate. The cheese was bland and flavorless the best thing on the board was grapes and apple slices. The next course was tuna poke and it just tasted like soy sauce, very over dressed and otherwise flavorless. We got a side of green beans which were undercooked and over spiced. We finished our meal with swordfish tacos which we each took one bite of and were done. The service was not good either our waiter was never around and the only one really attending to us was the host and bus boy who were both very kind. This was not a busy evening either. I will not be returning here, I am very surprised this establishment has such good reviews.
As usual, food and cocktails were fabulous but the service was sub par. Our waiter was slow on noticing our drinks needed refreshing. Besides that, the same old usual Cellar, which is a good thing! Love their variety of small plates and the bartender always makes great drinks.
